  3. I'm a long-time user of TOG. We've used it since my oldest was in 1st grade, and he's now in the 7th. Each year, I've looked for something different, mostly out of my not wanting to plan so much and partially because of Grass is Greener Syndrome. With a new baby in the mix, I really don't have the time to plan to the degree I need to in order to make Tapestry successful for us. Don't get me wrong - I do love many parts of Tapestry. I'm just not sure it's a good fit for us this year. We're about 5 weeks into our new homeschool year, and I'm drowning quite a bit with planning. Actually, I'm drowning a lot if truth be told. Can you help me find other curricula that might be a good fit? Here are some details: -- My kiddos are 7th, 5th, 3rd, and 1st (and the baby) -- I love the rigor of TOG and would like something on the same academic level, especially as we are in D level with my oldest and UG/D with my 5th grader. This is my wish list: -- Living books as much as possible, though I'm not opposed to the occasional text -- Rigorous books selections for my D and UG/D students - not fluffy below grade reading assignments -- Assignments laid out for me -- Incorporates history, literature, art, music -- All kiddos on the same period of history at the same time -- Classically-based (we're finishing up the Renaissance/Reformation time period and want to move to the next topics chronologically) -- Biblically based Any suggestions on what I might look at? I wish we could all do SOTW (we would be entering book 3), but I don't feel like that's enough meat for my oldest, even if I supplement. He's a very bright, eager learner. I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thank you! -Lauren
  4. This will probably be all over the place because I am about to have a nervous breakdown. We have been all over the place between Wayfarers, Biblioplan, and TOG, and it is making me a crazy person. I must decide what history curriculum to use and stick with it. I am down to choosing between TOG and Biblioplan for good. I have used TOG (LG) for a unit. I LOVE the "excellence" of it...however... reading the teachers notes isn't happening, and I am not sure it ever will. It seems like the teachers notes are what ties it all together, so this is a problem. I keep telling myself I will make the planning and reading the notes happen. But, I am not sure I want to commit to that for the next twenty years. And without the teacher notes, the reading list seems somewhat random. As for Biblioplan, I am worried that it is not as in depth for high school as I would hope. Somehow the idea of everyone using the same textbook, and the younger kids just not reading as far seems fairly shallow to me. Is this accurate? Is TOG head and shoulders more advanced than Biblio? In all honesty, I want the depth of TOG with the ease and time commitment of Biblioplan. I think my crisis is actually deeper than just this. I am torn between wanting absolute academic excellence, and wanting time for learning more practical skills and just being a kid. I don't want their entire childhood to be a pursuit of history knowledge...but I want them to have an excellent foundation. I would go with Biblioplan in a second if I thought that the highschool level was deep enough. But I'm afraid maybe it isn't. Any wisdom out there on which to go with?? Thanks.

Hello - would someone happen to be using Tapestry of Grace Year 2 and be able to send me a picture or scan of Week 13 reading list - the yellow page on the left with the reading assignments on it?   6. I have used a year of TOG at the rhetoric level with my older dd, and I am looking at Y3 for next year - 7th grade- for my younger. I really like the looks of the books for history and literature, although I will probably have her read the full versions of the classics that they use abridged version. Please give me your opinions of the dialectic level. thanks Carolyn
  7. I'm needing advice. We are really needing to get this decision made for several reasons. However, I am going back and forth terribly! We really like TOG, but I am worried about the work load for once we get to high school. Does anyone know around how many hours a day on average a child would spend on the rhetoric level with TOG (specifically for non honors credits)? I lean Charlotte Mason, and the idea of nonstop hours and hours of intense work at the rhetoric level is really intimidating me. But, I am not sure TOG has to be that intense. I'm wondering if we did just the basic credits in high school maybe it wouldn't be so much.....? Biblioplan scares me because it seems like maybe it isn't meaty enough for rhetoric. And while I don't want to consume my children with academics, I do want to provide them a really strong base. I guess I am wanting the best of both worlds, the lesser time commitment of Biblio, with the academic excellence of TOG. And, we tried Wayfarers, and it wasn't a fit :( Any advice?? I'm going crazy with this.
