  1. Dd is nearing the end of Jolly Phonics, and I was thinking of getting Logic of English for us to move on to next. I was thinking of just buying the pdf of the first ten chapters, but I was wondering, does that include all the introductory materials? Thanks! :001_smile: ETA: Meh. Never mind. I found the videos on youtube, and after watching LoE looks a bit too dull and textbooky, even for me.
  2. I don't need any more writing for kiddo, and I'm happy to adapt, to type up a little. I want to use it as a review of all the phonics and spelling rules we learned from the SWR flashcards K-2. I want to go over them in a different way for a now-older child. Is the TM enough?
  3. I am going to be combining LOE and MCT for my 11 year old daughter was is a great reader but has poor phonemic awareness. This has caught up to her. Anyway, I have AAS rule cards for levels 1 and 2. Can those be used with LOE? I also have an 8 year old on level 3 of Barton (dyslexic) I have to wonder if I NEED the rule cards and the game cards. Do I NEED to spend that money? I am thinking both kids may enjoy and get quite a bit out of the games. What do you think?
  4. If you use this as a supplement to MCT, which do I need for a rising 4th grade 10 yo? Basic set? Full set? There is almost a $70 difference between the two, so I had to question if the extras in the full set are necessary or worth it. From the Rainbow Resource description: The Full Set includes everything in the Basic Package plus Spelling Rule Flash Cards, a Spelling Journal, the Phonogram & Spelling Game Book and the three different sets of Phonogram Game Cards. Thanks, Hive!
  5. I contacted RR because the LOE items are new and there aren't any pictures or descriptions. I had no idea what was included in their sets. I asked about 3 of their sets and a couple things that I suspected were LOE but they aren't labeled as such yet. Here's what I found out: LOECUR Logic of English Essentionals Curriculum w/ Cursive includes: 053036 Logic of English Essentials Cursive Workbook 053619 Logic of English Essentials Teacher's Manual LOEBCR Logic of English Essentials Basic Curriculum w/ Cursive includes: 053035 Logic of English Basic Phonogram Flash Cards 053036 Logic of English Essentials Cursive 053619 Logic of English Essentials Teacher's Manual LOEFCR Logic of English Essentials Full Curriculum w/ Cursive includes: 053035 Logic of English Basic Phonogram Flash Cards 053036 Logic of English Essentials Cursive Workbook 053038 Logic of English Phonogram & Spelling Game Book 053039 Logic of English Spelling Journal 053040 Logic of English Spelling Rule Flash Cards 053619 Logic of English Essentials Teacher's Manual 053620 LOE Phonogram Game Cards-Black Manuscript 053621 LOE Phonogram Game Cards-Blue Manuscript 053622 LOE Phonogram Game Cards-Green Cursive I asked about item 054540 called Cursive Handwriting Program and item 054541 Grammar Flash Cards. They confirmed that these both are for LOE by PediaLearning. Just wanted to pass along this info in case it helps anyone else.
  6. Is this new? I just heard about it. :001_huh: For those of you using this....where did you buy it (is it only available at their website), and what is needed?
  7. I have scheduled out the first 5 Lessons (11 weeks worth) of Logic of English Essentials for my 4 and 6 year old. I know many of you were trying to do the same thing, so here it is if you want to see them! http://onlypassionatecuriosity.wordpress.com/2012/06/17/logic-of-english/ Let me know if you have any suggestions or questions!
  8. I went to convention, saw Logic of English, and bought most of it! I am so excited to get started! Plus I loved Denise Eide's presentation on strategies to use with children who cannot sit still. It was full of practical ideas that I will implement immediately with my little ones. The manual looked so expensive to me on the website, but when I could see it in person and see how MUCH was in it, and see how well this program is organized, well then it seemed completely worth it to me. :001_smile: I'll try to update after I have had time just to sit with it!
  9. From what I understand students need to know the basic phonograms before starting. However I can't quite figure out if handwriting is taught or if it is assumed that handwriting has already been learned? Anyone know?
  10. Anyone have experience with this? Is this a complete spelling program or would additional programs be needed after completing LOE? We are using FLL for grammar, would both FLL and LOE be overkill? I would love to hear from you if you are using this and how it's working for your family. Or if you looked at it and decided no to use it, could you please share why not? Thanks!
  11. I'm thinking of getting LOE for third grade including cursive writing. If you have used this program, please let me know how it's going - the good and the bad.
  12. I'm thinking of ordering LOE for oldest DS and eventually youngest DD, but before I order I'm wondering if anyone has purchased it and not liked it? I have seen many positive reports here on the boards, but nothing negative.
  13. I LOVE AAS (using 2 and 3 right now) and I'm doing AAR with my preschoolers and I love that too. Before AAS I used SWR for 1 1/2 years with my oldest so I am familiar with the Spalding method in Sanseri form. I am trying to follow the recommendations from Classical Conversations and I own WRTR but felt AAS/AAR was easier for me to implement. I had never heard of Logic of English before until tonight and now I am fascinated. The main reason I am fascinated is that I'm thinking if this can be done faster and also incorporate grammar maybe it would be a better use of my time with a large family than AAS/AAR which has so many levels. It would also save me money in the long run. These are my hesitations: 1. It doesn't look as "fun". Not that fun is my goal, but my oldest likes AAS way better than she did SWR. There are no stickers, crafts (AAR PL1), puppets (AAR PL1), jail, Silent E detective book, etc. which make it fun. It does have games which could definitely make it more fun. And sometimes I think it would be a relief not to have those crafts. 2. I am worried that it doesn't cover as many words as AAS/AAR and doesn't stay on one phonogram long enough the way AAS/AAR does. 3. It doesn't have cute readers like AAR does. 4. I can't decide if incorporating grammar is a plus or a minus. I think it is a plus but not totally sure on this. 5. I would prefer to start with a ZB type manuscript font and then move to a manuscript font like LOE has and then to cursive. Would this be a problem? 6. Do they have sentence dictation like AAS has? I think AAS' sentence dictation is a HUGE part of why it is successful for my kids. 7. What does it cover for composition? 8. Does it take longer until they can actually read than AAR? My kids will do Essentials through CC in 4th-6th grade but I'm thinking this might be the perfect amount for them to cover from PreK-3rd grade in order to lay a great foundation in grammar, composition, handwriting, spelling, and reading (just adding copywork book) without having too much on my plate. But I have really liked the O-G letter tile aspects as well and I'm worried that if I jump ship on AAS/AAR and spend a bunch more money I'll regret it. Can anyone help me compare these two and give me some insight? I'd really appreciate it!
