Rhonda in WA
My husband has been working in a little town in Colorado. My girls and I drove out from WA to stay the month of May with him. We are in the little town of Leadville. It is a very cute town. But I am wondering if anyone has some good ideas for me about field trips. We brought school with us while we are here. I also want to take the girls on some little outings. Any ideas would be great. Thanks
chai
I don't know much about Leadville, but three other towns that have some fun things to do are Glenwood Springs : There are some caves here that I've wanted to visit. Idaho Springs : The Phoenix Mine tour is nice. It is too early in the season to drive to the top of Mount Evans, but the road should open soon. dhudson
Well, since we are doing a Research project on CO right now here's a few. Fairplay - South Park City - a replica of a mining town, has 20 + buildings. Denver - The Zoo, The Denver Mint, The Denver Museum of Nature and Science, The Aquarium Georgetown - The Georgetown Loop Railroad (they also have a tour in a real silver mine) Colorado Springs, Focus on the Family, Pikes Peak, The Pioneer Museum, Seven Falls, Teh Cave of the Winds Canon City - The Royal Gorge Durango - The Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Mesa Verde is about 45 min from Durango. (Just got back from Durango and it was amazing!) Glenwood Hot springs - The World's Largest Hot Springs Pool La Junta - Bent's Old Fort One of the best books for ideas is, "Fun with the Family Colorado" by Doris Kennedy. Hope you have a great time! Rhonda in WA
Thank you very much for all the ideas. I am looking into all of them. On a side note-We took our girls to a dinosaur museum in Woodland Park, CO. It was amazing. We were able to touch real T-rex fossils and lots of other dino fossils. You guys should check it out. We took the tour there and it was so worth it. Now my girls love dinosaurs and want to learn all about them. Thanks again ladies.
Rhonda in WA
I don't know why I didn't think of the Air Force Academy! You can't go into the cadet areas, but the chapel is not to be missed. Ok I will have to look into that also. Never would have thought of an Air Force Academy.