  8. I have heard over and over again how TOG is a buffet. I watched the planning video, and I get that no one should do it "all" but I am still not exactly understanding what that exactly means. Okay, there is the "primary resources" and then there is the "alternate or extra resources"....so is the idea that you will for sure do all of the "primary resources" and then only pick the "extra resources" that you choose? Or, when they say it is a buffet, are they including the primary resources in that list of stuff you can choose to do or not do? In other words, when planning is everything on the table for being cut, or only the extra resources? I hope that makes sense. We are in the process (AGAIN) of choosing between TOG and Biblioplan, and I am STRESSING. I want TOG, but I want it to be lighter. I know Biblioplan is lighter, but it seems too light for highschool. So, basically TOG is too much and Biblio too light. ACK! Thanks for any help!
  9. Hi there! I am deliberating between TOG Yr 2 and SOTW Vol 2 next year for my upcoming 2nd grader and kindergartener. We have used TOG Year 1 this year, but with SOTW Vol 1 as the spine. The kids have really enjoyed and retained a lot from the hands-on projects, but of all the reading we've done, SOTW has definitely been the most enjoyable. I already have TOG Year 2, and I'm looking through it and noticing both that SOTW 2 doesn't seem to be scheduled much (which is disappointing) but also noticing that the 2nd-year scope of the curricula seem very different. I'm trying to decide which to use for next year - TOG year 2 or SOTW Vol 2? Here are some considerations.... 1. I definitely want to use TOG at the higher grades, and planned to use it for this first cycle so I myself could get used to the planning. However... 2. SOTW is simpler, and my kids have definitely liked it. Simpler is starting to sound more appealing, at this stage where I have one barely independent reader and most subjects are still being done orally with both kids, which is a lot of hands-on investment of my time with each kid each day. (We're also using RightStart math, which I LOVE, but which is time-intensive.) More planning might be easier when we've hit the point where I can hand off assignments and check in, instead of hovering over shoulders all day. (Is it real that there will be a day when I can hand off assignments and check in? That seems like a fairy tale. But I digress.) With SOTW, I can incorporate some hands-on projects from the activity guide, and bam - history's done, versus more planning and more book juggling with TOG. For 2nd grade, it might just be easier to do what's...easy. 3. Can anyone speak to the differing scopes of the two curricula? TOG 2 seems like it's a lot of Church history, and it ZIPS through the Middle Ages awfully fast. It goes all the way from the fall of Rome to the Constitution, and to me, that seems like a lot to cover in one year. It almost seems like, at my kids' ages, more time on the Middle Ages and Renaissance might be preferable to a lot of Church history, which they might not really appreciate until they're a bit older? Or am I wrong about the TOG scope? Have you who've used it found that TOG Year 2 works well for the younger ages? Will we be missing something if we go with SOTW? 4. Finally, because of the difference in scope, it seems that whatever I use this year, I'll need to use next year as well. So the decision feels big...although I'm starting to learn the homeschooling lesson that consistency means more than having the "perfect" curriculum. Sorry for all of my rambling, and thank you very much for your thoughts! :)

  11. Quick Background: I've been homeschooling for 15+ years, and I've burned out. Actually, I've probably been burned out for several years, because we've gone from TOG, to unschooling to basically no schooling. *sigh* It doesn't help that I have a very strong willed 10yr that turns everything school related into a battle if it isn't "fun." I've been seriously considering putting DS in public school just so that he gets SOME kind of education and structure. So, he's 10yrs old and technically 5th grade. But although bright, he's behind where he could/should be (based on his abilities), because of our lack of regular schooling, esp in math. On top of that, we've recently converted to Catholicism, and I'd like to use homeschooling to help us continue to learn about our new faith. I need an open and go curriculum. I don't mind it teacher involvment, but I need to be able to just open up a schedule and do what it says. I'm usually a "tweaker" and have been mixing and matching curriculum forever. I've been using TOG since before there was a Classic version, so I'd say I'm sort of a eclectic CMer. :lol: I'm just so tired of trying to figure out a schedule for every little thing. I'm looking at Kolbe, CHC and MODG. Any suggestion about which one might be a good fit? I'll prolly stick with our Math and Science program. If possible, I'd like a curriculum where the different subjects tie in together... so that our Lit Books match the same time frame as History, which matches Geography, etc. KWIM? Do any of these three do that? I'm not looking for rigorous at this point, just something easy to implement, that will help him catch up and move forward, and help us get back on track. Thanks!!!
