  1. Just an idea- sinus issues/swelling can cause tooth pain. Twice now over the years I’ve take kids or myself to the dentist with a bad toothache only to be told the teeth/gums all look fine. Took some Sudafed upon her recommendation and toothache went away.

  2. I see my daughter in this, and I’ve been trying to coach her on initiating.  It does not come natural at all.  She loves when friends invite her to things, or to talk, but is not confident enough perhaps to do the inviting.  Or to just reach out without a ‘purpose’ in mind.
Her best friend right now is one I kind of pushed her to initiate contact with last summer, so she sees the value and how it works.
It just is not her personality though. She’s a good friend to those that include her, but she’s definitely not a social butterfly type comfortable with reaching out. I’m trying to help her work on this before college because many people would view her as you perhaps do your friend.  And she’s a super sweet kid who loves her friends, but is not socially adept.

so if if isn’t a hardship, I would say to keep initiating with your friend.  She may really really appreciate it as she shows by accepting your offers.  Maybe you can say - hey I’d love it if you gave me a call next week- and see if that direct prompt helps.

@matrips Did you pay for expedited service? Do you know which location processed your applications?

I'm also stalking the status page. Our applications are 6 weeks out and 4 weeks out, and we paid for expedited service. Still in progress on both.

    Regular processing.  Miami.

  4. My kids’ status just changed to shipped.  Yay!  I‘ve been stalking that status page. Lol.
In person application on Feb 1.  Showed received/processing Feb 8. Ready to ship Mar 21. So less than 6 weeks for processing.

  5. I would think about than 10 days worth of clothes, with the plan to do laundry once a week.  If my kids have more clothes, they spill out of the hamper onto the floor with no urgency to launder them.  So less is better for mine. Mostly shorts and tees. A couple polos, khakis, and a suit/tie. A few hoodies/quarter zip type things. We can always send more once they find out what they actually wear.
So 3 mattress toppers/quilt /sheets/towels/hampers/toiletries/kitchen basics plus 3x 10 days of clothes should pack the car pretty well 😄  They can settle in and then see what they’re missing.

Entire system is nuts. I know CA schools are experimenting with solutions but I really wish they would focus also on equal funding of elementary schools and making sure class sizes are truly capped. I don’t think one needs an electronic whiteboard in every classroom or super expensive textbooks with online components (Catholic schools have done just fine with paper, pencil, and a chalkboard), but you do need kids with full stomach, a small class size and a well trained teacher. If we really focused on that, we might have a very different conversation 20 years down the line.

I think the lack of discipline and accountability is the biggest issue.  You can have a large class and kids can still learn if the focus is on learning. That’s why private and charter schools have the advantage.  They can say no to the disruptive or violent behavior and keep the focus on learning better.

My kids are in private school and even some of the regular (non-AP) classes drive them nuts because of silly distracting behavior and kids that just don’t care as much about being there. Yes, the teachers squash it, but it still prevents focus and takes the teachers time.  And therefore the other students. I can’t imagine what it’s like in some schools. Fix the discipline and I think it would fix much of the outcomes.

Not Scarlett, obv, but I sometimes use this powder in between coloring and it works great:

Clairol Root Touch Up Concealing Powder

For me, it's easier than spray to get it exactly where I want it and it's never stiff.

My hair grows in so fast that lately I've been coloring it every week and a half with this:

L'Oreal Magic Root Rescue 10 Minute Coloring Kit

It is *so* much easier and quicker to use than my usual at home color, and I find that there is enough in the bottle to cover the roots all over my head. Once every 4-6 months I do my whole head with a regular box, but I really like this product for keeping up with the grays. My stylist SIL says that whatever I'm using, I should keep using. 🙂

    Sorry for the rabbit trail.

Thanks.  I do have a concealing powder but I think I have the wrong color and need a darker one because it gives me a two toned look. Yes, the Root Rescue is awesome! It does a good job. I just wish my gray didn't start appearing a week after coloring my hair.

I only spray it on the top of my head after about four weeks. And then I only use it when I’m going somewhere that I care. I run my hands through my hair a lot when it’s not in braids, and I hate the way the spray feels. But it does the trick as far as lengthening the time between a visits to the hairdresser.

