Beginning Latin in 7th grade. Program?

I want to add Latin into our curriculum next year but I have NO knowledge of Latin! My son will be in 7th grade and he wants to do a couple of years of Latin and then do Spanish in high school. I'm looking for a program that we can do at our own pace, a few times a week. I've been looking at Lively Latin and I've also seen something like The Great Latin Adventure? Are either of these suitable for beginning latin at that age? Are there other programs that you have used that you love?

I'm starting late too. My daughter will be in 8th grade when we start next year. (We've been playing catch up for two years due to her spotty public elementary school education.)

I did some research and hit upon Cambridge Latin, but I'm very interested in what more experienced parents have to say.

My son will be in 7th as well. We do have a smidgen of Latin knowledge from our several starts, stops and Latin curriculum failures. :glare: I have The Great Latin Adventure (GLA) in my greedy little hands and it looks like I finally found something that will not only teach my son, but me as well. If we can't do this program without hitting a brick wall, then I will just give up on Latin completely.

I personally would not use Lively Latin (LL). It's just, well, too young for a 7th grader in my opinion. Not the content so much as the appearance. There is nothing young looking about GLA though. It looks perfect.

I think Latin Prep would be better for a 7th grader. I'm using Lively Latin with my 5th grader (started it last year in 4th), and it would be okay for a 7th grader, but I think LP would be a little more age appropriate. I'm using it with my 7th grader.

There was a similar question asked a couple of days ago - starting with a 6th grader with no previous experience. I haven't read all the responses, but it may be helpful.

Prepare yourself for myriad responses!

I suggest you really, really look over all suggestions and find something that looks like you can comprehend and teach, regardless of age level. Each of us are different, and what is perfect for one teacher/child can be a disaster, and a complete waste of time and money, for another.

Happy shopping! :D
