  1. DD11 started prealgebra a couple of months ago, we have been rotating through a variety of books since I had so many on the shelf (I'm not the only one, right?) Anyway, of all of them she has latched on to JA as her favorite, so I think we will be making that our spine. But I personally really love the AOPS book and don't want to give it up entirely; I thought we would just continue working systematically through both since we're not in a hurry and I do want to make sure she has a really solid foundation at this level, but that is starting to feel like overkill for a kid who is good at mat
  2. So I'm specifically curious about kids using AoPS PreA "on-level" - 6th or 7th or 8th graders using it for PreAlgebra, not young geniuses using it "early." How long does your student spend working at one sitting? And how much do they get done in one sitting? Alternatively, how long does it take to finish a section? Do they do Lesson problems one day, exercises the next day? And how about review and challenge problems? My dd is loving the book, feels like she's learning from it, and isn't struggling. But it seems to take her a looooooooooooong time to complete a section
  3. I'm trying to get my mind around how we might use AoPS PreA. I had kinda decided not to use it, but I'm reading it again myself, and I keep coming back to the fact: this is the level of math understanding I want dd to have.   4. Hey, I posted this at the end of another thread and got no response, so I'll try again. I have a boy who will be 9 in september. We have used a variety of materials, but the closest to 'curriculum' would be Time4Learning in 1st and 2nd, and LOF - we finished fractions and are currently taking a break from decimals over the summer.   5. Ladies, I need your suggestion for our higher math sequence. Currently my 10.5 yo son and 8.5 yo daughter are doing Horizons 5 and Math Mammoth 5. This combination is working well in terms of depth, challenge, and retention. I even often find that they're able to discover how to do new things themselves without me showing the algorithm/shortcut. So I've been pleased with this. We're planning on going on with Math Mammoth 6 but not HOrizons 6 because I heard that Horizons 6 is mainly review.   8. I had a look at the pre-test for AoPS Pre-Algebra. My son is almost finished with 3B in Singapore and part-way through LOF Fractions so I figured he had a ways to go before he was ready. But I'm pretty sure he could pass that test right now. How is that possible? Should I look into this sooner than I expected?
