I'm trying to balance my creative and practical sides and would love to hear what has been your favourite way to do the timeline. I like to ease of just buying the blank pages from rainbow resource however with postage that's $30 AU. I found this printable which I like the idea of however it opened the door to all sorts of creative possibilities! I would love to hear/see how your doing it in your homeschool if you would like to share with me.

My oldest used Sonlight's Book of Time (Timeline) when she was in Logic Stage & restarting her history studies from the beginning. I had picked it up really cheap in a box of never-been-used curriculum. My next two will be restarting history next year & I want to have them each keep a book. Should I get them each another one? Is there something just as good / better for a better price? What's out there that you like?

Does anyone know of a timeline that spans creation to modern history that is already filled in for the wall? I’m ok if it takes up some space. I would just like a nice visual so as we read we can find whoever we might be reading about and see what was going on at that time. Any products like that out there? Thanks!

Hi! I need help. I'd like to start a timeline that we can use through the years. What I'm hoping for: to hang it on the wall it's already laminated reusable stickers (images or events), or at least easily removed and replaced ( if needed- not sure ) maybe color coded for different civilizations I have found some online, but they appear to be single pages to put in a binder. I *think* we'd like the continuity of a line vs pages. Maybe not. Any suggestions? What has worked for your family?

I'm in search of a curriculum/timeline that would integrate History, Science, Literature and Art. I'm not sure if anything like this even exists but I thought I'd ask the hive. For instance, what types of Literature and Art were being produced during WWI and what scientific discoveries influenced the period?

I'm new to the Logic stage so I just had a question for those of you who are using WWS. Do you do the Notebooking/Outlining/Timeline/Source Eval with your core subjects? Or just as directed by WWS for writing? (Caveat-I've only glanced at WWS so far and it 'seems' like that is how it is set up. My question may be moot if I'm wrong about that...) Our core this year is US History. Long story short, I got the My Father's World Adventures in US History before we knew we'd be adding a 7th grader to the family. The materials are actually intended for 2-3rd graders who are the oldest students in the home. I decided to go ahead as planned and just beef up my requirements for him. I want to keep his academics on the lower demand side since we have a lot of adjusting to do anyway. Thanks for all suggestions and insight.

We're not going to do Classical Conversations anytime soon, but I am very interested in their timeline/cards. I love the idea of memorizing a time line and memory work is definitely something my girls enjoy doing already. I'm considering making the jump on these cards, but would like to hear any pros and cons you can think of for them, as well as other options. Also, how long does it take to memorize it all (like 1 school year, 2, etc.) assuming regular practice for an interested Kindergardener? Here's the link in case you don't know what I'm talking about. :) ETA: I'm bumping my own thread because I had another question that is related. If any of you have done the timeline all the way through (either CC's or the old Veritas Press one), did you find that it helped your children as they went on. I am totally sold on memorization, so it's not really a general memorization worth question, but specifically for timelines. My gut says it can only be good, but I was hoping for some anecdotal evidence to support my gut.

Has anybody used this timeline from Milliken? If so, how do you like it? Thanks in advance!

Questions regarding making a timeline as TWTM suggests: Do you have each child make their own timeline? (I'd imagine so) And do you just use long sheets of white paper and tape them together end-to-end? Thinking about starting this next fall.... Thanks.

American history (early modern) timline figures.
Monarch Room posted a topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I made some American History timeline figures to share. For those of you who have the History Odyssey timeline, they are a perfect fit. These correlate to our HOD units, but you will find many of them to be ones you would study in American History otherwise. There are a few that are pretty arbitrary IMO, but ah well. I'm going with the HOD flow. Hopefully I'm not being annoying by posting this. I know how much I love when people post things that I could use. The ones Angela (from Satori Smiles) shared last year were so helpful. I hope the ones I made are helpful to someone too :) http://www.monarchroom.com/2012/08/american-history-timeline-figures-heart.html- 1 reply

I want to make a Timeline Wall for my kids! I have the cd collection from homeschool in the woods for the figures. Plus, we have loads and loads of National Geo. magazines to cut from. So, I'm trying to figure out how to make this timeline.....should I cover the wall with posterboard/bullentin board paper then draw the timeline on it with dates?? I can't aford to purchase one already prepared to smack on my wall.....so I'm left to do this. The timeline book just isn't triggering my dc. So seeing it on the wall will be helpful and colorful! Any suggestions of how to make this or any pictures of your own timeline wall would be soooo helpful! Thank you!

