  1. Thanks all for the info. at least it isn't sounding as bad as I feared. It would be so helpful to figure out the better/easier districts! Anyone here in Quincy, Weymouth, Braintree, Milton, or Dorchester. These are all possibilities.
  2. Thanks, I did sign up for the Yahoo group. The state regs don't seem any worse than NY, my real concern is the fact that individual districts can set their own requirements- in NY, by law they can't do this, many try, but it is not legal in NY. How do I figure out what each district requires? We would most likely be able to choose between 3-4 areas, so I would want to make the best choice possible.
  3. My family is considering a move to the Boston Area (Quincy) MA, Spring/Summer. We currently home school in NY. We have always home schooled so I don't wish to consider Public School. Laws in NY are strict, but MA actually looks worse. I would like to hear from people who are homeschooling in MA, particularly if anyone is in Quincy. I know regulations can very by district, which is what scares me the most! Any help/advise would be appreciated!
  4. I love the book " Everyday Paleo" for Gluten -free recipes. There is also a specific cook book out now "Everyday Paleo Cookbook" Practical easy recipes!
  5. I just started the Whole 30 about 2 weeks ago, I am loving it! The book Everyday Paleo has some great recipes! They are practical, no crazy ingredients. I made some Garden veggy meatballs from the book, made plenty extra to heat up during the week. Also for breakfast, scrambled egg muffins (add lots of veggys) are great to make ahead and re-heat.
  6. This year we are using Real Science 4 Kids, Chemistry Level II. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for a prepackaged science kit they have used to go with this curriculum? There wasn't a kit sold with it, so I am trying to fine a good fit for us. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
  7. I bought both my boys a Well Planned Day Student Planner, so assignments can be given to them and checked off, in an attempt to make them a little more independent:glare: I also have binders for each where I will keep samples of their work like a portfolio.(I keep one every year)
  8. We used TT7 this past year, and I did have my ds use the printed book, as well as CD's, 1st it was a back up copy in case you loose info online(which did happen to us), and I think it helps retain the material learned, just my opinion. We will be using both TT& and Pre-algrebra this next fall, and I will have workbooks for both.
  9. Wow, what a fun thread, so many talented people on here! I have 2 shops on ETSY, I sell hand knitted/felted gifts on 1, and handcrafted BEER Soaps (yes beer, they are made with a liquid base of beer to start) on the other. Here are links; http://www.etsy.com/listing/97512438/blueberry-blonde-ale-beer-soap?ref=pr_shop http://www.etsy.com/listing/91885867/unique-buttoned-scarfcowl
  10. Thank you for the suggestions, they all look good. I think my boys would really enjoy Mapping the World with Art, they both love to draw.
  11. My 2 ds are going to be 6th and 8th grades next year. We have done the whole cycle of History, Ancients- Modern, American, and State History. I feel as though Geography keeps getting missed. We do it a little with other programs, but nothing in depth. I am considering just doing geography for History this year. Trying to find a good comprehensive program, any suggestions? I did see Mapping the World by Heart which looked interesting.
  12. We decorate inside as much as we can, outside not at all except wreath on door. Outside decorations are costly especially with the electricity they take, so this is where we have had to cut back.
  13. We are actually looking at the new Kindle Fire for my 10 & 12 yr old ds for Christmas, they are $199, but they basically have everything an ipad has, but are smaller(so easier to take places) and much cheaper!! If I only wanted the book reader for them, I would go with the basic Kindle for $
  14. This is my shop on Etsy, so of course it's my favorite! http://www.etsy.com/people/StaceyLeighDesigns?ref=si_pr I sell hand knit/felted gifts, and handmade beer soaps!
  15. I usually go against the norm with shower gifts and get something for mom specifically instead of a "baby gift". For example a bath and body basket for a little pampering (she's going to need it!) or maybe go in with someone else and get her a gift certificate for a message so she will have a little escape down the road. Just a suggestion.:001_smile:
  16. We are going this weekend, this looks like a great family friendly movie!!
  17. For purchasing supplies check out Etsy, I have found beautiful wool roving (for needle felting) and yarns at good prices. They have yarns I can't get here locally!
  18. :grouphug: When I start thinking of putting the kids into public school (which happens every year, usually around the end of January), I ask myself will public school really be easier? Kids coming home with 2-3 hours of home work (which I would need to supervise), school activities, fundraisers, etc. Most importantly to me by the time they are done with school and homework there is very little family time! Maybe back off a little on work load and build up gradually if things seem too much for the kids and you? I start off the year slowly and build, and when I am feeling overwhelmed we slow down a little and build again. Hope thing get better soon!
  19. For those of you who have ordered from the Teaching Textbooks web site, was shipping quick?
  20. :ack2: Sorry, big NO. I have had food poisoning so I am super careful!!
  21. Yes I have bought through Curr Click many times, I was just hoping someone could recommend a specific 1 as there seem to be a few?
