  1. My husband and I are taking our family on a vacation next year. We have both been out of the country and have always stayed at an all inclusive resort. Pros-all drinks/meals/everything is included. Con-depending on what resort you stay at, there not be many off resort things to see and do(or even if it is safe to do so). And you are only visiting one island.

Cruises. Not to bad for pricing. It is about the same cost EXCEPT no drinks/alcohol is included. But you would be able to visit 3 islands at least. And also have the fun of whatever the cruiseline offers. Airfare is cheaper as you are flying into Florida, rather then out of the country directly.

But I do believe that the cost for the drinks, and any excursions(which I assume is extra) will end up costing more for the cruise.

Is it worth the extra money to take the cruise? Or just stay at an all inclusive resort?(and it isn't a national chain like Sandals or anything like that)

We have never cruised before, so looking to get some feedback,

    Any help/advice would be appreciated.

  2. I live in New England. And I really, really ..REALLY love the summers. I hate the cold and the winter,(someday I will get out of here).

We have a back patio(not enclosed) that I enjoy sitting on during the spring and summer months. Now the weather has dipped to about 50 degrees during the day, and our patio does not get much sun.

I want to be able to sit outside for as long as I can, without freezing.

I have seen patio heaters, and was wondering if that would allow me to sit outside when it gets colder out.

Can anyone give me their experience, and maybe what kind you have?

My patio area is not very big. Total is about maybe 15 ft long by about 10 ft wide. But I only sit at our patio table in a small area.

    Thank you!

  3. I just started with this lovely rollercoaster ride. I am 47. Skipped for 3 months. Got a "hey, here I am and I am going to bleed just enough to annoy you for 3 weeks"............and now I have skipped a month again.

Auntie Flo needs to go. :leaving:

  4. I have heard of Provera.

I know I cannot take ANY BCP pills at all.

This whole thing is just so annoying. That 2 months without a period was like heaven on earth.!

I just know that if I go in on Wed, that is the first thing he is going to want to do. That barbaric uterine biopsy. Ugh.

Getting old sucks. And sometimes being a woman sucks.

  5. This IS a very weird time in life, isn't it? I guess I am just sick of it. LOL...and with having severe health anxiety, it makes it so much worse. My brain goes straight to something horrific. I dont WANT to go in, that's the thing so I wish it would just stop. Logically, I am thinking this has to do with me not having a period for over 2 months.

I did not bleed heavy when I got it. Not at all. Now it is just the annoying spotting and some cramps. I only have to wear a pantyliner. Most of the time the blood is very brown, an sometimes, it can be a rust color.(Sorry if TMI)

I dont have a mom I can ask these questions to. So I am glad I can come here.

    Thank you

  6. I posted before about skipping my period. I am going to be 48.

I didn't get my period at all in June or July(And boy was I happy).

Unfortunately, I started spotting off and on and got my period on August 10. It lasted for 7 days, and it was not as heave as my periods have been in the past. But on day 8 it looked like it was slowing down, spotting like it was coming to an end.

Unfortunately, that is all I have been doing now. Spotting since August 17th.

I broke down and called my GYN, and I have an appt on Wed. I very reluctantly made this appt, because it seems every time I go in and complain about an issue, he automatically wants to do a uterine biopsy(and they are so so painful for me). I have had one done twice. So it scares me.

This has never happened to me where I have spotted this long. And it almost feels like now, that my period may start back up again. I don't know if the spotting going on for so long is due to me skipping two months or not.

I had a full check up back in April, and all was good.

I guess my question is this. Should I be worried that this is something other then perimenopause symptoms, and...what would he do to treat this?

I cannot take any form of BC(High blood pressure and smoker), not even the progesterone only BC pill.(Tried it one time and it was horrific).

I am really not down for surgery at all, very last resort.

Or is this all very normal for someone my age assuming this is perimenopause.?

I have severe health anxiety, so I am hoping it just goes away on it's own. But it's not looking that way.

Has this happened to any of you?

    Thank you.

  7. I am 47. (48 in November). Periods have come every month, although can be different times. Sometimes day 22, up to day 29 for about 2 years now.

I had a normal period beginning of May. 2 weeks later I got it again, but it wasn't like a real period. It was very light. That was on May 23rd.

I haven't had a period since. No signs of getting it either. Not pregnant.

So, it has been a wonderful break. But I am new to all this. Is there any reason why I should see my GYN? I was just there in March. All was fine.

My mother went into menopause at 48. According to her, she got her period as normal, and never got another one. My MIL said the same thing.

I would hate to run to the Dr's every time I skip periods.

    TSH levels are fine.

