  1. Once Upon a Time is my favorite current TV show. I am somewhat interested in the upcoming Kevin Bacon series on Fox, "The Following." It looks pretty intense, though. Guess I'll just have to wait and see!
  2. I voted to keep everyone at home. Now, I will confess to being, as my ds9 describes me, a "germaphobe freak." That being said, however, I am sure that it's best to keep anyone who's been exposed to flu at home.
  3. I have GTG. I am using it with ds9 after CTC.
  4. What do you like/recommend? She has had two years of Latin already. Thanks!
  5. Bumping my old thread....now that we've started planning threads for next year, I'm hoping for some input here. :tongue_smilie:
  6. Saxon Math 8/7 Oak Meadow Ancient Civilizations/English 6 Oak Meadow Life Science 6 Co-op literature class and theater class Not sure what we're using for foreign language yet
  7. Saxon Math 6/5 Cantering the Country (this will serve as our geography, history, science, art, & music spine) Co-op Literature Class, not sure what else will be offered at co-op Possibly Prima Latina, still undecided on that
  8. I voted for Amir. I think it's beautiful. Plus, I'm always calling ds9 my prince, so this one really spoke to me.
  9. Scroll down and you'll see a list of living books for explorers here: http://www.design-your-homeschool.com/Living-Books-history.html
  10. I hope you all have a great first day!
  11. We had a similar situation this year with several friends moving, so joined a local co-op group. We love it. Look to see if there's something similar in your area.
  12. Ugh...it's 73 degrees here...south Alabama. I am envious of you cold weather/real winter gals!
  13. My little one has special needs, which prevents our family from doing some things. We still participate in a weekly co-op, so that's the one extra thing we're doing right now. I stay with my little one in the nursery while my older children go to their classes. It is an all day thing every Monday. That is all I can do right now, but it's okay. I used to feel "mommy guilt," but I've learned to let it go. My older children are also learning eternal and valuable lessons, such as compassion and sacrifice. Perhaps in a few years my dd4 will be at a developmental stage that will allow us to do more, but until then, this is just our current season of life. So, just do what you can. Your kids will be fine.
  14. Ages 5-8: Five in a Row...my kids LOVED it, and so did I. Right now I'm using Further Up and Further In (unit study using The Chronicles of Narnia) with ds9 and it is a lot of fun. In fact, it is my favorite year...so far! He is having a blast with it as well. I'm also enjoying Oak Meadow Preschool with dd4. It is gentle and fun. I am hoping that next year, when I will use Oak Meadow Sixth Grade with my dd12, will be fun. She is using another curriculum this year, and she is not enjoying it.
  15. We have decided to go with 6. I really want to ease dd12 into the transition from SL to OM. When I showed her the OM samples, her face lit up and she said, "Now that's for me!" :hurray: Now I'm hoping her enthusiasm never wanes!!!!
  16. I don't have to cook tonight. Hubby is picking up Mexican food for dinner!

  17. I am in tears. I just watched the video. It really touched my mama heart. My oldest son, who is in the Army Infantry, recently returned from Afghanistan. He is asking the very same question that Mrs. Lowry's son did. My dd12 will start reading The Giver next week as part of her co-op literature class. I, too, will be reading it...with fresh eyes and thoughts. Thank you for posting the link.
  18. Here is ours: http://freeindeed-redkitchen.blogspot.com/2013/01/homeschooling-week-of-jan-7-12-2013.html
  19. I am so sorry for your loss.
  20. We have four. The jump from two to three was challenging, but that could be due to only 2 1/2 years' difference in their ages. The move from three to four was very much life changing, but that could be b/c my dd4 has significant special needs. So I'm not sure that it was the actual increase in the number of children or the circumstances surrounding them that made it more of a challenge.
  21. Is purchasing the craft kit necessary for sixth grade? I see a few items that I would have trouble finding locally, so I might purchase them individually. Or do you all think it would be a better deal to just go ahead & buy the entire kit? Thanks!
  22. We are currently using Sonlight Core F, but I've had to tweak the schedule in the IG. It is way too much reading in a day for my dd12. So, I say do what works for you! :) My disclaimer, though, is that we will be going with another curriculum next year b/c the amount of reading required in SL is just not feasible in our family.