  12. I have used TOG twice in the past. The first time around, it was with the classic, and it was when my oldest was in 1st or 2nd grade. I was pretty overwhelmed! The second time around, I think my oldest was in 6th grade or so. It went OK, but I never left the "Fog." I think I finally realized that I needed something with daily assignments. Since that time we've used Sonlight some and My Father's World some. We are most currently coming from MFW. My oldest 2 are using their high school levels, and while I really do like it, it provides no guide for the parent, so I'm LOST. And I can't just wing it when it comes to discussion. They aren't fabulous in the comprehension department either, so I can't just rely on them to tell me what they've been reading. My 6th grader is my trickiest when it comes to school. I held him back in kindergarten due to maturity (he has an April birthday - he'll be 13 this next April), but as it turns out he also has dyslexia, dysgraphia, Central Auditory Processing Disorder, and I suspect some other sort of processing issue. (Finding help for any of my kids has been nearly impossible.) He fits the description of a visual-spatial learner to a T. Consequently, all the read-alouds in Sonlight and MFW haven't really done anything for him. There are some hands-on things in MFW, but not a lot, and not nearly as many as what I remember there being in TOG. I also like the alternate resources like videos in TOG - I think those would be great for him. So I'm considering a switch back, and I've been trying to read up on planning so that I don't stay in the Fog this time. We'll be finishing up our current levels of MFW in Dec.-Jan. I've already got figured out what my 9th, 10th, and 12th graders will be doing for rest of the school year, so at first I'll just have UG and LG students. But next school year (provided all goes well!) I'll add in my then 10th grader. I'll probably have her do D as she transitions. I'm looking at using Y1U4 starting in Jan., since that will be right where we'll leave off in our level of MFW (Creation to the Greeks). I'm leaning toward the print version since resale is pretty important to me. I couldn't quite understand what I'd be missing out on when it came to updates though as compared to the DE. Help? Also, is there anyone else who prefers daily plans that have made TOG work for them? That really was my biggest issue before - I didn't know how to break down the weekly assignments into daily chunks. I also have a friend who has all 4 levels of the print version for sale. From what I can tell on the TOG website, I would have to pay for any updated pages with substituted resources, if i purchased from her? Am I understanding that correctly? How would I find out what else I would need as far as MapAids, Pop Quizzes, Loom, etc. go?
