I just purchased a used IG for Sonlight Core G (World History Part 1 for 6th Grade) for a friend who is just beginning her homeschool journey. I also purchased the SOTW that goes with it, and she is going to use her library for the readers and read aloud. I did not have a Kingfisher Encyclopedia to give her, but I did give her my Usbourne Encyclopedia of the Ancient World. Would anyone be willing to share any schedule they may have put together using the Usbourne book with Sonlight Core G? I know when I was homeschooling my kids I found all sorts of schedules that were a mashup of Veritas and TOG and other combinations. I was hoping that something already existed that I could send her. She is pretty overwhelmed right now and would appreciate any help I could send her way. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. My kids are in college and my days of being in the loop regarding this sort of thing are behind me:).

I couldn't find a rough 36 week schedule for History of the Ancient World that utilized the entire book and that was organized by civilization, so I made one. I scheduled the book and study guide for my upcoming freshman. He is a fast reader and is allergic to writing. I have also scheduled the first 34 lectures from The Great Course, "The Other Side of History: Daily Life in the Ancient World." I have some videos scheduled that are mostly in my public youtube list--HOTAW. This is a rough draft. I just finished it today and thought someone might want to take a peek at it. I've uploaded it to my dropbox account, here https://www.dropbox.com/s/9w381q0ow416j5z/History%20of%20the%20Ancient%20World.docx?dl=0 The last page (12) is typed out for a bookmark, and lists all the chapters per civilization in roughly chronological order. Our family's strange sense of humor might not be to your liking, but it's at least a start of a schedule. Hope this saves someone some time!

We've just posted the first five instructor and first five student sections from "Study and Teaching Guide for The History of the Ancient World," coming next month from Peace Hill Press. Susan Wise Bauer's "The History of the Ancient World" is widely used in advanced high-school history classes, as well as by home educating parents. This Study and Teaching Guide, designed for use by both parents and teachers, provides a full curriculum with study questions and answers, critical thinking assignments, essay topics, instructor rubrics, and test forms. Explanations for answers and teaching tips are also included. Designed by historian and teacher Julia Kaziewicz, in cooperation with Susan Wise Bauer, makes "The History of the Ancient World" more accessible to parents & teachers. We'll answer your questions on this thread, if you have any.

Managing Story of the World with Multiple Ages
Guest posted a topic in General Education Discussion Board
Next year will be second year homeschooling. My six year old son will be in "first grade" and we are both very excited to start the first Story of the World book. My problem is that I have two other children who will be in kindergarten next year. My other son is five and my daughter is four. She will be five in December, but I thought I could start her homeschooling early so as not to have three different grade levels all at once the following year. She seems quite ready for basic math and basic reading. My main concern surrounds Story of the World. Should I begin next year? If it is too challenging for the the young ones (which I highly suspect) then that means the following year I will have two different levels for History. I was trying to combine as many subjects as I could to better manage my day. Has anyone tried to teach Story of the World with multiple children who were close in age? I could wait a year and start them all at the same time, but my first grader is quite ready and eager. I also have a two year old who will eventually be home schooled and I am concerned about having soooo many different levels in so many different subjects. I expect different levels in reading and math, but I was hoping to combine history, science, and Bible whenever possible. Any advice? Thanks.- 4 replies

I am trying to find a list of all the books that Tapestry of Grace uses or recommends for the first year / Level 1 (the Ancients), specifically for the Lower and Upper Grammar Students. Can anyone provide this or tell me where I can find it? I tried to find it on the TOG website with no luck. Thanks in advance!!

I could have sworn I saw a pin (and repinned it) on Pinterest for a layered dessert that would mimic the way Ancient Romans built roads. Now, of course, the week that I need it, I can't find it anywhere. Does it ring a bell with anyone? The only other thing I can think is that it might be in this book that I borrowed from the library. If you have the book, could you check for me? It's 20mi to the library, so I can't just run out and check. Thanks!

I have to turn in a book list for next year, am swamped with the right-now end-of-the-year stuff, and currently developing two new classes for next year (Ancients, ninth grade and a upper school US history). So, I'd love to hear your suggestions for just *four* major works for rhetoric-level ancients. I definitely want to do Iliad and The Odyssey for the Greeks. Thinking about The Aeneid (Romans), but at a loss for Ancient Egypt. I will be doing some form of Gilgamesh (suggestions?). So, all you book people, talk to me! What would you suggest? Thanks!
