  1. My levels were ok, not great. Trigs were fine. Slightly high LDL, and slightly high total.

But my HDL is really good at 68.

Surprising as I have not had it done in 3 years. But I do not concern myself with cholesterol. I am strongly against it. I will share just one of several reasons why.....it is just one more push to medicate. Statins are a big business in the pharm. community. And they are bad news. I can list several other reasons why I believe cholesterol testing is not necessary, but I don't think I have enough room here................

  2. I heard back from the Dr.........this is what she wrote to me on my patient portal......"I had notified the lab prior to you going there that lipid order was deleted. i have since spoken to the lab and they will delete this as we did discuss this. sorry for the confusion this has caused."

So it was a lab error.

  3. I am not trying to buy any new policies etc.

I have strong feelings about Cholesterol. I disagree that it is an important test. But that is a conversation for another time.

Insurance companies should not have the right to dictate what tests you need to have. And a Dr. should not have the right to order them if the patient refuses. I would think that would be illegal. This was not a drug test........

  4. It may be in fact a lab error. But I don't know this for sure as she has not called me.

The medical assistant called me instead. Trying to tell me this was an insurance company requirement. I don't care what the insurance requires(if in fact this is true)...it was discussed several times with the Dr that I did not want this test performed and it was agreed upon.

Trying to find out if she snuck this in somehow, miscommunication, insurance co requirement............??

No matter what, the test was done. And I can't do anything about it now. Other then not have my insurance company pay. But I have huge trust issues now. And that is a big problem.

I wish she would call me as I want to hear her side of this.

  5. Not having it checked is a personal decision.

The issue here is that I told her I did not want it done, and she agreed. Yet it was done anyways. That is what makes me mad.

A patient has the right to deny testing. Regardless of how the Dr feels about it.

I will be calling the insurance company today though.

  6. I haven't posted here in a while, but I really need to vent..........

So...I went to the Dr on Monday. My regular PCP.

I knew I needed to get a Basic Metabolic Panel to check my kidneys and my potassium levels. She brought up Cholesterol and I said no I wasn't interested. She said that was fine.

Welllll....I check my patient portal yesterday and I see my bloodwork results. Not only my BMP results, but the results of my cholesterol panel.

    I was furious.

When I got my bloodwork done at the lab I even asked again, are you only doing a BMP? And the lab tech said yes.

I call the office yesterday. Told the receptionist that I had UNAUTHORIZED bloodwork done and I want the Dr to call me. She even looks up the order and stated that the only thing she saw the Dr order was a BMP. Said she would have her call me.

This morning the office calls me. It is not the Dr. It is her medical assistant. He is trying to tell me that because it was a physical.....the insurance company REQUIRES is to be done.

So now I am more furious. Tell him it is irrelevant. That the Dr and I discussed it and was agreed upon that I was not going to have this done. Tell him I want the Dr to call me.

I am beyond furious. I am not sure what the Dr is going to tell me, but ......

    Is that even legal?

First, I stated I did not want it done. It was agreed upon. Can it be done behind my back?

If it was miscommunication, I am still upset about this because now I have huge trust issues.

I do not get a lab slip. It gets sent over by computer and the lab is right next door. I don't know if I can get the paper version before I get labwork done again when I go next year.

Again, not sure what Dr is going to tell me even IF she does call me. However, there is a patient portal so I have put this all in writing to her so there is some kind of paper trail.

    What would you do????

  7. Thank you so much ladies for all the suggestions so far.

Sometimes I feel so frustrated and alone with this. It has been a battle for most of my life, But the anxiety has become worse as I have gotten older. I am just trying to stay away from SSI/SSRI meds, and try other things.

  8. Currently, I am on 20 mg of Prozac. This is my second go round with it. I gained 25 pounds the last time I was on it. Came off and dropped the weight. Thought I would try again, but no such luck. I have gained 18 pounds while on it. No matter what I do, the weight will not come off when on this med.

I have been on several other medications. All with some kind of side effect. I am getting tired of the medication run around.

I am looking for something natural. I am on other medications(BP meds, Ativan, and Prilosec).........so I have to be careful what I take so it does not interact.

I already know about exercising, coloring, etc etc....But my anxiety is pretty bad, or it can be pretty bad at times.

    Any suggestions?

  9. Thank you all so very much!

We are re-thinking about the time of year to go. Also, maybe we will stay in SF and make the drive to Santa Rosa.

I know CA is very, very expensive. Not to much unlike where I live unfortunately. I have been researching places to stay and at least I am not in total shock!

The biggest thing *I* am going to hate is the flight. I hate to fly. And I know this is a long flight. I have only traveled to the Caribbean, and non stop it is only 3 1/2 hours. The only good thing is.... it is not an international flight.