  13. I'm having a hard time finding this on the forum although I am certain someone must have posted on this in the past... I would love to hear from anyone who has used both products and can compare them for me? I like VP a lot but am looking to get into a 4-year cycle as my 2nd child will be starting 1st grade next year. My oldest will only be 3rd grade, but I would love to not buy something now and have to buy a different program again for dialectic (in case you were going to say TOG is too much for lower grades). If I can avoid it, that is. So what I would love to hear is, what did you find were the pros and cons of each? Was BP "enough," or did you find it was a little skimpy? Did BP bring in a significant amount of other subjects - like art history, or philosophy, etc.? (Yes I realize that you won't be doing a lot of this for UG level, but I am thinking about the future, or in case we want to just mention a topic.) Really I am looking for a basic roadmap that I can add to - I just worry from the sample that BP is just too little info. Assuming the hefty price for TOG is not an issue, I'm just wondering whether it would be worth it. Because while I hate to pay that much for our history curric, I would REALLY hate to pay it, and then not use 90% of it (I mean ultimately - not for our 3rd grade year), or to buy it and scrap it all together the following year to try something entirely different...   14. I've spent the last two days researching here and got a LOT of my questions answered. This forum is a goldmine!!! However, now I have all new questions after all the reading I've done ;) Please bear with me if any of this is redundant or has already been covered and I missed the thread! Feel free to link and redirect me to any threads your think would help :) My questions are: VERITAS: I've read a lot about how Omnibus is more GB with a little bit of history and I personally would prefer the subjects to be more equal. For those of you with Omnibus experience, does the program allow room to add more history on my own? Would I be doing WAY too much and overloading my student if I did that? Any suggestions on how I could add more history to Omnibus? I just love the self-paced samples of Omnibus on their site and I can't seem to write them off just yet since I really like everything else about it. TOG: Would I be better off just to go with TOG for the rhetoric stage? It seems (from what I've read here) that it's more balanced on history/GBs than Omnibus. However, TOG seems like a beast of a curriculum and I can't make heads or tails of the free samples online :/ Would someone ease my mind that I can teach and lead my kids in great dialectic conversations through our history studies and literary analyses without a formal "teacher/tutor" as would be offered through VPs self-paced Omnibus? CC Challenge: After being in CC for 4 years, and listening to the Challenge push every summer at Practicum, I was still not convinced or sold on the program for our family. I drank the Kool-Aid the first 2 years but thankfully I woke up to other options and researched classical education outside of what CC/Leigh teaches. The only thing I liked about Challenge was the opportunity for my dc to have peers that are reading and studying the same things, and the ability to have those priceless dialectic discussions with their peers. I also liked the ease of doing mock trials and debates through the program. HOWEVER, and that's a BIG however! After seeing so much in the last 4 years, the company (not my local community which is lovely!) has left a very bad taste in my mouth. Their politics, their choke-hold on local directors, the inconsistency throughout the administration, intimidation tactics, and hypocrisy in their dealings with local communities is incredibly disappointing. But still, what are the other options? Where else can my dc have dialectic discussions about the GBs they'll be reading, history they'll be analyzing, and all of the wonderful topics that come with the Rhetoric stage? Do I ask grandparents, aunts and cousins to read the same books so they have someone else to discuss ideas with besides mom and dad? lol! Please, tell me there are options outside of Challenge?! :) Then also, how do you tackle Mock Trial on your own? Speech and debate? That was way to long but alas, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the above. Is TOG my answer and I'm just in denial? ;) Self-paced Omnibus just looks so neatly packaged! And I don't want my kids to miss out on the conversations that Challenge allows for... your thoughts please?!
  15. I used TOG for about half a year a few years ago, so I'm familiar with it, but my son wil be a junior next year and has not been using TOG so far. Because we've been eclectic thus far, he has an American History credit and a Geography credit. He will still need to get a World History credit as well as a semester of Government and a semester of Economics. Is there any way I can use TOG and count it for a World History credit this year? I am flexible on what year we use, but own yr 1 and 2. Thanks for the input. FYI, I also have kids in grades 9, 5, 4, 1, K.
