  1. I’m in Northern California, on the peninsula! is there a group that meets up anywhere around here?
  2. Thank you for mentioning this! I’ve never heard of BARD before. I’m looking into it now!
  3. One note or notes plus are the apps, right! Hahaha sorry, read too fast!
  4. Did you download an app for use with the speech to text on the iPad?
  5. Rainbow resource has a book called Geairge Washington’s rules of civility, or something like that. And I believe Simply Charlotte Mason has copywork books too. As well as Queen homeschooling.
  6. I have a 4th and 3rd grader, one has been tested and is dyslexic, the other I KNOW is dyslexic but is not as servers as her sister. We use Singapore and beast together. They like beast as fun Math and we do it together, Singapore is done as an online class and I sit with them todo their homework. They don’t have their math facts memorized either, so I bought Kate Snows addition and subtraction facts that stick books. I also am going to start using Right Starts Activites for the AL abacus and their games Book through the summer to see if this helps. Honestly I’ve never been a flash card drill mom, and now kinda wish I had....although with dyslexia im not sure it would have mattered much! Haha They are both different learners when it comes to math but have both like Beast and Singapore. I’m scared to only use Beast academy for some reason, maybe because it’s sooo different than what I’m used to. If the kids choose to do only beast then that’s what we’ll do. I find it easy to teach, we read the chapter then plug away at the workboook till they get tired then stop. Once we cement the math facts I think all Math will flow easier. Sorry, no real advice except maybe try Math games and free worksheets daily till they get them down? A board member suggested the card game 24, also I’ve heard that the card game 7 ate 9 is good to. Look em up on YouTube to get an idea of how to play. A basic card deck will work too or dominos!
  7. Is the berenstain bears science book christian?
  8. I’ve used their bible curriculum, is it the same format for history? my kids learned a lot but our computer is old and it kept freezing on is so I stopped using it.
  9. Thank you for that review! I will look into it, as far as I know it is supposed to be better. We have tried google docs translate and it has worked ok. I am going to get learning ally! Its on sale now so I thinks it time to finally do it.
  10. My Daughter is 9 and is going through Barton, weve had her tested through our charter school and she is Dyslexic...well she has a "SLD" and qualifies for an IEP. She is being tutored 3/4 times a week with a private Barton tutor and is making progress. My question is would Dragon be a good choice for us to use? Is it simple to use? I came across Reading Assistant on Homeschool buyers coop and it looks good too, but is really pricey. Anyone use Dragon and like it? It would be to help her get her thoughts out on paper, im not going to require anything specific of her, but I think if she has this fancy tool maybe it would seem fun to her and shed use it. That said which headphones should I get? Ive looked on amazon, but there are soo many! Any thoughts on Learning ally? I want to get this too, and maybe get her an MP3 player so she can use it to listen to audio books! She loves this. Sorry if my questions sound lame, im not tec savvy and hav a really old computer. windows 7. haha Thanks!
  11. I’ve been looking too! I came across this site https://scienceshepherd.com/ and am in Love so far! It’s easy 2-5 min. Videos and hand on experiments with simple worksheets(my DD is dyslexic so this is perfect). The guy can be kinda monotone sounding, but my girls liked the sample lessons so far. The price is sooo reasonable that we may toggle back and fourth between mystery science and science shepherd! Mystery science runs a special once a year and you can get a whole year for free, it’s limited access to the site but we’ve enjoyed it so far. We’ve also done a year of free mystery science and it’s nice, but it’s not christian. So if that’s important to you then I’d preview what videos you let them watch.
  12. What about taking 10-20 min and typing out all the correct sentences and then cutting them up, so he can just tape or paste the sentence in the space he’s supposed to copy it? Fun and easy!
  13. For 1st and 2nd if you want to do mapmdrill, pick a continent and print off a blank map, then have your child point to each country they know each day. You can also do sticker maps, or scratch off maps! My kids love that paired with the JUST LIKE ME Book, it’s a great combo. We just read about a country and scratch it off on the map. It’s helped a lot just getting them hands on. For kiddos that small I’d mayeb print the labels and have them match it for map drill instead of writing it.
  14. Theres also a lady on YT, she calls herself the saxon lady I believe...anyways her youtube videos are awesome! We too love mathantics.
  15. I recently came upon this site, and she has a free webinar that you could take togther (20min) and then she has practice worksheets to practice. It helped me teach long division in several ways to my kids! http://shelleygrayteaching.com/box-area-method-alternative-traditional-long-division/ http://shelleygrayteaching.com/partial-quotients-alternative-traditional-long-division/ http://shelleygrayteaching.com/grid-method-long-division/ https://shelleygray.lpages.co/longdivisionvideotraining/
  16. http://www.raisingaselfreliantchild.com/free-homeschooling-curriculum/ She has a ton of free resources on her site, also if you look in archives.org, you can find many free grammar/history/math books!
  17. So what brand of metronome do you suggest? Should I start with the iPad free one first, and see how it goes? My daughter is getting tested soon for dyslexia, and plays piano. I think this could really help her. Is there a basic starting beat? Just start with hand clapping or skipping a beat in between and then clap?
  18. HI! So my possible Dyslexic child has requested to do an online program instead of singapore this year. We have tried the sample lesson for TT and she said she didnt like it and wouldnt be able to do that everyday! lol Ive also looked at CTC and ALEKS (sp?) math and havent like the looks of them exactly. She does like Kahn academy and iReady (which we use through our charter school), and i know that that Kahn does have youtube videos of the level 3 singapore too. Thanks for the input!
  19. -justasque This is so well put, and exactly how I feel. I. Have almost stopped shopping at our local target because the workers are always on their phones and are never helpful with me. There's a huge lacking on customer service now a days I feel. I can't go into sonlight and ask questions in person, but if I did, and received this response I'd have walked out immediately. I ended up getting the timeline figures used on eBay after this customer service transaction. I was waiting for them to guide me on which ines to buy from them, and I was getting the markable map too. So they lost a sale from me. I do get their policy, and I also understand where they are coming from. It's just a bummer that they won't help anyone who isint purchasing new. What if a family in need gets ther curriculum free and needs help? They won't get any because of financial need? Kwim? Anyways. Sorry to stir up things. Thanks for everyone's input. It helps to see other sides of it :)
  20. Yes, I see it from that standpoint. I have never been able to afford to buy brand new, so just disappointed, that's all.
  21. Renai- Yes, I'm using b+c this year. Thanks for the info :) I'm really bummed about their customer service, so I'll just buy used from now on if we decide to continue with sonlight. Thanks for the suggestions!