I am starting the Logic Stage of History with my rising 5th grader. We'll be using SOTW along with his younger sister, and K12 Human Odyssey and Classical House of Learning. I also want to incorporate a timeline but we don't have the wall space, so I am looking for a Timeline Book. I really like the look of the one from History Odyssey but I can't figure out how it would go into a notebook without cutting off valuable space from the timeline? Has anyone used the HO one in a notebook instead of wall-mounted? What other Timeline Books would you recommend? I don't think my son will write very much and he definitely won't draw pictures. It would be good if it had some basic facts in it and then he fills in the details. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Has anybody created or found a timeline (bookform) that you have put both Biblical and Historical events in it? I would like to find an EASY timeline to fill out...very basic...very quick...I can barely get eveything done the way it is...but I think a timeline is a good visual way to learn. Can anybody help me out???

This probably isn't new to you but I found this timeline when I was online tonight. I am pretty weak in US and world history and seeing it all laid out was amazing. http://www.animatedatlas.com/timeline.html

I am looking at four right now (but am open to other suggestions) 1. Sonlight Timeline along with the figures. I'm guessing this isn't secular ;) but can it be used secularly? If we went this route, we'd purchase the stickers too, I think. 2. History Odyssey Timeline (not clear how much of this is filled out for you? Would rather not have a prefilled out timeline, but stickers are nice!) 3. Simple, blank timeline (cheap!) 4. Homeschool in the Woods.Hmmm, this doesn't look like it could be used secularly. What do you use in your homeschool? Open to ideas!:bigear: (oh, but I don't want a wall timeline--we tried that and failed miserably at keeping up, and then we repainted the walls so......we never put it back up! ETA: But looking at some of the wall ones after googling, it might be possible-i do like the idea of having it UP on the wall all the time....as long as it's not HUGE...hmmmm)

I am looking for some History timeline clipart which specifically deals with the Science strand. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I just photo-blogged about the new 2011 Pandia Press History Odyssey Classical Education Timeline. Whew, that's a mouthful. The review has plenty of photos, thorough description, and differences between their older version and the new 2011 version. Thumbs up! :D For those that read it right away (and commented already), I did add a few updates to the post in the past half hour.

I will have two logic stage students this fall-we want to start a timeline but not sure how to go about it. I do know I want to purchase something. So, timeline vs. notebook (Book of Centuries, a la Charlotte Mason)? One for each kid, or is this a family project? Where to buy what I need? Thanks again for all your help! Jennifer

I would like to use our wall (about 12 feet wide) for a history timeline. We just started with Ancient History and have been adding figures to our Wonders of Old Timeline book. However, seeing a timeline on a wall from several feet away might help a 5-year old see history better than from a book. I bought clothespins and can probably find some rope somewhere in the house, but now what? We have a picture railing a foot below our ceiling if that helps with ideas. If anyone is willing to share photos, I would really love to see them. Thank you.

Hi Everyone, Could anyone tell me how they handle timeline work for older students? We have tried to use timelines in our homeschool, but dd didn't like putting figures on the timelines. The entire process seemed like busy work to her. However, if we use a WEM approach to history/literature, a timeline will be a visual way to anchor the work. I've read most of the posts on timelines and got a few ideas, but wondered if any of you have done something different. Full-size cardstock seems too large if we are not putting on figures (?). Also, has anyone worked out a method for color-coding the timeline; i.e. science entries in blue, literature in green, etc.? Do you let your student choose who and what they put on the timeline? I would like for the timeline to personal and meaningful rather than a school exercise. Thank you. Bonita

Do you have a favorite one? I love the idea of a wall timeline but I honestly do not have the space.
