  1. If you're looking for critical thinking rather than formal logic you could take a look at the many resources available for 'OCR AS Critical Thinking ' which is an English exam aimed at 16-18 year olds, but I've seen material that I'd be happy using with my 11 & 13 year olds.
  2. Millions of British people would disagree with you about gopher's not being cute. For several years the anchor person for children's BBC had a gopher puppet as his costar.
  3. England Purple Vegetarian Scampi (& I agree with Amanda re. food not sweets, and with chocolate being a favourite, but I wouldn't classify chocolate as sweets.)
  4. You can type in annotations in the kindle app if you don't need it to be handwritten.
  5. You can open a PDF in those apps, which can come from the Internet, etc. or you can use your ipad to scan a paper worksheet (using an app such as tiny scan ) and then save it as a PDF to be opened in your PDF editing app of choice. We' re currently using PDF Master. Dd finds it much easier to complete worksheets this way - the stylus has less friction, she doesn't press on too hard so it's less tiring, and she can zoom in so she can write her usual size but it fits the space better.
  6. We use home school sked track.com (without the spaces) to produce a daily or weekly list that they can tick off. Its not perfect-I haven't found a way to add a twice a month class, but it's the best I've tried & it's free
  7. Minimus was definitely a read together text for us, and whilst it was fun & gave some exposure, I don't know that they retained a whole lot. DD1 then used Lively Latin which I tried doing alongside her, but she's pretty diligent about doing it & I'm.....not. Hence she's on book 2, working completely independently. She was disappointed to learn there isn't a book 3!
  8. I don't know if the Ikeas over there stock them, but I got several different sizes of silicon spatula from them, and they were very reasonably priced.
  9. Please don't put dry ice in your drinks.
  10. Have you looked at AOPS? I'd be choosing between (or more accurately using a mixture of all three!) AOPS, MEP & Elmwood Press. MEP is free, so you can download the whole thing or just pick out the bits you want if using it to supplement something else.
  11. Writing with skill from peace hill pres s. there are generously sized samples available on their website.
  12. I'm planning to use The Snake and the Fox: An Introduction to Logic by Mary Haight
  13. Did you know you can buy 2D glasses to make the 3D film like watching a normal film?
  14. We've just got an ipad mini for schoolwork. The camera was much better than the tablets we looked at, which I thought was just a 'nice to have' but we've only had it a month and already we've used it a lot. It's fast becoming my go-to device for most things. We got a refurbished mini from the Apple store, so that brought down the cost. Before we decided we went to stores to try them out several times, and I spent some time comparing apps across the different platforms - a lot of apps are available for both operating systems, but not all, and there are some apps which are different on apple than on android. Maybe that could help you decide?
  15. You need to get a silicone handle cover that you can leave on it, then you don't need to remember
  16. For anyone still undecided, don't forget there's a 22 page sample on the PHP website
  17. My two loved the SOTW activity books & were horrified wHen I suggested not getting them. I also bought the student pages PDF so I could reprint a page if my dyspraxia & perfectionist dd wanted to start over. There are lots of ideas for activities that aren't fine motor skill focused. SOTW without a mummification project or cooking a roman meal will still teach them history, but if you add in the activity book the experience will be richer for it.
  18. :coolgleamA: Thank you! I was looking at Photon, since it's half the price of iswifter, but without a demo version to test I wasn't sure if it would work for what we want.
  19. For us it was a good way to get them to pay more attention to what the answer should have been and why, rather than just the number of ticks. They mark in the same room as me so I can keep an eye on them, pick up on misunderstandings, answer questions, etc.
  20. Anyone have any success with using an ipad mini for sites like Fascinating Education? I've subscribed to their chemistry course, but it would be lovely if I weren't tied to a computer to use it!
  21. They started around age 10. With ds I weaned him onto the taste by making mocha & gradually increasing the coffee content. He was member of an astronomy club, so it was helpful to drink tea or coffee at star parties.both dds like a brew with their maths.
  22. Have you tried printing mm double sized? That would increase the white space & it seems a shane to switch if mm is otherwise working for you.
  23. If you start with the 2nd book you might find you're reading them faster than SWB can write them!
  24. Thanks for all the suggestions. I've downloaded several to experiment with and see which suits us best.