  16. Hi! If there are any of you who use TOG with your younger kids, I have a question for you: I am behind…..really behind. (finishing week 10) I love the curriculum and have just found a groove. I want to cover the remaining year's material even if it's just a light skimming, but I really don't want to do school past the end of May. I don't even know if this is realistic. Is there a way I can hit the highlights, so that there isn't too big of a gap in learning when we start year 2 in the fall? I got really bogged down in the first several weeks with all the bible reading plus trying to get used to the curriculum and figuring out how much or little to do. Now I am at a quicker pace, but I rely on library books and have hit some waiting periods with that process. Here is what I found works for us: First: Vocabulary (the most concrete ones) (my Ker copies the words, cuts out pictures and pastes above correct word) Second: Map (he colors, then glues on the correct labels that I have precut from the answer map) Third: we read the main book that goes with that week (or the alternate if the main one isn't available) I also hang up the vocab and map work during the week which reinforces learning. I have done some of the activities, but often do not, because I keep running out of time. This year with our schedule, what I finally figured out works for us is to do history 3 days/wk. (We take my daughter to/from preschool 2x/wk, are in a Monday co-op, and do afternoon sports most days. Next year our mornings are clear and our school schedule will have much more flexibility. Thank goodness!) Id prefer not to drop the vocab or map work, but I'm guessing I might have to consider that if I want to zoom through the remainder of the time. My main concern is that I don't want a big time gap in the content when we start year 2 in the fall. I am firm about starting a new year in the fall (I plan to take a break between cycles in 4th grade for our state history, and I know this year's material will be covered again in 5th grade- which will be so fun and more in-depth and engaging because of the age). Any thoughts, comments, tips from some veteran TOG users who might be reading this? (BTW- my k'er loves history and will often ask to read history, and enjoys the map and vocab activities.)   17. Hi everyone, I am a four-year MFW user, starting with Adventures and now we are in Exp-1850. I have a 6th grader, a 3rd grader, and a 1st grader doing MFW-1st right now. And I'm feeling for the first time like MFW isn't working for us. The issues: --I want to do with all three boys together somehow, but the age range makes this difficult. I thought I could include my youngest into some of the science reading/activities and perhaps some of the history, but it hasn't worked out. His attention span isn't there. --History read-aloud time has become challenging because 1) my eldest is a visual learner so he would rather just read everything on his own; 2) my second son is a kinesthetic learner and sitting and listening isn't his style, either. --I end up foregoing the assigned 2nd/3rd grade supplement for this year because there just isn't time, so my 3rd grader rarely gets to experience age-appropriate activities in history and science. --We get behind on read-alouds as a result of it not being a favorite activity of my kids. As much as I wish I could sit and read aloud to them for hours, it is just not holding their attention and it's making history a chore for them and for me. So....help??? I have appreciated MFW overall through the years, but I'm feeling like it's not working as much for me as it did in past years. If you have made a switch from MFW to something else, say TOG which intrigues me a bit or anything else, I would love to hear your thoughts about what prompted you to make the switch and how it has worked out for you.   18. Ok, so my oldest is only in first grade but I'm a "big picture" kind of person, and I like to have a general idea of what direction we're going to be headed in. That being said, what are your thoughts on breaking up the history cycle amongst your kids? We are currently doing SOTW and we love it, and I do plan to continue using it through 4th grade for my oldest. I have three other DC behind her, and they are all 2 years apart, so theoretically it would be very easy to stick with the 3x 4-year cycle as SWB advocates. But beyond SOTW I'm sort of lost as to what curriculum or spine will take us forward. I would consider moving to TOG when DD gets to 5th grade, since I would like something that incorporates history, geography, literature, and Bible, as much as possible anyway. BUT. What I would really like to do is Omnibus for 7th-12th. I could do SOTW for 1-4, then 2 years of American history or world geography, then transition to Omnibus after that. But that would really screw things up for my younger kids, if we were trying to keep them all studying the same material at their own levels. So my long-winded question is, is it really necessary for one's sanity to keep the kids studying the same point in history at the same time? If so, why? It seems like once the student is able to read fairly well, he will be reading the history material on his own anyway. Has anyone successfully taught multiple kids who were NOT studying the same period? Or, conversely, does anyone have any groundbreaking advice on how to shoehorn Omnibus into a 4-year plan without leaving out too much material? I like TOG but I prefer the reading lists for Omnibus. * Sigh * This is what I waste my time thinking about: what we're going to do three years from now. Just for my peace of mind, I welcome any advice you want to give me!
