My kids are still young, I just like data crunching. http://apreport.collegeboard.org/ The most common score for Calc AB is 1 (31.1%) while the most common score for Calc BC is 5 (45.6%). There was an old thread here that mentioned 1 being the most common score for AP Calculus. Language score (list alphabetically): Chinese - 70.1% score 5, 94.6% score 3 or higher French - 14.2% score 5, 73.3 score 3 or higher German - 18.9% score 5, 74.1% score 3 or higher Italian - 13.6% score 5, 68% score 3 or higher Japanese - 38.2% score 5, 71.9% score 3 or higher Latin - 12.9% score 5, 58.5% score 3 or higher Spanish - 24.5% score 5, 71.8% score 3 or higher
  2. Several places on the College Board site list Chemistry and Spanish as the redesigned courses being launched this year, yet the Course Descriptions for some others (Psych, Geography) say "Effective Fall 2013" on them. Does this not mean they are also new this year?
  3. This article was published in our local paper, and it has me a little confused. "Seniors Ashutosh Jindal, Douglas Chen and Prajit Ramachandran recently learned they earned perfect scores on their AP computer science exams. They are three of only 19 students in the world to earn every point on the test." I guess one does not need a perfect exam to score a 5, but I didn't realize that raw scores were also released. Does the AP let students know how they did on individual problems, other than their 1-5 score?
  4. My son is taking 3 self study AP courses this year. I know that I cannot list the courses on his transcript as "AP" because that is a trademark of the College Board. My question,then, is how do I indicate those courses on his transcript? Also how is credit determined for AP classes? For example, AP micro-economics and AP macro-economics....are they worth 1 credit each? Any help would be appreciated.

Posted on the K-8 board & posting here in case any veterans have any insight :) I have a very science-motivated 6th grade daughter and I'm trying to figure out sequencing of science so she can do AP bio, chem & physics in high school. Her goal is to be an astrophysicist and she wants to go to Harvard or MIT. I'm trying to come up with a way that makes sense to do the next few years of science, so she can take online AP classes in high school (or at a minimum, the AP tests). We're viewing the AP credits as validation of her knowledge, not something that will count as college credit. That said, I'm wondering if we should do a high school level bio or chem for 7th grade, to serve as a first layer in working towards the AP class. I'm not sure what order we should do things in, so any advice or guidance on that, as well as secular high school level curriculum would be greatly appreciated. This is all new to us, and I'm just trying to ensure the timing on everything works out :) Thank you!
  6. I'm considering letting my son self study for US Govt and Politics. I'm looking for folks who have BTDT and who have advice to offer on the choice of our text. There are so many options on the College Board website; I'd like some advice from those who have walked this path. TIA!
  7. Has anyone joined the so-called AP Teacher Community on the College Board website? Is there a quick and easy way to do this? Are homeschoolers excluded from participating?
  8. DS13 is in 7th grade this year. He is taking six online classes, four with VP (Omnibus, Algebra 1, Latin 1, Biology) and two with TPS (English 1, Geography). He is currently in the VP-Diploma program. The year has been intense, but I really wanted to get a feeling for his ability to function in this kind of learning environment during 7th/8th grade, as we intend to outsource a majority of classes for high-school. We will need to keep a couple of parameters in sight when planning high-school, and I am increasingly dubitative about the VP-Diploma for our needs... We live in Europe. Moving in the not too far future (South-Africa) is a possibility, but we want to keep doors to Swiss/European universities wide open. Access to these is highly dependant on AP exams (at least 5 by the end of Junior Year). We will also need to provide an "official" high-school diploma. On the other hand, ds is swimming competitively and dreams of swimming while studying at a college in the US. He will need to pass the NCAA clearinghouse... So, our options as I see them: 1.) Stay with VP This would provide the Diploma & NCAA recognition. On the other hand, I can not immagine how we would integrate the necessary APs... VP seems increasingly rigid about using their online-classes, and frankly, I don't care for ds to graduate with "pass/fail" grades, or an "Assiciate/Standard"-Diploma... Particularly when it comes to AP exams, I want to make sure we go with well-established providers with a proven track record (PA-Homeschoolers, etc.) 2.) Use TPS Diploma program They seem considerably better organized on the AP-side, with, as an added bonus, significantly more flexibility concerning the integration of not-TPS courses. The problem is their lack of NCAA recognition, and I don't see this evolving... 3.) Do our own thing We would organize the diploma "somehow" (homeschool-/transcript service for a fee), pack the necessary number of APs, and groom a (second?) transcript for NCAA... This last solution seems like the most straight forward way to go...apart of me...not.wanting.it. I am literally frozen at the thought of no-one holding my hand, and doing this alone... What if "my diploma" is not good enough? What if we run into trouble with the NCAA? I am almost tempted to just go K12 for the whole shabang...Diploma/APs/NCAA, all included...,but then, I don't really want this either... Any thoughts? Any brilliant Diploma/APs/NCAA-Combos I have not thought about? Thank you for having read this far!
