  1. Had you done any previous IEW? I'm wondering if someone who has never even seen and IEW course could pick up the US History based lessons and be able to make good use of them? Thanks!
  2. Had you left out the words 'bigoted' and 'hate-filled,' and merely stated that you dislike the Christian belief that Jesus said, "No one comes to the Father but by me," I'd not have commented on it. I'm "calling it anger" because of those words.
  3. I'm not that good at quoting, esp. with the new format, but I'll try the old cut-n-paste method... excuse the lack of attribution: quote For me, it boils down to: I prefer company where I'm not always defending myself, not having to listen to bigoted, hatefilled discussions about how everyone is going to hell for not following your breed of faith, etc end quote I only saw that kind of anger on one side of the discussion. I'd venture to guess, in fact, that the most unkind comment from the other side was mine pointing it out... Perhaps I shouldn't have, then.
  4. I was interested enough to read the whole thread (so far) and the general tone of the posts struck me as somewhat ironic. A fair amount of vitriol was dripping from the 'tolerant' toward those who had disagreed with them or made them feel unwelcome, while those brave few willing to represent the 'intolerant' side seemed, well, tolerant.
  5. One thing that was a real hit on my daughter's tenth birthday was filling the house with 100 (that's ten times ten, you know) balloons. We had some hanging, but a lot just all over the floors.
  6. I, too, would really like to know how you got ahold of the later modules of Geometry! Please share!!
  7. Currently, he's reading Pilgrim's Progress and The Hobbit. Earlier reading for the year has included A Christmas Carol, Julius Caesar, Treasure Island, and Mere Christianity. He's very much a math/science kid so even this has been a stretch.
  8. If my high schooler takes Physics at home, and then at a community college, how would you record that on a transcript? Would it count as an 'advanced' course, or look like we were giving him two credits for the same class? I guess my problem (and this goes for Math courses like Calculus as well) is this: I'm not sure if having his first experience of a certain math/science at the college level is too huge a jump and needs a high school level first as an intro, or if the material is just somewhat more difficult than a typical high school class and can be done without first taking a high school level course. Background info, my son is in ninth, good at math and science, has gone through the Apologia program through Chemistry with almost straight As, and is in the Algebra 2 portion of videotext, also with As. I'm considering Physics at a community college next year, instead of at home. TIA
  9. It usually breaks down about like this... though often with large variation. This is probably fairly representative of an average day. Bible or Logic - half hour Language Arts - two hours (we give it extra time as it's a weakness) Math - 1 hour Chemistry - 45 minutes Computer Science - 45 minutes History - half hour Spanish - half hour He doesn't really like it either!