I will probably be back with more questions, but thank you again to all of you for the great info!

  10. Yes, we would be flying in to Santa Rosa.

We are open to anything. We love the ocean, water sports, museums, and food is always a given!

I understand that the Safari is really only a one day thing. So to fly out just for that would be foolish. We would make the most of the time we were there. That is great about SF only being an hour away. I would love to go there as well. I have never been to CA or out west ever. Or my girls. My DH was in San Louis O Bisbo(SP?) for the military years ago.

Are there any specific places you would suggest? Or a nice hotel nearby to the Safari(I know they have accommodations there. But not sure if we want to stay there for the duration.

Since you say the weather is nice(no snow LOL) I was thinking of possibly November. ?

    and......

J-Rap, thank you so much for the offer!

    Thanks so much ladies!

  11. We are thinking about taking our 17 yo dd there. She loves zoology. I have never been to California(out of the country but never to CA!).

If anyone lives in the area or has been to this place, could you give me your thoughts?

What is the weather like out there?

What is there to do there besides the Safari?

I understand it is wine country. But my dd is only 17.

We are on the East coast so this would be a very long flight to only spend a few days there. We would stay about 6 days.

    Thank you!

  12. Well. I do hope they both change their minds. I know they are young. I am still going to hold out hope for the youngest though :)

I know there are a lot of programs I can be involved with. And this will be our plan should we never have any grandchildren. I had a wonderful grandmother with so many fond memories. And I would love to do the same. My husband would make a wonderful grandfather.

    I guess time will tell............

  13. I respect my children's choices. It is their life, and not mine. I have not expressed any disappointment to them in their decision.  Only to my husband. I just want my children to be happy, in whatever they choose. It is not about me, it is about them and their happiness.

I do agree that things could change. I still have a younger child.

But, if I do not have any grandchildren of my own, I am certainly going to look into getting involved n some kind of a adopt a grandchild type program.

I think I just had this big vision of having a lot of grandkids to spoil :)

  14. Is there anyone here who is not a grandparent, and knows they will never be one?

How did it make you feel when your child/children said they would never have any kids of their own?

I have two older children. A son who is almost 26, and a daughter who is 23. My 23 yo is very, very, very adamant that she will never have any children. At first I thought it was just a phase, as she has stated this since she has been about 16 yo. But now I know it is not. I know that this is what is right for her, but I admit I am disappointed.

My son right now, has stated he does not want to get married. And no kids. That "might" change, but I doubt it.

I do have a younger daughter who is 17. She is young yet, so who knows what might happen with her.

I love kids. I always looked forward to being a grandparent. I had wonderful grandparents. Unfortunately, my kids did not.

My 23 yo daughter loves kids. She is a dance teacher. She just does not want any of her own.She admits she is selfish, and wants to live her own life and not be tied down with a child.

My son has not really given me a reason for his choices. But it is his choice.

We are a very close family, and as far as I know, my kids had a great childhood.

I guess I am just sad seeing all my kids friends grown now, and married with kids. And I see the proud grandmothers!

It seems like all the grandmothers all brag about their grandchildren. I guess I am selfish and want those bragging rights as well. Does that sound bad????

Just looking for input from those who do not, and will not ever have any grandchildren and how you felt about it.

  15. Ballet is the foundation for all styles of dance.

Ballet is all about proper posture, balance and discipline. Someone who has osteo, or any kind of back issue should get clearance from their physician first. But most will say it is a very good idea.

For adults. Normally there is not a dress code, other then shorts and a tank top. I would not invest in ballet slippers until you know you like it. In the meantime, you can wear socks. Or even barefoot.

I took ballet for about a year in my adult years. Personally, it wasn't for me. I prefer Lyrical.

I would absolutely give it a try!!!

  16. I think I am going to be shopping around and looking at different cruise lines. I have a friend who went on Princess and loved it as well.

Although that Costa Rican trip sounds pretty inviting. I may look into that as well.

I know with having the internet these days, it should make things easier. But sometimes, it just makes my head spin all the way around.

  17. That's interesting about Carnival. I guess I was under the assumption that it was geared for small kids. Our kids are older(23 and 17). Good tip about 2 rooms. I never thought about the bathroom issues.

I might look into Royal Caribbean and Princess as well.

We are not huge alcohol drinkers, but would be nice to have soft drinks and bottled water.I don't trust the water anywhere out of the country)

We were thinking of going beginning of March. I guess some schools could be having their Spring Break then.

  18. The one we went to in the Dominican is Lifestyles Resort. This is the one we would like to bring the kids to.

The one in Jamaica was Jewel Paradise Cove. This is adults only.

Loved both of them. Both all inclusive.

Lifestyles is a timeshare. They will try and sell you one, but there is no pressure. We didn't buy into it as we do not go there often enough.
