All of the Hoffman Academy lessons are free on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/hoffmanacademy

Rather than books, I'd like to recommend Hoffman Academy online piano lessons. They do sell books to accompany the lessons, but the books don't work well alone. The books are really companions to the video lessons. My daughters and I have learned piano so quickly with his lessons. We love them!! We're also premium members and the content is great.

I feel this is a good article for discussion: http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/24/entertainment/terry-crews-porn-addition-feat/

Can you please tell me a bit about your book of centuries? I have been thinking about starting something like that for her, but not really sure how to go about it.
Sure. It's essentially a timeline in a notebook. I used the free download from here:

We have varied dd's entries from drawing a picture and writing some sentences to just writing several sentences. The website above also goes into more detail of what it is and how to use it. I find it's a nice way to have dd record the main points as well as a date for what we learned. I always have her enter a date. Also, the entries usually contain a place and a person.

It looks like the difference between the quick and new is that the quick has less songs and it doesn't teach 2 harder time signatures. Did she do all the content from the new?
I just asked her and she said she didn't do the entire book, but she did at least half. I hadn't ever asked. *blush* It was just one of those books I got "for fun."

The Horizon's teacher's manual has very little actual teaching instruction. It might say "teach the clock." That's it. It was not enough help for me.
I have to agree with this because I found it so frustrating. This is why we're switching to CLE for math for 5th grade.

One of the beauties of SOTW is you can easily go deeper, covering less material, or stick with just the text. When dd was younger, we used to cover a chapter a week, but didn't do many or any outside activities, really. We didn't read the whole chapter in one sitting, though. We broke it up, reading history on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Now we cover a section of a chapter per week, meaning that we cover one chapter in two weeks. This means we spend two years on one volume. We delve deeper now with the map work, additional reading from the activity book and in KIHW. I also have dd write in her "Book of Centuries" about what we read that day.

Hey, Just wanted to add my experience. I was one of those early readers myself, reading at age 3, but dd was just reading Bob books at age 6. She couldn't read beyond that level until she was about 6.5, when her reading took off and she could read anything we put in front of her face. It was wonderful to see. Until that happened, though, we just continued to do 20 minutes or so of reading practice daily until she got it. I trusted in her timetable and for us, that was the best thing to do.

I bought The New Nine-Note Recorder Method Book by Penny Gardner for dd when she was around 7. She went through the book by herself and learned recorder basics. It was great that the book had a built in stand. It's also well written. I'd recommend it based on our experience.

I am wanting to buy Typing Instructor Platinum 21 for dd and was wondering if anyone else has used this with Windows 7. This software is advertised as being compatable with Windows 7, but some online reviews show people having trouble getting it to function with Windows 7. Thanks!

My tentative plan:
CLP Building Spelling Skills 5
R&S English 5
CLE Reading 500
CLE Math 500 or Horizons Math 4...still deciding
Artistic Pursuits Elem. 4-5, Book 1
Christian Kids Explore Chemistry
SOTW 3
Lots and lots of reading good books..dd loves to read!!
Typing Instructor probably
Logic...not sure yet...I own Logic Liftoff and Logic Countdown

I may throw in some Wordsmith Apprentice here and there. Also GUM Drops 5. DD loves GUM Drops. Also some Evan Moor Daily Geography Practice here and there.
BTW...what is MP geography? I've seen it posted several times. Is it MCP geography?

I'm in Seneca (right outside of Clemson.) Anyone close to here?
We are considering moving to Anderson. How's that area?

I just watched this yesterday with my girls. We love it! I like how factual it is, giving numbers, dates and places.

Oops, I thought TT was "times tables." Haha....I was thinking the answer would be "phonics".....well I'm glad I clicked on this thread because I had never heard of The Phonetic Zoo before. It may be a good match for my dd1. Good luck, Roxy Roller!

When dd was that age, we loved using the books Mudpies to Magnets and More Mudpies to Magnets!

I make it with whole milk, then line a colander with a coffee filter and strain until I've reached the desired consistency.

We just switched from Horizons to MM. I just planned on supplimenting Horizons with MM, but it teaches so well! I've improved my math skills and so has my daughter. I think it's a great program. I'd go with MM!

Thanks for posting! This looks neat!

I haven't heard of it before, but would suggest trying eBay. I think you would get the greatest exposure there & would be more likely to find someone who has heard of it and is interested in it. Good luck!

I would suggest a moist cotton ball for bathroom stimulation.
