  1. Which chapter of the Bible would you want your children to know before they go to college/move out? Just thought this would be an interesting thread.:)
  2. Hi all, Many of you have asked about the availability of "Telling God's Story, Year Two: The Kingdom of Heaven." I'm happy to announce that the book, and its accompanying Activity Book, are now available as downloadable PDFs. Find them at our webstore, here. Print versions are in process and should become available in the next few weeks. We'll update you on that here, as well as on Facebook, Twitter, and the Olive Branch Books blog. Justin from Peace Hill Press and Olive Branch Books
  3. Ds (6.5) and dd(4)will be doing a Bible lesson with me next year. My concern (since my son will be in school) is the length of each lesson. How much time do each of these programs take to complete a lesson: -Bible study Guide for All ages -Grapevine Stick figure through the Bible -positive Action for Christ Any recommendations for other curriculum? How to save time?
  4. Can anyone give some advice on a strong Old Testament history program? Rigorous is preferable. I am hoping to use an actual curriculum or study guide and not just wing it through the Bible. If you have tried one and hated it, I'd like to hear that too. I am hoping to not use a unit study method for this one. My son does not flourish with unit studies. My student is 7th grade but the program would probably need to be high school or college level.
  5. Ok, I need help from the hive to help me with my memory loss. I am trying to remember the name of a Bible memory program like Awana but more intensive. They meet at churches. I am totally drawing a blank. I think they memorize chapters of the Bible. Help!
  6. I am trying to remember the name of a program similar to awana but more intensive. It is driving me crazy. Help me hive!
  7. I have searched this forum and have not found if anyone has gone through and created a bible reading plan to coincide with SWB's History of the Ancient World. If you have or know of a list, please let me know. I am going to be reading the ancient history text and would love to follow along with my bible reading. Thank you. Crystal M.
  8. It looks interesting, but I'm having trouble figuring out what I would need to purchase in order to do the program with my children. I have a 7 & 10 year old. So, would I need a teacher guide (Unit 1 - 104 lessons) and then student pages for each child - probably intermediate and advanced (4 sets of 26 lessons to cover all 104 in the teacher guide). So what else would I need? Timeline? I just don't understand what all I would need to do the program. Anyone willing to spell it out a little for me and also let me know how they like it? Also, how often do you do it and how long does it take to do a lesson? So, how long would 104 lessons last me? Thanks so much. :) Angel
  9. Hi there, I am contemplating using Weaver for my Grade 1 level child. I am using Weaver Interlock at the moment and I find it really great BUT I am wondering whether my child is actually retaining any of the information. I am using CLE for Language Arts - my daughter seems to remember things from this from day to day. Yet for our Bible, character and Weaver Interlock stuff she just can't seem to recall barely anything? Is it that Unit studies are more fun and all over the place so that kids may not be able to retain as much knowledge as if it was all in order? I just wondered what other people's experiences are with unit studies and maybe some tips on how to teach her so that she recalls it better. Thanks Sherid
  10. I have been using TOG for 3+ years and it fits us well...except that I would like to begin using the VP history and Bible cards. Does anyone have a schedule already made that matched the VP cards with TOG weeks. I am looking for YR 4 but would be grateful for any of the years. Although this is not exactly what I am looking for, some of you may find this helpful. The Ten O'Clock Scholar has is a link to a TOG yr 1 and CC cycle 1 schedule. http://theten0clockscholar.blogspot.com/2009/06/classical-conversations-cycle-1-and.html
  11. I am planning 6 months in advance for the challenge of homeschooling my very bright, challenging boy. I am working on a list of Bible scriptures to inspire me while homeschooling. Do you have any suggestions? My challenges are temper and patience. But "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." Philippians 5:13 :)
  12. I am considering what I want to do for next year as far as Bible for my kindergartener. Do you think this is a sufficient enough curriculum: 1. Read for devotional and memorize My ABC Bible Verses: Hiding God's Word in Little Hearts 2. Start on reading and memorizing the children's catechism through Big Truths for Little Kids: Teaching Your Children to Live for God I would love to do something that would be a survey of the Bible or incorporate copywork. Any suggestions?
  13. Is anyone going to use the new Bible study stuff from Peace Hill Press? I'd love to know your thoughts.
  14. I would love to hear any thoughts or ideas in teaching the Bible to a first grader? I did not grow up with a good scriptural foundation and so I don't have a lot of experience in teaching the scriptures. There are many times when I read it myself and am amazed at what I learn the scriptures actually mean when talking to others rather than what I am able to take away just from my own reading. We have a few children's bible's around the house. Right now my daughter loves watching the Animated Stories from the Bible series. We watch those and then read the corresponding stories in our Children's Bibles and then move on to the actual scripture. We do some scripture memorization. Are there any curriculum's, programs, websites or resources that you have found invaluable in creating a love and understanding for the scriptures? Free or cheap is preferred but I'd love to hear about any resources that you just can't do without. :) Thanks so much for your tips. Jessica
  15. I am interested in using this for 3rd and 5th grade. I would like us all to do it together. What do you thing about the 5th grader doing the 3rd grader book also? My kids don't use the KJV (not opposed to it, just felt NIV was easier for them to read), would they have problems with this?
  16. During the HEAV Convention I stopped by a booth called Picture-Smart Bible Study. This looks very good, especially if you have artistic/crafty kids. Basically, you draw your way through the Bible! This study includes scripture to read with your children, a light teaching script, and "master" drawings, and reproducible drawing pages that help you to committ major Bible stories and events to memroy. It also includes lesson review questions. Here is the website: www.picture-smartbible.com If you've used this, did you like it? If you have not, check out the website! What are your thoughts?
  17. I'm thinking through history for my family... ...it must be taught to different levels at same time, ...it must be living books driven, ...above all have a christian worldview and teach Bible. I've been looking at ToG, MFW, HOD, BF, WP, VP, etc. and its hard to tell from the samples on websites just how in-depth the worldview and Bible go. Can you give some insight into... ...how Bible is handled, if you use these programs, and/or ...what worldview they are teaching from? For example, it's hard for me to tell about TOG, it looks like just Bible survey and not actually studying the Bible, maybe its integrated with history? I'm using BF Early America now, but we we move on next year to Ancients or Cultures depending on what I choose. Your wise words are such a blessing to me! Thank You!
  18. Hi There, For next year, I want to have a few subjects that are "open and go" and I'm thinking that math will be one of them. I'm looking at CLE for math; I've had her start taking the diagnostic tests and I'm thinking that she'll be good at the 5th or maybe 6th grade level. I don't mind if she starts a year behind (she'll be in 6th, next year) because I make her do a lot of math...year round. So, by 7th, she would be back at grade level...either way. I'm also thinking of having her do their Bible studies this next year. What do you all think? Can you compare? She's actually fairly good at math, but she just got burned with me trying her on Saxon. SO, I'm thinking that a consumable book with a good foundation.... What do you think??
