  1. I bought the 5th Edition baby Campbell text and study guide set for $20 from Homeschool Classifieds. (I see a 4th edition set there now for $15.00).Purchased the 6th Edition Test Bank from Pearson, it was the only edition available.

Taking a slow two weeks per chapter, my son studied chapters 1-20 freshman year and 21-38 sophomore year, while also taking Chemistry with ChemAdvantage.

To his surprise, he scored 800 on the May Biology SAT. He would have been happy with 700. He felt the book covered every question on the test.

    Katie,

Amazing score on the SAT Bio! Congrats to your son!

My daughter also took AP Chemistry with ChemAdvantage this year!

  2. I think VT should pay for your use of another program since theirs isn't ready when they said. That long of a delay is really ridiculous.

Or give you a refund of some sort?

Lisa, I talked with Tom at the CHAP convention (May). He did offer me back some money.... take the whole cost of the program and divide it into how many modules there are ... and they would reimburse me back for the one module based upon this calculation. Not much.

That does seem nice.... but I'm still a bit upset that he could have kept us up to date on the status. Doing this would of allowed us to finish up the year without this huge scramble for a Trig program and summer work.

Additionally, the amount of money he would reimburse doesn't even cover the cost of a Trig program to replace the missing module.

Tom did suggest that we just go out and purchase Trig workbook for Dummies????????? I don't know.... I hate to think I spent so much money on a program that equates to the Dummy books :0)

Needless to say I'm still searching for a Trig program that doesn't also contain PreCalc (because it was already covered with VT during Algebra) AND that we can complete quickly during the summer..... sigh.....

  3. Martha - just in case you were wondering. Videotext's final module for geometry (the trig module) is still NOT completed. We purchased it last year at the convention with the promise that it would be completed by the fall of that same year. Now, they say it won't be completed until the first of this year (1 1/2 years later). That really put us in a bind - especially because they didn't give us the heads up -- but kept promising it all year. That is my BIG complaint.

What we liked about Videotext is how it is presented. My dd gets tired of the same sweater as well - I like Tom Clark as a presenter - she liked the women in the Algebra course. The visuals are great.

They do have a wonderful helpline. For geometry you get a call back from Tom Clark. Typically, they phone back within 24 but during convention season - it is days. When my dd does use the help line Tom does answer her questions and then will even take it a few steps deeper.

Overall, I liked this program and would get it again - my only issue is that the missing Trig portion of geometry should have been handled differently.

  4. We had a similar set up in our old B&N (we have since moved). We complained to the manager and things were moved.

We also complained about inappropriate books that were placed in the children's section - a cute little book on LOVE that was placed in the Valentine's Day display. Although it looked like it was for young children - when you opened it and read it -- it was clearly for adults -- making most adults blush! Once we brought it to their attention that was quickly taken away as well.

Say something, I'm sure they will move it.

  5. I also posted this on the highschool board -- but I am desperate for any recommendations that anyone may have..... :0)

We have been using Videotext - last May we purchased their Geometry program which also contains Trig. The Trig portion hadn't been completed but he assured us that it would be out by Sept.....then by Nov.....then by Dec.....now one year later he said he still has 7 lessons to write!

My daughter is taking AP Physics this Fall and needs to have Trig completed by then.

Has anyone used an online course or video course for Trig that they were happy with?

    Thanks!

  7. I'll join you, thanks for the incentive!

We were always sugar free but in the last few years we have fallen off horribly.

To go sugar free the first two weeks are the hardest (cranky, cranky) after that all is well.

It does help to eat a lot of vegetables and fruit as it takes away the sugar craving.

    Looking forward to this!

  8. I have a GE front loader washing machine. It is just 3 years old. I have hated it since we bought it. It constantly has bubbles releasing out of a valve in the back which has ruined my floor.

My new problem is I have mold growing inside my soap dispenser. The repair man said that that is a NORMAL thing????? I don't mean just a little mold I mean lots of mold growing inside and up into the dispenser.

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone else have this? Is it really normal? He said your suppose to keep your soap dispenser out and on top of your washer when not in use - just like keeping the door open all the time. I never head that before and never thought to even do that.

So, I guess what I'm asking is - is mold in the dispenser really a normal thing and I just didnt know about it?

I'm thinking about going back to a top loader.

Thanks for any and all advise.

  9. My daughter likes it very much. It does focus on the reasons why behind the formulas.

Knowing the reason why behind the formula speeds the learning process along quickly.

They also have an 800 number to phone should you have a question. They are very prompt and helpful when getting back to you.

    Hope that helps.

  10. Today we found a baby bird - a new baby bird - on the ground. We searched for the nest to put it back into, but couldn't find one in the trees where we found it.

We placed it into a nest that we noticed birds making a few weeks ago. It had two blue eggs in it. We placed it right next to it.

We know that the bird did come by and the baby bird did look a little bit better - but we were wondering if the new bird would take care of it as if it were it's own.....and will the other two eggs be okay?

    Thanks.

  11. I posted this on the general board too.

We are using The Art of Argument and she'll also check things out in the Fallacy Detective.

She knows the definition of all the fallacies, but during test time when she has to apply them she doesn't get them correct.

Is there another program that would help her with this (maybe one that has more exercises).

    Any advice?

    Thanks.

  12. Thanks everyone.

Meslissa, don't feel bad about giving it to your son. When my daughter's allergist gave me the script for it, he didn't tell me ANY of the side effects. AND he did make it seem like such a nice mild medication. I talked with his office today several times, the nurse that I spoke to today has her daughter on it.

Right now Singulair only has the warning that tells you they are looking into a connection between it and these symptoms -- they haven't made final conclusions yet.

Please let us know if you take your son off and his moods improve.

    Thanks.

    Deb

  13. Hello,

I was just wondering if any of your children take Singulair. A new allergist wants my daughters (age 12 and age 5) to take it.

But, I read the side effects and now am very alarmed at giving it to them.

Has anyone given it to their children and if so, any side effects?

    Thanks.
