Has anyone taken a class with currclick? I saw some positive reviews here for Mr. G's French class, and am considering signing up for that one, but I am a little hesitant about the site and just want to be sure everything is legitimate. It just seems a little odd that it seems so anonymous. Who is Mr. G? We don't even know his real name or see his picture or anything. Every other online class we have looked at shows the teacher's name, their bio, why they are they qualified to teach this subject, and even their picture. I mean, I would want to know the teacher of a class I am signing up

Basically, our son and daughter are from Uganda and our son knew his birth language Luganda (on coming home... and no english) and has gradually learned english this past year. We tried REALLY hard to maintain his birth language, but without us knowing it, it is sort of lost. He does have an amazing ability to recall words... but he only had a 4-5 yo level of understand of his birth language. He knows most food and objects a child of his age would regonize and some basic phrases. While it is pretty obscure, it has no programs to teach it... (like Rosetta Stone) I REALLY want him and al

Hi All, due to discussions with the local admin, I've started wondering the current state of affairs in the US in relation to foreign language study.... When is the first foreign language offered? and a second (meaning when would the student have the option of studying TWO foreign languages at once)? I know some districts have immersion programs starting even in kindergarten...but others don't seem to start til high school (Sr. Hi).... If you have anecdotes about your district I'm interested too....eg how many different languages are offered and when... and which languages? I'm

Hi there, My oldest is entering 3rd grade in the fall, and my second is entering 2nd grade. I'm thinking I might want to do Spanish instead of Latin (adding Latin maybe in 5th grade), because it's important to me that my kids learn the language. We fiddled around a little with Power Glide when my oldest was in 1st grade, but we didn't get very far. I was re-reading WTM and was reminded that if I really want them to learn to speak for real, they need regular conversation in the language with other people. The suggestion was to have a tutor come over twice a week (or more) or have them i

Last night, I found another super cool foreign language resource online. (It looks like this series got 3 brief mentions on WTM forums last year, but this post is for those that missed those threads.) South Carolina Educational Television has free video series and TMs posted for French, Spanish, and German. http://www.knowitall.org/instantreplay/content/LanguageIndex.cfm The program was designed for non-foreign language speaking teachers to include in their classroom curriculum. Students advance through 60 10-15 minute videos in French/Spanish (40 for German). The videos are brok

I was wondering what programs you might recommend for German starting with a 6th grader. I'm familiar with Rosetta Stone, but what else is out there?

After reading the thread about foreign language requirements for college, I'm now concerned. What's wrong with Rosetta Stone? I know it doesn't teach everything, but what it does teach does it do a reasonable job? For my oldest, non-language kid, I plan on using Rosetta Stone as something to essentially fulfill a requirement - he'll never be a foreign language buff - all math geek. My daughter who is seven is wanting to learn Spanish and I was thinking of starting her on Rosetta Stone. This seems like a good place to start since I know no Spanish. Will it mess her up later in life

We just got a new pup, and would consider naming him ears, but not in english. Other related words might be OK if they sounded just right and had a suitable meaning. For example sound, listen, or one who listens. We have heard the pronunciation in spanish for ears, and that does not have the right sound. Any suggestions?:bigear: Thank you in advance for your help. daddygeek

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a study guide for the German SAT subject test? It doesn't seem like there are many options.. Thanks, Joan

DD is very interested in languages. She's been excited about latin for a long time but she's also interested in a few other languages: greek, japanese, spanish, german and french. Greek is something she's willing to drop but then there's all the others... She's always thought japanese would be too difficult for her but she was encouraged my a friend to do it. Spanish, she's also willing to drop and pick up in a few years time when she's at college if the worst comes to the worst but that still leaves Japanese, German and French as well as Latin. French is something she's done in school fo
