  1. Just put mine up...after a storm we had this weekend.
  2. I am a volleyball coach, and I can't believe your dd has 6am practice. Is it for the entire season? I have seen other coaches do it for a week or two for preseason, but we don't even do that. None of our coaches want to get up that early either!

  4. I just put ours up... http://ourclassicalchaos.blogspot.com/2010/08/weeks-4-5.html
  5. My dd turns 5 in a couple months, but we are doing some K work. Math - Singapore Earlybird K Phonics - OPG and Explode the Code 1 Handwriting - Zaner-Bloser K Geography - learn about a different country every week (Galloping the Globe -ish) Science - Sonlight Science K And we are doing a theme every week that my ds2 can do with us. This includes read alouds and art projects. Oh and for read alouds we are using a mix of Sonlight P3/4 and P4/5 with whatever additions I come across. :001_smile: We do school everyday for about an hour or so, except Wednesday is light since my dc have swimming.
  6. Here is a link to our week 3... http://ourclassicalchaos.blogspot.com/2010/08/week-3.html
  7. I found out about it in the Peace Hill Press catalog that I received about a month ago. I think I am planning to use it!
  8. The schools in my city started July 26. I don't mind it though, since it is so much nicer to shop and go to museums and the library without all of the extra people around. :001_smile:
  9. Here's the link to our week 2... http://ourclassicalchaos.blogspot.com/2010/08/week-2.html
  10. Earlier today, I saw a 24x36" at Costco for $25. Very good deal, but I don't know that I want one quite that big. I was looking for AAS too. Costco is the first place I have looked, so I will be interested to see the other responses.
  11. We just started K4 too! This is our second week. I really like what you are doing with responsibility, and I may need to incorporate a little more of that into my dd's school day. :)
  12. That seems reasonable. We pay $55/month for one 30 minute class a week. There is a max of 3 kids per class. I think it is a little pricey, but it is indoor and the instructors are really, really good. And they have a nice place for the parents to sit and watch. :)
  13. I really like Abeka math. I'm not planning on using anything else from Abeka, just because I have found other programs that I think will be more interesting. I grew up doing all Abeka, and I had a good education (I got into a good college) so I don't think it is a bad curriculum. I want my kids to have more of a classical education, and Abeka does not provide that with history and science.
  14. My dd just started K this week, so obviously this is not something that has worked for us long term. I don't know how old your kids are, but I am starting out with fun, then doing the core stuff (reading, math, phonics), and then we go back to fun again. Snack time usually happens after that, followed by science, geography, art...so kind of fun still. So far, it is working great (the whole 3 days that we have been doing it)!
  15. I just started my blog so there are only a few posts, but we are doing Pre-K/K this year. I think I have my blog under my name, but just in case it is... www.ourclassicalchaos.blogspot.com.
  16. I just got my ds this Melissa & Doug pattern block set, and he loves it. I only let him play with it when his sister is doing school, so it keeps him busy and he is learning. Can't beat that!
  17. We just started K today, and so far so good.:001_smile: We are doing: Math - Singapore Earlybird B Phonics - Explode the Code Reading - OPGTTR Science - Sonlight Science K Read Alouds - a mixture of Sonlight P3/4 & P4/5 We are doing a theme each week that includes art, read alouds and music that I am just coming up with myself. And we are lightly learning about a different country each week, Galloping the Globe style.
  18. We are doing: Math, Reading, Phonics, Science - Mon - Fri Geography - Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri Art - Friday Music - Monday Handwriting - Tues and Thurs Swimming - Wed
  19. We are starting K as well, and it depends what subject if I am going ahead and planning in advance. With math, phonics and reading, I am taking a wait and see approach. I don't know how she will progress with these, so I don't want to write too much down. I am doing it a week at a time. We are doing geography this year where we study a different country every week (very light). I am planning all of this out. I am also doing a theme every week (more for my toddler), and I am planning that out as well for the year. I think writing too much out can put too much stress on you as the teacher, since it will feel like you have to get that accomplished. At least that is how it makes me feel! I can be a lot more go with the flow if I don't have a set plan that we need to have our phonics book done by Oct, for example. Good luck!
  20. It is really nice to see that not combining works for so many people. We haven't started history or science yet since my dd will just be starting K in the fall, but the idea of combining just doesn't sit right with me for some reason. I want ds to do the 4 year cycle from the beginning, not just tagging along with his sister wherever she is in the process.
  21. I haven't yet, but I'm planning to. I looked quickly at the first two units awhile back, and it seemed like SOTW was listed as an alternate every week. I like them both so much I just couldn't choose. :001_smile:
  22. I just got mine! I forgot how big it is.
