  1. Hey all, Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on the Landmark Baptist Literature curriculum? I am thinking of using 3rd. It intrigues me because they use the McGuffey readers. I have also looked at CLE reading but wasn't impressed. Am I missing something by just looking at the samples? Josephine
  2. Has anyone here used this with their children? I stumbled across it on Rainbow Resource and I am now curious :) http://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?subject=7&category=6771
  3. We are using this and finally seeing results. My only problem is it ends with the 8th grade. Has anyone else used this program? I'm wondering if there is anything that is all-in-one for 9th through 12th grade? I await with bated breath on the wisdom and experience of the Hive.
  4. Starting this thread as a spin off of the Logic of English thread. Who uses this curriculum? Do you like it? We just started using CGE Gr. 1 and plan to breeze through some of the pages and then start CGE Gr. 2 in the fall. So far it seems well-organized and thorough. We are pleased. I purchased mine at Clay Bookstore in Ephrata, PA. But I have also seen the books at Rainbow Resource and rodandstaffbooks.com.
  5. I went to convention, saw Logic of English, and bought most of it! I am so excited to get started! Plus I loved Denise Eide's presentation on strategies to use with children who cannot sit still. It was full of practical ideas that I will implement immediately with my little ones. The manual looked so expensive to me on the website, but when I could see it in person and see how MUCH was in it, and see how well this program is organized, well then it seemed completely worth it to me. :001_smile: I'll try to update after I have had time just to sit with it!
  6. Anyone have experience with this in the 5th and up levels? I'm wondering if it's on level. R&S is quite above level, so I'm not sure where this is at level wise. It also looks to be a bit less of mastery than R&S, although still mastery.
  7. I ordered Climbing to Good English 2 for this year to do some solid review before we get to Rod and Staff English 3 next year. Something I noticed right off is that it is heavy on having 2nd graders learn dictionary respellings. I never learned this skill in school and am wondering how many of you have had your children do this. Is it necessary or even useful at this age?? It seems it may be confusing, especially for a weak speller (we are working on strengthening our spelling this year), and I am considering just marking through all these sections in the CGE book and skipping over them. Any experience or thoughts on this?
  8. I just got in Climbing to Good English 2 and 3. I was interested in the respelling and dictionary exercises, and the instructions on handwritten letters. They are what I was hoping for, in these topics, and I am pleased. I'm kind of curious about the series as a whole. I see a bit of spelling in the workbooks and I think I remember a bit of spelling in the Pathway workbooks. Is that all the spelling the Amish children receive? The comp and grammar looks adequate, but I have better in other books.
  9. Anyone have success using Climbing to Good English? How about using it as remedial work with an older student or as review? Any tips on how to implement this curriculum? ;)
  10. I heard that Climbing to Good English is a lot similar with R&S . For those familiar with these programs , what are your thoughts on this ? I LOVE CTGE ! It's so easy to use and almost independent. I also like that it is a workbook format and so affordable. But I am wondering if I don't skip something by not using R&S :)
  11. I've seen it compared to Rod and Staff on this board, but on the samples I don't see anything about diagramming.
  12. Has anyone used Climbing to Good English? During 2nd and 3rd grade respelling is introduced to familiarize the student with using the dictionary pronunciation. I'm finding the concept interesting, though its completely new to me. I'm just not sure what to think about it, lol. Anyone else?
  13. Anyone have experience with these two? My understanding is that Climbing To Good English is very similar to Rod and Staff but uses a workbook, rather than having the students rewrite everything... are there more differences, is one superior? Thanks in advance!
  14. Has anyone used Climbing to Good English series? I am interested in using it for my 5th grader next year, any reviews or comparisons to what everyone uses would really help. Also, I am looking for an English program to use for my 12 grade son next year. I am mainly looking for a review with his grammar and things like that. I was thinking about Easy Grammar Plus, or Easy Grammar Ultimate Series. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks Karen
  15. I am using CGE 1 with 6 yo dd. I like it, she likes it, it is dirt cheap so I wonder if I'm missing something. Does anyone else use it? I plan on using CGE 2 next year. I am going to add spelling and Serl's PLL for Language Arts. Is this enough? Is CGE lacking (other than being extremely plain)?
  16. I just started using the Pathway Readers and Climbing to Good English (level one) with my younger ds. When I was looking at samples for next year I noticed that the English series goes up to grade 8. The online samples look pretty good, although diagramming is not part of the program. My older ds will be in 7th grade next year and I am wondering if this would be enough for grammar. Has anyone used this through grade 8? Thanks. Amy C
