  1. DH won't be able to come home for lunch anymore, so I sent a fridge with a tiny freezer and a microwave to work with him. He loves soups, so I've been trying to get a good jump on filling the freezer with soups this week, and I need some more recipes that freeze well. The kids started jobs in the past few weeks, as well, so I wouldn't mind a few entree types for the one that hates soups. So far I have chili, Minnesota Wild Rice and Mushroom soup (yum ), Italian Basil Sausage soup (yum), Italian meatball soup (blah), and a spicy Asian chicken soup (yum, been a staple for a few years now). Planning to make these tomorrow/Tuesday: Sausage lentil soup, Chicken Tortilla soup, Mediterranean Beef Stew, and Chicken and Dumplings. Any suggestions for other pre-cooked soups/stews/entrees that freeze well? The kids have fridges/freezers and microwaves at work, as well. With DS6 and I starting school in a week, still building lots of furniture, driving the kids to and from work, HS co-op starting, and tons of new social commitments, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed in the coming weeks, so I'd like to get a LOT of meals in the freezer this week so DS6 and I can get into our HS rhythm without having to add extra things for the first month or so.
  2. A lot of them do come to a head, I quit wearing anything but dark clothing years ago because of that. I used to try covering them with bandages but the irritation from the tape/bandaid to an already irritated area was just too much. I truly hope you do not have HS...there's no other way to describe it other than it effing sucks.
  3. La Brea tar pits, Mojave Desert, LA/Hollywood, Calico Ghost Town, Grand Canyon, Vegas, Hoover Dam, the Painted Desert, 4 corners, Mesa Verde, the Petrified Forest, Carlsbad Caverns (We did all of these on a drive from Los Angeles to Florida in 2000 when my oldest two were 7 and 8.) They remember the trip...you'd think the Hoover Dam, or Calico, or the Grand Canyon would stick out in their minds the most. No, the darn tar pits were absolutely the highlight of the trip for them, they talk about them even now at 23 and 24!
  4. JMO, but Angie's List is pure junk. Granted, my house is in a small town area, but the ONLY contractors that are on there are ones who pay. The ones who don't pay aren't on there. Angie's List is biased and a huge waste of money imo. (And apparently, I'm not the only one with this opinion, as I got an email yesterday regarding Moore v Angie's List.) In addition, signing up automatically puts you on auto-renew, and trying to cancel before it auto-renews is a freaking nightmare. Selecting Membership Cancellation in their Contact Us menu logs me out of the site and puts a grey box over the form. (Which means I have to find time to make a phone call during their business hours, and quite frankly right now, I have zero free time during the day)
  5. We have been throught several Galaxy S5s, and I will not be buying anymore Samsung phones. I seriously do not understand the hype over them, quite frankly, they've been the worst phones we've owned. We never had issues like this with our Motorolas
  6. I hope the appointment went well and it was something benign.
  7. We have had ours for the same reason, and it's paid out more than I've paid in during the 6 years we've had it. They've peeved me off a few times, but at the end of the day, they've saved me money. We have AHS. *ETA Saw JodiSue sees it from the tenant side. Only once (one of the times they peeved me off, because we try to take excellent care of our tenants) have my tenants had issues because of AHS. When our wall oven went out, it was the "computer" panel, and was going to take over a month to be repaired. 3 weeks after the work call, I get a call from AHS asking when i planned to make up my mind. Errr...make up my mind about what??? They said they had called (I had no record of them in my cell's history) and that I had to choose between waiting for the repair or them paying $XXX toward a replacement oven. I was LIVID, because at the same time, our oven, in the house we were renting, had been out for over a month and the landlords (no warranty) were dragging their feet about replacing it. I called my property manager, ripped into her...she had no clue either. I bought a new oven over the phone and it was installed the next morning, apologized profusely to the tenant, and asked him to PLEASE call me direct if repairs were not taken care of in a timely manner. With the exception of the oven, and when we had major damage from a roof leak, our repairs have all been done within a day or two of being called in. Most have been handled by AHS and I just pay the deductible.*
  8. I grew up on the East Coast of Florida. Dings in paint today meant holes in doors in a year or so. Right now, I'm in heavy salt territory (for the snow) and my vehicle (2013) has 2 MAJOR rust spots from paint chips. We are having them repaired before winter, so as not to develop holes. My truck (the one that got sideswiped when it was new) is also beginning to rust along the scratch from that incident....it's getting repaired, too. All of it on my dime, which I'm quite sure will be more than my $500 deductibles would have been. Should I just let my cars rust out from under me?
  9. I'd have to know which service, where he was/is with dwell/shore time, how long they've been together (dating two years, but how long were they friends before?), how mature she is....really just too many factors to guess at.
  10. Please go to the doctor. This is how my FIL's stomach cancer showed up.
  11. Guess I'll be the odd one to say, ummm yes, I do expect you to pony up your insurance information, and if you don't want the ding on your history, then to pay the claim out of pocket. (I wouldn't do this with my current vehicles, because they already have dents and dings, but if they didn't, yep, I'd expect it to be fixed. I HAVE had this happen before and not known who did it, and I've had my brand new vehicle sideswiped and no one left info. *IF* I hit someone's vehicle in any way, door or otherwise, I'd leave my info. Fortunately, we have always had minivans with the kids, and sliding doors can't be flung into other vehicles, or I'm sure I would have had this happen multiple times) *ETA* IF the woman had immediately acknowledged/apologized, and told the child to be careful in the future, I probably wouldn't ask for the info. The fact that she did NOT say anything immediately, yep, claim incoming. Embarrassed or not, if you cause damage, you apologize.
