  1. And see my feeling is an open house is just to get exposure. 'Must see inside' type deal. But I don't think buying and selling houses is all that complicated.
  2. This is what I want to see. Can I ask why you thought you needed a realtor to negotiate the price on a new build?
  3. Some people feel like they need the hel-- true. But the issue is more how the market and the commission rates are controlled by the MLS and National Association of realtors. Anti-trust issue.
  4. https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/15/economy/real-estate-commissions/index.html Have we discussed this lawsuit yet? Well, there are 3 I think, going on, but one is really really big. Maybe things are going to change in the RE business.
  5. I would insist on homeschooling her. If you use an online public school they have a lot of opportunities for enrichment and social activities. You could join their Facebook group right now and look through to see what sort of things they have been doing. Naturally she feels like her world is ending since her social group is split up. But that happens all through life. I wouldn't make major, life and income altering decisions based on that. And I certainly would not give up SAHM to fund a private school in this situation. You not being home will really impact your family life--more than you probably think. I think you might have to work to find her things to do....and one thing is she could look for some sort of work that would help keep her busy part of the time. My son was fairly bored for his freshman and sophmore years. Then he started DE and working his junior year and he has been busy and happy since then.
  6. As to skilled and unskilled....sometime a person starts a job unskilled and becomes skilled. And when hiring you often hire for the education or experience a person has. Or both. And when they have neither that is another entry level. One would think that young people could be hired on as unskilled for many jobs and work their way up to skilled. I am always sad when I see a 50 year old woman delivering food to my car at Sonic. And most people can't keep doing physical jobs like housekeeping forever. Heck I am only 54 and I can tell it is MUCH more difficult to clean my house now than it used to be. So individuals should think that through and have a long term plan as to how they can keep supporting themselves as they age.
  7. It turns my stomach honestly. Sure every person has a story and some are in poverty from poor management of resources and or addiction or mental illness....but there are plenty more who are doing the very best they can and still don't have a living standard of dignity. Disparity of income and living standards has bothered me since I was a very little girl. Like 7. I asked my mom if all the food in the world was divided by all the people would everyone have enough to eat. I still often think of that same concept.
  8. Wow, impressed you got 18 years out of a mattress. I didn’t even know it was that easy to get a custom size! We have a mattress that is about 10 years old. Really want a new one. My son’s box spring started making this creaking noise every time he moved. We share a wall with him so it was annoying for all of us. So I replaced it about a year ago...same thing started happening. They make them so cheap. So I ordered him a solid wood, very simple platform bed. Got rid of the box spring and no more noise. Problem solved.
  9. My vote is to take what you can get and move out of the district. Extra commuting time for 3 years will probably balance out with how much happier you will be in a house better suited to you. I am there with my house. I am just so over it.
  10. I don’t celebrate MD, so there is that, it I just wanted to say I am sorry it made you sad. i think if I were you I would sift through and past the commercialized holidays and see if I am really happy or unhappy with my day to day life and with my husband and children’s contributions to the family and their level of care and concern for me. Whew. Sorry for that run on sentence.
  11. Ugh. And I just read in another article he was not a step father, but the mom’s boyfriend.
  12. I mean if you can’t make your own family happy, really what is the point. 🙂
  13. I am so so sorry. I about fell over when I saw this post. I really am speechless. Hugs to you and your son. I know if it was my xh I would have crazy emotions even though I am happily remarried.
  14. Good grief! Is this your house? What did they do to it?
  15. It isn't an educated position anywhere I guess. But still and yet the reason they charge what seems to be a lot is that they don't have benefits and they have to pay their own taxes and other expenses. No paid holidays or expenses or insurance or anything like that.
  16. Yes, this is true. My MIL needed a hysterectomy at about 60 at least but she never would do it. She dealt with a collapsing uterus and trouble controlling her urine for all these years. Her quality of life would have been better if she had just listened to the doctor. She is still alive at age 89 but still. She also needed new knees and never would do it. She barely can walk with a walker now.
  17. Oh man I am so sorry. I know it is scary but it will be ok. (((hugs))) I went through menopause earlyish and I was completely done by age 45. There are some good things about it. No periods! 🙂
  18. As others have mentioned I find shorter hair more difficult. When I was young I washed my long hair every other day. Now it is less than that. I have wavy/curly hair so I spend some time (15 min on the day I wash it) straightening it but then the next day I just brush it. The times my hair was too short for a pony tail....MISERABLE.
  19. I am at work so I can't go look at it, but pretty sure it is the Kobalt 80 Volt. Edited to say, dh just told me it is a 40 Volt.
  20. We have a battery powered trimmer/weed wacker/weed eater and it lasts for about 45 minutes. Almost long enough to trim the entire yard.
  21. Sounds like a digital mucous cyst to me. I have several. I had one surgically removed and one removed in the doctor's office. They are painful and annoying.
