  1. Thanks. And, no. We tried the older versions of Core F(5) at the beginning of this school year and it was not a good fit for our family. We switched to a different curriculum provider. :leaving:
  2. :grouphug: Sometimes it is so hard not to feel sorry for ourselves.
  3. I just got my catalog today. Ds9, dd4, and I are on page 102.
  4. I am at a place where I've learned to mesh things together in a way that works for us. We have influences from Waldorf, Charlotte Mason, and unit studies. Different things work for us during different seasons of life. ETA: This is a great thread topic. :)
  5. Ds9, dd5, and I are on page 102. Man, too bad we didn't make the cover. I'd love to have that gift certificate!
  6. Thanks to everyone. We've had our daughter for three years, but only within the past year & a half did her significant special needs begin to manifest. I still have to figure out how to navigate this journey. Some days are better than others, but I am learning to let go of the dreams and plans I had & exchange them for new dreams & plans. It isn't easy, though.
  7. I, obviously, am an adoption advocate (check my siggy.) While ours is international, it still applies. You have to be prepared for things that aren't disclosed initially. We were told our daughter had a minor vision problem, but in reality she is totally blind in one eye and has only partial vision in the other. More than that, she is severely mentally insufficient and suspected ASD. We didn't know this until we got her home and had medical checkups. Of course we love her dearly, but it is so hard. She does a lot of self-hitting and has a limited amount of communication skills. To say this is hard on me and my family is an understatement. I do not want to discourage you, and if God is calling you to do this, then I definitely do NOT want to be a stumbling block. I just want you to be prepared for the unexpected. I don't want to be negative. It is just that I've BTDT, and I am a firm believer in truth in adoption.
  8. Having a child with significant special needs has completely removed my fear of being behind. She certainly is and always will be, so it has really put things into perspective for me. Each child, special needs or not, should be allowed to learn at a pace that's best for him/ her. I am a firm believer in learning through play for the preschool years.
  9. There are some great free or inexpensive Waldorf resources. I've pinned lots to my homeschooling board on Pinterest. Here's the link: http://pinterest.com/happyhomescool/homeschooling/
  10. Sending hugs your way and praying that all will turn out wonderfully.
  11. I pick and choose, but my homeschool is "Waldorfy." Dd12 uses Oak Meadow 6 and dd5 uses Oak Meadow Preschool, A Child's Seasonal Treasury, and the Wynstone's Kindergarten series. Ds9 uses a unit study, but I incorporate Waldorf activities. I am definitely NOT an anthroposophy follower, so I just leave that out of what I do. The rhythm, circle time, songs, poems, and stories are especially beneficial to my special needs dd5.
  12. I agree with just reading the books on their booklists that appeal to your family. We tried SL back in 2009 and dropped it halfway through the year. Then we actually did a complete year last year with Core D+E, which was great overall, but we didn't get to every book. SL is just way too much reading for my kids. We started with Core F(5) for dd12 at the beginning of this school year, and we dropped it halfway through. It's an older version and the have since revamped it, but it was entirely too much reading of too many books each day-at least for us. Dd12 was not retaining much b/c she felt totally overwhelmed. I switched her to Oak Meadow and she's doing great now. SL definitely has some wonderful literature selections, but I think you'll do better by picking and choosing books as opposed to purchasing an actual core.
  13. This is our seventh year and it has been the best and smoothest. It took me this long to find the right curriculum for each child, as well as a great schedule.
  14. Dd12: Bible (daily reading) & still trying to choose a Bible study for her Oak Meadow 6 (we just started it & will continue it next year) for History, English, and Science Saxon Math 8/7 Galore Park French or Spanish-still trying to choose which one Ds(almost)10: Cantering the Country and Galloping the Globe (includes Bible, geography, science, art, and I'll add in history resources) Saxon Math 6/5 Prima Latina Both dd12 & ds10: Art & music studies I found on Pinterest Dd5: (Continuing this year's studies) Oak Meadow Preschool A Child's Seasonal Treasury Wynstone's Kindergarten Series Slow and Steady Get Me Ready *We will also continue our weekly co-op. I don't know what the classes will be yet.
  15. My middle two children are spending this week with my parents out of town. I am really going to miss them, but I also look forward to lots of one-on-one time with my little one who has special needs. Going to attempt potty training. Prayers and good thoughts appreciated!

  16. I'm almost done. I still need to purchase math for dd12 and ds9, along with foreign language for both and a few extras for ds9's geography study. Dd5 is completely taken care of. Dd12 will be using Oak Meadow 6 for most of the year. We just started it and are on Week 6. She will also use Galore Park French or Spanish-still trying to decide. Ds9 is using Prima Latina, Cantering the Country, and Galloping the Globe. Both will do art & music studies that I found on Pinterest. Dd5 will use Oak Meadow Preschool, A Child's Seasonal Treasury, and the Wynstone's Kindergarten series-which we have been using this year already.
  17. Life of Fred is "CMish" I think. Maybe also Rightstart Math or Math U See? Look at the recs from this site also: http://www.amblesideonline.org/