  12. I highly recommend one of these. Oh, and maybe one of these. Seriously. A miscarriage laid me out for over 6 weeks. My 11 year old managed to learn to cook well enough to feed himself, me, and his 10 year old brother...and he's developmentally delayed. Between the 10 and 11 year old, though thankfully they are fairly neat kids, they managed to keep the house pretty clean and to do laundry. Maybe you better get multiple cattle prods.
  13. Mine have been swollen like this for years...I do not have congestive heart failure (I have been tested), my left leg/ankle is noticeably bigger than my right. Anyway, have never been offered a solution, unfortunately, but I just wanted to give you hope that it isn't always heart problems, and I strongly suspect mine are because I sit for way too long with pressure in the wrong spots.

    Natto

Darn near laughed 'til I cried at this suggestion.
  15. Garage. My parents have always had their chest and upright freezers in the garage in Central Florida and the Florida Panhandle.
  16. I only used her for daycare, but I found a fabulous sitter on DogVacay.com. We used her while we were visiting DC during the day, so she wouldn't disturb the neighbors in the campground. (She's kennel trained, but we're pretty sure she cries/barks while we are gone.) Maybe you could get a sitter near your mom? Or even at home.
  17. If she happens to live in Texas, and can pass a natural science course, she can get an AA or AS at Central Texas College. (If she doesn't live in Texas, she could still attend, but their out of state tuition is pretty high)
  18. Are you going to use a property manager for the long-term rental? We use a property manager, *most* of the repairs go through the management company, and they pay the bills. That stuff shows up on our tax statement from them at the end of the year. For things we have to pay ourselves (if a contractor doesn't have....unemployment insurance? (can't remember) then my property manager can't "hire" them and I have to pay the bills direct. I keep those receipts in a folder in my email and just tally at the end of the year. Nothing that would require software imo.
  19. If you have a favorite friend or family member, they could get ordained online and be legal to perform the ceremony.
  20. Yep! Zika is already just 3 hours away from Disney World...and it's only August. Yes, a 3 year old can have fun at Disney World. For the price, I don't think it's worth it for a 3 year old OR for someone who is pregnant. And there is no way in Hades I would voluntarily go to Florida if I were pregnant right now. (If I lived in FL, and had annual passes, then yes, I'd take a 3 year old to Disney, and have done so, but not with the whole picture you presented.)
  21. Try Dramamine, or doc may be able to prescribe something. There used to be a patch that went behind the ear that worked well, but I'm not sure if it's still available.
  22. We have 4 cats, 3 of them eat twice a day, one of them is 3 times a day. We have moved multiple times since switching to wet (4 houses, 2 separate stretches in our travel trailer) and it takes the cats all of a day or two to learn their new "spot" for meals. They each have an assigned room/area for mealtimes and as soon as we have the bowls ready, they start running to their spots. Our female gets 3 meals a day because the vet thinks she could stand to gain some weight. Our boys get 2.5oz Friskies pate twice a day, the female gets 1.5-2oz three times a day (she'd get 2.5 but she will not eat that much in a sitting) I think my son says we go through 1.5 cans a day (we use the large 15oz(?) cans whenever possible, as they cost less per ounce than the small cans.) On Dr. Pierson's site, or maybe on the can, you can find out how much to feed. Mostly we eyeball it now, but we do use a scale sometimes, too. We used the scale for every meal for about the first year or so. Yes, we are able to keep track of exactly who eats how much. Neither my cats nor my dog (raw fed her whole life) would touch Honest Kitchen. If you are interested in trying HK, I highly recommend buying the sample sizes first.
  23. I firmly believe everything Dr. Lisa Pierson says about cat health. (Seriously, since I found her site in late 2012, started my cats on wet after attempting to switch to her raw recipe, we have seen amazing changes in our cats.) I tried and tried to switch them (carefully, weighing each of them twice a day) to raw, and finally said to hell with it, and started buying the Friskies Pate she mentions on her site. We have 4 cats, I pay 90¢ a can for the 15 ounce cans. Yes my cat food budget went up, and my vet bills went down. When I can't get the Friskies, I buy the Walmart brand pate. No regrets whatsoever about the Friskies or Walmart, and I see no need to go with any of the more expensive brands. My cats are thriving on Friskies. (Their ages range from 13 to 8, and my 13 year old could barely walk at 10ish when we switched to canned food, he's lost about 6 pounds, and jumps and plays like a kitten now.)
  24. DH and I have had nothing but problems with our Galaxy S5s. Both were purchased new from T-mobile. Mine was replaced with a refurb several months ago and the refurb is awful too. DH's screen died a couple months ago, and I bought him a cheap LG at the T-mobile store for $150, and he said it works a thousand times better than the S5 ever did.
