Do you recommend AOPS or Teaching Textbooks for Algebra I? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each? We are currently using AOPS for Prealgebra and love it. I am strong in math and don't mind teaching it. A friend of mine loves Teaching Textbooks, so I was curious about how it compares with AOPS.
For the past few years, I've used either Horizons or Singapore as our math curriculum. Not quite happy with either has caused me to research other options. I keep coming back to TT. I was wondering, though, since TT does not start until grade 3, what you used prior to it? My children are 9 & 7. I haven't had either take the placement tests yet, I'm just going off of what I see in the table of contents, and I'm not sure if my son who just finished up Singapore 1, would be ready for TT 3. So, I'm just trying to get some other options to look into.
Dd will be in 10th next school year and possibly taking Geometry at co-op. They use Teaching Textbooks. This year dd has been thriving with Alg 1 using Tablet Class. I'm wondering if we should just stay the course with TC or let her take TT with local teacher once a week?! Can anyone give me their thoughts on TT or TC's Geometry? Pros, cons,...... Btw, she says she doesn't like Geometry. Thanks🙂
Talk to me about using Teaching Textbooks or Saxon Math (instead of Aops or some other mathy curricula) if you have mathy kids. I was about to buy Aops algebra and realized that some people stick to curricula like TT and Saxon for their very capable math students. Why? What do you like about it?
