My boys, 3 and almost 5, are the same height but they are too young for it to bother them. However, it does affect the way people perceive the 3yo. Since he is so tall, they expect him to be on the same developmental level as his brother but he's almost 2 years younger.

Sounds lovely!

I love the Peterson series. They also have a cd Birding by Ear that has bird calls/songs in a pretty easy to learn format. I've found that it's easier for little ones to hear birds than to see them.

MamaT, you sound like my dh! He wants goats, chickens, and bees! I think that sounds great but like sooo much work! Neither of us have real farm experience. So Hive Mind, how much work are chickens and goats?

My dh found a house that he loves and we have been daydreaming. The house has about 10 acres. About 6.5 acres are open pasture. There is a 4 stall barn and a small outbuilding. What would you do with it?

A tablespoon of straight sugar! It sounds gross but works every time. (my son now loves getting hiccups because of the cure!)

Wendy B. was right on the money! My son has loved scouts. He started as a Tiger and is in Webelos now. He's really looking forward to crossing over to Boy Scouts to get into more of the adventure type activities.
My only advice is to see if there are multiple Packs in your area. Different Packs put different personality into the Scouting program. You may find that one is a better fit for your family than the rest.

Thanks for the advice! I'll hunker down this summer and try to pre-plan as much as possible and look for curriculum that won't wear me out!

I'm looking into homeschooling next year and one of the things that scares me the most is finding time to be prepared with lessons and projects. Dh runs a small business (aka long and crazy hours) and in addition to my might-be homeschooler, I have two preschoolers. Am I overextending myself here if I don't get much help or quiet planning time? How much time do you feel like you need to be prepared for a week of homeschooling?

Most of the networks have the shows available on their websites and watching online has the conveniences of the DVR. I watch when I want to and I have the ability to pause the show if I need to step away. I've been pretty happy with how cutting cable has worked so far!

We are starting homeschooling mid-stream. I'm a little apprehensive about teaching grammar with him. He's always received fine grades but he doesn't have a great grasp of writing conventions. I can spot his grammatical errors but have a hard time explaining the rules to him. Does anyone have a recommendation for a curriculum for 5th graders that does a good job of including material that would have typically been covered at a younger age as well as age appropriate skills? Thanks!
Drawing a blank!

Help! A few weeks ago, there was a post about a really interesting, albeit expensive, history curriculum. The thread mentioned finding a set on ebay at a good price. It looked like it had something to do with pirates/ocean voyages and had tons of books. I was interested in finding out more about the curriculum and thought I bookmarked the thread but I can't find it.
Can anyone help me remember the name of the curriculum?
Thank you!
