  1. Since the air conditioner is not working, that's who you call. 10 years tends to be about the life of an a/c (at least where I live). A whole new one was $13,000 a couple years ago. Best wishes!
  2. Heat index ("feels like" temperature) well over 110 every day this week. It's disgusting outside. How is everyone's weather?
  3. I have never been taught what to do. People pass by both ways here. It hasn't occurred to me to care.
  4. If he applied at usajobs.gov, he would have a big leg up since he is a veteran (you mentioned VA money).
  5. Yes, I suppose that's correct. I think that it's anywhere from $50 to $250 when I go to my dermatologist every few years to get things removed. Sometimes things are frozen, sometimes I am injected with numbing stuff, and they are removed. It doesn't seem that expensive for a medical procedure but ymmv.
  6. Paint the cabinets and get new hardware, and I think it could look stunning. You might not even notice that gap at the top any more.
  7. I think it is time. I’m so sorry.
  8. Gently, if you are not willing to let this be a superficial catch-up chat, you may lose her. Forever. Some times things are insurmountable and must be ignored or swept under the rug and just moved past. If you want a relationship.
  9. American Eagle is fairly expensive but much cheaper at Plato’s Closet thrift store. And they carry tons. Outlets are also good.
  10. Vans shoes. Adidas or Nike hoodies. American Eagle jeans. Lululemon shorts or yoga pants. Teva sandals. Eta: oh, but my dd is 22 not a teen. Oops.
  11. Duluth Trading makes women’s “adjustabust” high impact bra with sewn in cups. My current favorite.
  12. I would have him move it to the right location and then finish it. I would appreciate what he's done so far. I would discuss with him what I'd like to look different and if that is a viable possibility based on what is now done. He is doing it for me, and I appreciate that.
  13. So it's a year away, and so it might not even come to fruition. However, I feel you on the 10 hour thing. Since they have a support system of sorts in their current location, and it's more people than just one (you), and the drive to your location would be so horrific, I would leave them in their current location. Also, a thing to check on... in my dad's assisted living place, they will not make a person leave if they run out of funds. Something covenant something. They will keep them.
  14. Do they still do gas permeable contacts? Those worked great for me in my younger days. My vision was similar to your daughter’s and I have an astigmatism. or embrace glasses, ha ha, until you’re old enough for cataract surgery.
  15. Okay, I didn’t realize the Rogue was in such bad shape. That changes my answer. Don’t throw any more money at it. Get rid of it, getting as much money as you can for it. Sell him your truck. Even blue book for it is probably a lot less than he would pay right now for a used car at a car lot.
  16. In that situation, I would replace the transmission and use that car for myself. Give mom back her car. Continue to work on the insurance thing.
  17. I would cancel the interview rather than wasting my time. Was that a typo, about throwing the interview?
  18. I'm not worried. I take it into consideration. I'm aware of the need to possibly move north some day. I live on the southern coast of Texas. We are 9 feet above sea level. We live in an apartment, so moving would be easier than if we had to worry about selling a house. I see climate change in our weather all the time, but so far it's been kind of fun, which is an odd thing to say. We are a location of hundred year snow, but we got snow twice in twelve years lately. And while our summers are horribly hot, we have had the nicest fall, winter, and spring this year. It feels like old times. I know that the hurricanes, which are our big problem, are more intense now, but for some reason, we rarely get a direct hit where I live. And we see them coming, so can evacuate.
  19. Stopped reading most of the news. That's very recent. Some of the recent topics are very triggering for me, and I will just brood on them all day long. So I had to remove myself from those topics. Only happy, fluffy, or local news for me for the most part. My mental health is better for it. We downsized from a house to an apartment two years ago. So freeing! That house felt like a trap. Endless projects, neighborhood going downhill. So glad to be out of there! And if we want to move now, we just end our lease and hire some movers. No worry about finishing endless projects and getting the house ready for sale and all that. And I'm finally getting my eyes fixed! This is the year to attend to my early onset cataracts. First two appointments out of the way, on track for surgery this summer!
  20. I have a very visual kid. In high school, this meant using very visual resources. Graphic novel versions of classic literature were great. The Graphic Canon books tailor nicely to chronological history/corresponding literature, although you absolutely have to go through them with a black sharpie and maybe rip out a page here or there. We tended to use more living books for science if we couldn’t find heavily illustrated textbooks. For history, we supplemented with Horrible Histories videos. Just really lean in to the visual.
  21. I love high waisted jeans and pants because my waist is high. Empire waist dresses hit me pretty much at my natural waist. Mom jeans all the way!