Thanks, but drat!  That's the one I have. lol. I was hoping for a nice soft feeling one. 🙂

In between on days I feel like I look too skunky I use the spray stuff for my skunk line.  It is really amazing

Can you take a pic of the brand of spray you use?  I tried a spray-on color once and it left my hair so stiff and unnatural.
I use Madison Reed and it seems to work well but my grey hair grows in so fast.  Need to cover around my forehead/ears/part line. Thanks

  10. My kids are trying the roommate matching on their schools housing site.  There’s about 12 questions with answers to select- time you sleep, wake up, okay to leave dishes in sick overnight, like to keep neat and clean, smoking, drinking, overnight guests, how often be in the room, frequent friends/company, emotional support pets, stuff like that.  Plus they can write a little bio and say something about themselves.  The system orders your matching roommates by a percentage of how close your answers match.  Then you can contact a potential roommate through the portal email system. And create a roommate group if you want.  It takes the emotion out of the process and has them focus on compatibility.  Still in the process so we’ll see how it goes.  Lol.  Sounds good on paper! 🙂

  11. When I was in this phase, I cooked a full regular meal earlier, put it in individual Tupperware type stuff and then my kids ate in the car heading from one thing to another. There was no way I wanted to cook at 8 or 9pm.  So if I picked them up at swim, I’d have all the food with me and they’d eat on the way to baseball.

  12. I never heard of one.  Went to plenty of showers and they were all typical registry stuff, plus a nice nightgown/robe maybe from the mom.  Is this regional or more modern or ? I’m in my 50’s.

okay I see it’s a zombie thread but I still want to know!! lol

  13. Trio did their adult passport applications, so in person.  Dd on 1/31.  Status is still unavailable, and after being on hold for 3 hours today with that phone number, the guy said he couldn’t find any record of it either in his system.  Went to check further, and then click. Got disconnected 😭.  3 hours!!

the boys went on 2/1 to the passport office, a day after dd, and the status shows received as of 2/8.

I won’t be calling back 😂.  Guess we’ll just hope stuff shows up someday in the mail 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

  14. I missed earlier posts on what the issues are, but there are some long term couples that live next door to each other, and not with each other.  My dhs relative has been with the same guy for probably 30 years, and they lived next door to each other for most of that.  They weren’t seeing anyone else, they just needed that extra space.  They do live in the same house now but their rooms are on opposite sides.  Lol.  It works for them.  Anyway, just trying to say that staying together but living separately can be a thing.  Staying together doesn’t have to necessarily mean living in the same house.

  16. So mine seem to be committed to UCF! They actually decided awhile back, but I was always leaving room for them to change their minds. I still can’t get over how easy they made this process for me 🙂 All going to the same university, and just a couple hours from home.

Every visit and open house we find more and more to like about UCF (Univ of Central Florida). And now some bragging, please don’t mind!  I’m just so excited for them. All three are confirmed National Merit Finalists, and with the generous NMF scholarships in Florida, will actually get paid to attend college. Woohoo! A dream come true! They also get guaranteed on campus housing if they want it for their time there (which is huge to have in that area), or they can use the money off-campus.  Their on campus dorm will be a 4 br, 2ba apt with full kitchen, close to everything. The current plan is to move into it in August and move out in 4-5 years.  They can keep the same room if they want so no need to ever move out. And they will be in the small Burnett Honors College (around 500 freshman and 2000 overall, so less than 3% of the school), and the even smaller Leadership Scholars cohort.
They only applied to 3 schools- UCF, USF, and UA. USF actually gave them more money on top of the NMF, and they got UAs top scholarship, so good options.

I love that we can visit easily. I already bought our season football tickets.  😊

I appreciate all opinions on this. It's not like I was planning to pounce on her right away about it. I'm still not sure I'll bring it up at all. If the topic ever does come up, I feel better about how to approach the topic from reading all the responses here.

From what little I have read on the subject, most women are able to breastfeed afterward.

My main concern at this point is potential permanent damage like Terabith mentioned. I just remember how uncomfortable I was during those years of bf'ing. I did have back pain, and chest wall inflammation that could be extremely painful at times. She doesn't have any pain yet--that I know of, so she has time.

You know your dd best, but with mine I would say something as poster above suggested.  I noticed you crossing your arms and remembered you once asked about reduction.  If you’re interested in learning more, or talking to a doctor, let me know.  I say this because with my dd- sometimes if she says something once and doesn’t get a reaction or followthrough or whatever, she assumes it’s not allowed or a No and won’t ask again.  Drives me nuts.  Because she’ll assume she asked when all she may have done was mention it in an off hand way.