I am just wondering that when women start going through this, do they see their GYN all the time? Or just ride it out, be happy that you are not getting that dreaded Auntie Flo every month?

    Thanks ladies.

  8. A lot of interesting information was given.

I do know that you need a passport to gain entry into Jamaica. I also know that the country is riddled with drugs. Specifically Marijuana and Cocaine. We were approached several times asking if we wanted any. I didn't think it was a good idea for them to go there to begin with.

As far as the IRS, that could be a possibility.

I guess I will probably never know. I thought if in fact it was a denial, there was a way to appeal it. But I have not really read anything to tell me that they can be denied based only on his past drug arrests.

The Cape is expensive. Only they can drive, instead of fly there.

Thanks for all the info !

  9. Friends of ours were planning on going to Jamaica this month. They were going to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary there. They were actually going to stay at a resort we had recommended.

Anyways, my friend comes in to see my daughter to get her hair done about a month ago, and tells her that they decided not to go because they had to many expenses come up in the meantime, so they are going to visit the Cape instead for a week. The plan is to go to Jamaica next year.

I have been thinking about this, and did some research online. I know that when we filled out our passport application, I believe it asks if you were ever convicted of a felony. Maybe some other things, I can't remember now.

Her husband had been arrested 3 times. All  drug charges.(Not to distribute). The last arrest he was caught stealing a Dr's script pad and writing out a prescription for Oxy. He was caught, and sentenced to jail for 2 years, then he did drug counseling and was on probation.

This was about 5 years ago.

He now has a college degree, and is working as a drug counselor himself.

Does anyone know if you can be denied a passport for that reason? If so, I am thinking maybe she was to embarrassed to say it, and instead just decided to go somewhere else.

And if you can be denied, I wonder if there is a way to appeal it somehow?

    Thanks

  10. My husband and I have traveled to both Jamaica and the Dominican. But both resorts were more geared for adult romantic vacations .

We are looking for a an all inclusive family resort that caters to both adults and older teens(17 yo).

It must , must , have a gorgeous beach with blue water and gorgeous sand . If it does not have a beach like this , we will not consider it .

Also trying to avoid chain resorts such as Sandals or Breezes.

Open to all islands in the Caribbean and will even consider the FL Keyes .

But stressing that the beach must be gorgeous . That is number one priority .

    Thanks so much

  11. Thank you all for your replies. I was more frustrated with myself because I wasn't sure if I was asking the question correctly. But even though I was iron deficient before I never felt bad. I didn't even know it until I had a random blood test. So I think for now, I will cut down on the Ferrous Gluconate. Keep the prenatal. And if I get my period again I will just resume my regular schedule.

Thank you all so very much

  12. If you know your other levels are "perfect," why do you have questions about your iron? Have you had separate (more recent) bloodwork done for those levels?

You should have all those things checked together, if you truly want to reduce the number of times blood must be drawn.

I don't mean to sound argumentative, I just believe no one can give you a safe reply without your being willing to consider that you need some labwork for an accurate answer.

I am questioning my iron because I skipped my period. Which I am sure I will be doing quite a bit as I near menopause. So if my levels were good when I was getting my period, if I take to much iron and I am not bleeding it out, I do not want to overdose. KWIM??? The iron levels will build unless I bleed. That is what I am asking. Women who do not get their periods should not take iron. But I am not menopausal yet, I am skipping them.

Again, thought someone might have been through this. I understand if the hive can't help.

  13. I already had my Hemoglobin tested. It was 12.8. That was in April. I was still getting my period once a month.

My B-12 is fine, my Vitamin D is fine. In the 5 years I have been on iron those have always been good. My ID is due to my periods only.

And I am already taking higher then recommended. As I said, I am taking 324mg of Ferrous Gluconate by script, and pre-natal with 30 mg of iron. But taking all of that has been fine since I was still getting my period once a month. Now I am not. I have not had my period since May 23.

I know there are women out there who take iron for heavy periods, and then start going through the whole skipping of periods as they are nearing menopause. Wondering what these women did. Or what some of you would recommend.

I am not familiar with how long it takes for iron toxicity. I figured I would try and ask here first, thinking someone may have been through the same thing.

    Thank you :)

  14. My Vitamin D is perfect.

    Def not pregnant

I am not asking about B-12 or Vitamin D.

I am taking prescription iron due to my past history of having heavy periods.Nothing else. I have skipped periods before but never this long.

So what I am asking is since I have not had one since May, I am not sure what to do. Keep taking my normal regimen? Just take the pre-natal? And if I start my period, go back on the iron?

Again, I do not want to overdose.

    Thank you :)