  19. Has anyone ever heard of a book-swap co-op or is there one on this site? We are using Tapestry of Grace Redesigned, Year 1 this year. I was telling an lady that it's too expensive to buy all the books recommended just in the primary resource list for one level, let a lone two or three. She said that when she lived over seas there was a book-swap co-op. The way she described it was that one family would agree to buy a particular year plan/unit, and another family a different unit of the same year plan and then they would all swap books through mail to share expenses. I can think of a few different ways to do this, besides what she mentioned. If there is not a book-swap co-op that anyone can tell me about, how could we use this site to get one started? (Sorry, I'm not real familiar with how to use forums and this is my first time on TWTM.) TOG shares similar resources with several other curr. such as VP, MFW, and Sonlight. It would not have to be a book-swap co-op specifically for TOG, just a general book-swap co-op. If anyone knows how to use this site to set one up or can recommend a way to set on up online via another site, I can put together policies/rules.
  20. I'm considering using TOG Year 3 next year and am debating whether or not to order the print version along with the DE. I think they're updating the years right now, so figured the DE would be the best option to catch all of the updates... but not sure if I *need* the print version or not. And, if I do opt for the DE, do you buy the SAP-packs or just print them off yourself (same question for the Map Aids)? I have 3 kids to print/purchase for. I "get" the TOG system and think we can implement it without much of the fog I've heard about... but making my mind up about which option to ORDER is a whole other story! Oy!

  23. I'm planning for fall - 7th & 5th grades. Toying around with the idea of using Tapestry of Grace for the 1st time. I've got what we'd need in my shopping cart and the cost is $582! This is with NO BOOKS in my cart. Then you're looking at the weekly planning that goes into it. ugh Is it worth it? What are my other alternatives? I need to plan well for my dd's middle school history. I want to prepare her for high school studies, but I'm feeling completely overwhelmed right now. Someone, please either talk me out of this or talk me into it. On paper, it looks insane.

A little background DS is an only child and is now 10 years old DS was in 3rd grade public school last year DS was in GT class and bored out of his mind DS is very social, straight A's, never had a problem in public school Teachers LOVED him Our area schools are not good schools I am not against public schools, just the ones we have around here. I started homeschooling in Jan 2012 when he was in 3rd grade We used traditional method (no intergration at all) He loves to math, science, and reading I discoverd Classical Method and loved it I found TOG and fell in love Started TOG in Feb of 2012 Here is where my OCD comes in Since I started TOG in Feb the only way to finish before Fall was homeschool through the summer....so we did. We homeschooled ALL subjects ALL summer It is hard for me to pick and choose. If it suggest something I am going to TRY to have my DS do it. Total burn out by August 2012 so we put DS in 4th grade in Public School They called a meeting with me about skipping 5th grade. This would have DS going from 4th to 6th grade. NO!!! Pulled DS out again in FEB 2013 Put DS in a Co-op like Classical Conversations but uses a lot of Tapestry. (They write their own curriculum) Very liberal arts feel. Heavy writing!!! Ds wrote 5 papers in one week. Lots of reading which he loved. Math and Science was put on backburner. Also a pick and choose curriculum which is hard for me. I want him to do it ALL!!! There suggested schedule has us homeschooling for 8 hours, and science & math as an elective and last on the schedule. Ahhh!!! Too many choices We have found out about a science, math and technology school in our area. It is through the public school system but has a very small population (around 60 students) and it's own campus. It offers 9th - 12th grades. DS would have to apply in the 8th grade and they do accept homeschoolers. We want to homeschool him till then. I do not want my child to skip a grade in school. I love the classical method but I am really wondering if it is just not a fit for us. I cannot handle a buffet style curriculum because I want him to do it all. I have also looked at several curriculums with schedules. I do better with a daily schedule. I am a planner and the words "just relax" do not fit in my vocabulary. That is just the way I am wired. I very much have our homeschool set up