Interactive Latin websites to accompany texts?
tedearly replied to In The Great White North's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Great site. -
Or if Wide Guide Spelling Protestant. I wonder if this site is a place Catholics can belong or are just tolerated.

Howdy- I did a side by side comparison of LoF to both Dolciani and Frisk's book. Forrester wasn't as in depth according to one math chair as Dolciani so I didn't look at it. LoF had more topics covered than both books combined. Remains to be seen if it is a deep. I am also supplementing with Pearson at least to Chap 5 for alg. proofs.

Question about adding CWP to rest of Singapore
tedearly replied to Matryoshka's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Howdy, I put in CWP. IP whenever I feel there is a fit. Maybe there is extra time or need for review more in depth. I do like having the A books done by Christmas and the B books done by Memorial Weekend, our cutoff date for the summer. -
Howdy, Twins are on track to transition into all boys high school so I wanted a curriculum that would allow that. I have chosen LOF, with Dolciani, Pearson and Frisk as additional material if needed. I honestly thought I would do NEM after Singapore as I have so enjoyed it with DD so far.
-
Howdy, We start home schooling academics after Labor Day. I am so looking forward to LOF. It still seems too good to be true.

Howdy, I taught DD, 7yrs, explicit phonics, all 71 sounds. It wasn't until later we named them or then categorized vowels/constants. She reads at the 6th grade level McGuffey reader Vol 5, spells 4.6 Wise Spelling, easily does Shurley grade 2. IMHO, sounds are much more important than names.

Thanks for Stan's quotes.

Howdy, At first I set the timer so as not to over work DD. Then as she matured, I still kept 30 min max, then added a concept at a time unless she needed more review right then. So I would add in IP or CWP. If she didn't, I would save some of this review work for Fri. I like Fridays being testing day. It sums up the material every 4 days, it allows for assessments becoming normative, and it makes for an easy Fri. Afterwards, we would meet an older DD at Starbucks for coffee. DD then would bring her puzzle books- Suduko, Critical Thinking, Workbooks from recent trips, etc, and she woudl sip her lemonade while I chatted with oldest DD. With the twins home nest year, I will need to rethink this habit.

Oxford, Cambridge, Ecce Romani
tedearly replied to Robin in Tx's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Howdy, Take the post for whatever it is worth. I used Oxford, online course out of Univ of NC. Teacher moved form site and I didn't follow up next year reading Caesar. I covered through lesson 47 in Book 3. Minimum 1.5 hrs/day. Best investment of my time. Easily a 3 yr coverage of material in 1 yr. I have MODG Syllabus for Lat 3, and it is a review for what I learned as a point of reference. DS, in high school, used Cambridge. We would study together at times. My online teacher was his high school teacher for Lat 1. Teacher said Cambridge moves slower than Oxford when I was puzzled by DS progress. Additionally, I liked the layout of Oxford. Cambridge caused my eyes to glaze over. However, I had many, many resources to use in addition to Oxford. I quickly outpaced my son, which was fun. HTH. -
Jacob's Geometry - scheduling question

Thanks, Angie. -
Ordered mine. Singapore is a good site to post ?

Might actually have to get the HIG. Haven't seen the need yet but we are starting grade 3 this fall.

Found a Allen/Pearson Teacher's Key Book for Alg 1. Hopefully, I can pull questions just from the key. Krickenberger/Pearson/Welchons Alg 2 Annotated Edition (Teacher's Ed) This is really too much fun. Got to draw a line and just review these books. Wait until I start Geometry hunts.

Gratis. Off to the hunt.

Howdy, I also sent a direct email to Mrytle and DH's high school math teacher who used Leithold and Spivak for Calculus. I hope all is well with Myrtle. Tomorrow, I will look up those sources mentioned. Keep the info coming. The time devoted to proofs would be about 10 minutes. Not a lot of time by any means but every day, each week it would add up to a particular way of thinking. DD is doing Mind Benders 1A and loves them. She does Suduko fairly well and this is more of the same thinking. Her mind works easier than mine in a fundamental way because she started younger than I.

Howdy, I meant the properties of the real number field, which is algebraic, not geometric, when I used the term field axiom. Myrtle posted a list of 11 of them and I remember learning them in school. LoF doesn't cover them as theoretically as I would like. It wouldn't be a main part, just a warm up exercise. Thank you for your response.

After much consideration from a variety of angles, we have decided to use Life of Fred, Beg. & Adv Algebra as our spine with Mary Dolciani 1989 teacher's edition along with Gustafson/Fisk as supplement when needed this coming school year. I would also like the twins as part of their warm up to their Math lesson, to do a proof a day, 4/week. Could you kindly suggest a text that has worked out solutions that would be appropriate? Learning their field axioms as they work through the proofs would be the goal. They have been in a private all boys school here in town, and if I told you the serious gaps in their language arts background you would gasp. And with what we paid, I faint. Their math knowledge is a bit better but only because of them, I think. So one of the appeals of LoF was the linguistic approach. Another was the ease of use. Their egos needed a boast without being soft academically. However, when I compared the topics covered, LoF covered more than Dolciani and G/F combined. I do not want a mile wide and an inch deep, hence the other texts if needed. Also if we are covering field axioms, almost like a parallel track, this should suffice certainly in comparison to the peers. There is a strong possibility they will transition back into a traditional school environment in 2 years for high school, so I talked to the high school's math chair to determine the scope of the math program. They use Dolciani, albeit a new version, so that has been my standard for conceptual learning. I would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions if possible.

Howdy, DD, Tx would call her entering 2nd grader (7yr Sep BD) she finished 2b in April. As we end formal hsing Memorial Weekend, we spent all of May reviewing, CWP, IP, test books, math drills, paraquatry blocks, puzzles, math games, Tangoes,, etc... A year ahead was plenty for me. Her brothers will be doing LoF for 7th grade algebra, supplemented where needed.
