Can you use a 2nd edition Dive CD with a 3rd edition book? Are there significant changes between editions?

We use both MM and Saxon, depending on the child. My daughter needs lots of small steps, and repetition/review, so Saxon works better for her. She also gets bored of staying on one topic, so the spiral curriculum keeps it fresh for her. My 7yo son picks up math very quickly and likes to dig deep into one topic, so I use MM for him. I used Saxon with my older son back before I knew about MM, and he is much like my 7yo... needs no review and wants to dig deep into something rather than take little steps... so when we used Saxon with him, I had to do LOTS of adaptation for him. I would say that both are very strong programs, and really depend on what type of learner you have.

Thank you. I know God will provide, but I usually have it all ready by March and I'm getting anxious to start my lesson planning. It is so frustrating. I just need more faith and patience :).

Oh, just every time I finally have the money to purchase curriculum for the Fall something else breaks :glare: Between my emergency room visit for pneumonia, my son breaking his arm and a hail storm causing major damage to our home all in the past two weeks, it looks like I'll be pushing it off again. Insurance deductibles and bills will have to come first...:banghead:

My rising 5th grade dd has been using Reason for HW for a couple of years now and loved it, but has asked for something different for 5th grade. She wants sentences, not just words. Let me explain: She LOVES doing handwriting, or else I might consider dropping it. She has beautiful handwriting, but it takes her a long time... she could benefit from some more fluency practice to increase her ease of writing. She loved Reason for HW because she LOVES writing bible verses, but she doesn't like that the first 3 days in RFH are just words, and the 4th is a full verse. She wants to write full sentences or at least partial sentences building up to a full verse. I am thinking that I may need to create them for her, but thought I'd ask if anyone knows of something that is already like this before I go through all of the trouble. Is there anything like this?

Not free, but Spelling Power is one book for grades 3-12 (that link is the 3rd edition we have. There is a 4th edition, but that is more expensive). My kids love it... simple and straightforward, and they only have to practice the words they DON'T know, not the ones they know.... that is their favorite part of the program :) The used one is about $15 and can be used over and over again.

I :001_wub: both CTC and Prufrock. We love the Word Roots & Reading Detective software/books. The kids also love Word Benders and Mind Benders. We just ordered Spider Island Logic, so I can't tell you if the kids like it yet or not. Even my 4yo likes to play Memory Challenge :) Honestly, everything has been a hit for my kids so far, so I just keep getting the software for "free time play"... much more worthwhile computer time than webkinz or other things :) You can find them cheaper on Amazon/WTM Sale Board/eBay... so I'd encourage you to look there first. This is similar to what we did this year. We focused on Math, Phonics, & Reading. We worked on those things until he was ready to stop. No pressure. Though, I didn't need to pressure him with a younger brother chomping at the bit... that was incentive in itself. When little brother learned something over his shoulder, big brother wanted to work more :) It has worked beautifully and I hope it continues that way.

Just curious... how comprehensive is it? I saw it was only 30 lessons... does it cover the entire globe, or just sections?

I've always wondered what makes my Christian beliefs different from LDS doctrine, and I think this (bolded above) was the central difference for me that I needed to know.