like school, and classical just does not seem to fit that. The things I love about classical Chronological History Lots of great literature intergrated into what DS is learning Things I DO NOT love about classical Days are too long. DH gets home at 4:30 and we are still homeschooling after starting at 7:30. The planning myself. I cannot pick and choose. I need a daily schedule. Reading several books at one time ( I don't get this!!!) Why read 2-3 chapters a day from 4-5 different books? I have looked into MFW, SL, MOH (W/Illuminations Schedule), SOTW, and for some reason keep going back to TOG!!! It is kind of like the perfect shoe that is 2 sizes too small. I think it is perfect but it won't fit on my foot....Ugh!!! My husband says to do Abeka and be done with it. That way DS can be a child too. It has the daily schedule of what to do and when, so me and my OCD would not go crazy and start overworking him, but I really love chronological history and heavy literature. However when we were using a traditional method we were finishing right after lunch and were more relaxed. I also got the "I am done for the day feeling" that I need so very much. What do I do? I am scared that I am going to stress myself out to no end and just put him in public school and be done with it. I also need to have him in a co-op environment because he is an only child. There is one close to me but they are more traditional......Teaching Textbooks, Apologia Science, BJP History, etc. I also do not mind Christian curriculum because we are Christian but MOH seems to be overly Christian for us. Key Points I need a daily schedule Heavy literature Chronological History that does start with creation but does not spend 2 years in the bible. I would like to finish school around 1-2ish. Background: -Like many here, I have been intrigued with TOG since I first heard about it, not too far into our homeschooling journey which began 3.5 years ago when my oldest (then in the middle of 1st grade) requested that I homeschool her. I have spent hours reading most of the TOG threads here and just returned from the Great Homeschool Convention in Long Beach where I heard Marcia Somerville (TOG creator) speak - I went to both of her workshops and that's what renewed my interest in the curriculum. At the same time, I also thoroughly enjoyed Susan Wise Bauer's workshops, and was encouraged to continue with TWTM. -We just wrapped up our school year and our first four-year cycle of SOTW / WTM (my oldest) -My children will be entering 5th, 3rd, and 1st grades, so Upper Grammar (maybe some Dialectic) and Lower Grammar Questions: (I do know about the buffet concept and that you don't do everything, but still wondering about how to implement it in these ways) How compatible is TOG with WTM? Does it follow the same question and narration format? (I'm having trouble seeing that with the samples - I see questions only for dialectic and I see writing exercises, but I can't tell if they correlate). Does anyone use SOTW at the spine? Whether using SOTW as the spine or the TOG spine, is it helpful to use the SOTW AG questions & verbal narration followed by written or is the equivalent of that in TOG? Is it realistic to schedule TOG with math, science, grammar, spelling, Latin, Spanish, and intro to Logic? (the latter two just for my 5th grader) If so, how do you do it without taking up your whole day or getting behind in the four-year cycle? Is there art and music appreciation at the UG & LG level at all? I believe I read that it's touched on in the D level. If so, how do you schedule that in along with all of the subjects listed above? How much / what do you read aloud to your UG & LG students? Do you read anything aloud to your D students? ...As it may be obvious, I'm rather attached to the WTM way of doing SOTW, but I also had some real struggles with my oldest and narration (verbal & written), especially in our 2nd and 3rd years. I can't imagine experiencing that with my middle child, while also schooling my oldest and youngest. So I guess I'm looking for some hand holding, but also afraid of losing the benefits of the rigors of going soley with WTM/SOTW. At the same time, TOG seems like more work in some ways - less concentrated and more spread out. Any input to help me decide would be great - I don't want to inflict the three week sample on my children when we've just finished up our school year (we really need a rest period). I have a coupon that has to be used in the next two weeks, so that's part of why I want to decide soon - if I get the full year program, we can get all the instructional DVDs ($50 value) free or free shipping if we buy the print version. Can anyone comment on how helpful those DVDs are?
