  1. I am considering this text: Algebra & Trigonometry Functions and Applications, by Paul Foerster, Prentice Hall, Classics Edition or Abeka Algebra 2, but read that the latter is labeled 'honors'. I am currently looking into whether it can be adapted to be a regular text. Wondering your experience? Advice? PRos and cons? Thank you!
  2. On what do you base your final grade for math? How much weight do the tests have in the overall final grade? Do you count daily assignments? If so, what percent of the final grade is the daily work? My son did very well on his daily work, but doesn't test quite as well. I want to average his daily assignments into his final grade, but don't know what would be appropriate as far as percentage goes. Any advice? Thanks!
  3. I know some start in 8th grade or below- regardless of the grade started, what is the best sequence for math? Sequence 1- More traditional Algebra 1 Geometry Algebra 2 Pre-Calc Calc OR Sequence 2- I have been told this is best Algebra 1 Algebra 2 Geometry Pre-Calc Calc Why do you feel one is better than the other?   4. In GA, students have to have 4 math credits to graduate and business math cannot be one of them. I have a friend who's dd has used MUS for Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. She struggled to even do decently in Algebra 2. Her mom didn't know she would have to do a higher math than Algebra 2. One complaint she's had about MUS is that dd has to do it all to get a decent grade, and it can take a long time. What would be a good curricula choice for her? She wants a teaching element like video or something easy to understand. She looked at Life of Fred, and though she likes it, she's afraid it
  5. I've used Singapore Math since 3rd grade for DS1 who is going into 8th grade now. He completed NEM1 last year and did well in it. We like the format. I was reading over some reviews recently and saw one on RR that I don't remember reading before.   6. After reading Capt_Uhura's thread about algebra, I'm curious, which math programs take an integrated approach to math, rather than splitting it into Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, etc.? Also, do you feel there are any disadvantages to an integrated approach to math?

  10. We have been using Math U See since the beginning. My son is finishing 7th grade now, and about to complete the MUS pre-algebra book. Should I stick with MUS for Algebra and beyond, or switch to something else for high school? MUS is working fine for us. He gets mostly A's and B's in spite of not being a math-lover.
