  1. My dd took Expository Writing 1 from WTMA this past year. It was a great experience! During the summer I am planning for her to review & rewrite papers based on her new understanding and teacher comments. She is ok with this plan. I am wondering if this plan might lead to burnout when she starts Expository Writing 2 in the fall. Any advice?
  2. We are doing WWS 1 and Week 30 uses the topoi writing about a scientific/natural process. Sequence:natural process I guess is the official topoi name. The topic for this week is digestion. This child just really doesn't want to spend time reading/writing about this topic and has requested a different topic and is willing to do some of the research for a different topic. I think I need a nap(or the end of the school year), because I can't think of another natural process except for the water cycle and nitrogen cycle. Could you share any that come to your mind or share a link to a list? Every internet search I have tried is bringing up other things. Thank you, Kendall
  3. Hi all, I know there are many people here who have done WWS 1 so I hope I can get some advice. Ruth in NZ I know you have a lot of information on this. DS is 12 in 7th grade. He is naturally a very creative writer & often writes for pure enjoyment. DS has had no previous writing courses. DS is doing WWS 1 this year and he is continually muffing it up. We are on week 10 and he has to constantly redo the work because he didn't follow the directions correctly. He is failing to make the connections of how this will make him a better writer. I know he is dreading each day but he doesn't say much because he is compliant. I feel like this is killing his love of writing. Additionally on the brief outside writing assignments I five him it seems to have made no difference his writing is still very juvenile. So the question is ; was this a good place to start with a kid who loves creative writing? Would he be better off doing an IEW or even the 6 writing traits book from Evan Moore? I want to improve his expository writing skills. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks. Jean
  4. did your student complete Part 5: Research wks 27-31? (i can not find any threads/discussion about this portion of WWS1 when I type in a search) if your student did navigate through this part of WWS1: how did you approach this portion of the course? did you change anything, as in customising it to suit your student? or did you all just ended up skipping it? :) and if you did skip it... did you use anything else in it's place? adding we're working towards completing this first text with our 13yr old - so he's not a younger student that perhaps (?) the work required would be too tedious for him. appreciate any insight into how others did (or why they did not do) this portion of wws1. (eta: please excuse the lower case post - i'm currently only able to type one handed.)
  5. I plan on having my oldest start WWS1 this summer. In anticipation, I was wondering if anyone had already compiled the learnings that others have had about the different lessons -- which ones need some clarifications (like the Rikki Tikki Tavi Lit Analysis one) and which ones are likely to take a little longer. I know some of the insights are in the master WWS thread & some are on the Writing sub-board. One document or thread that we could refer to would be *great* for those who are starting WWS (or in the middle of it). Has anyone already done this or should I add it to my list "To Do Before Summer"? TIA!
