  1. Dd will have completed Beautiful Feet's Literature Approach to Ancient History and to Medieval History before she starts 9th grade. I don't really know what to choose for high school for her. Her older siblings did BJU, but that was more their speed. I want to challenge dd more than that, and find something with some more depth and interest as well. I've researched Truthquest and Trisms, and am not sure I'll have the money for those. And I have literature and writing covered already with Smarr. I think she'd love Gileskirk, but that is REALLY pricey! I really appreciate any further suggestions you all can give. Thanks much! ChrisN
  2. I went to college with Siobhan Fallon (who was on Saturday Night Live for awhile and was the bus driver in Forrest Gump). I went to high school with Diana Georger (who is a Broadway actress). ChrisN who hasn't posted in a while, but I'm not tired nor do I have much work to do since we've taken this week off school. and who's thinking you all most likely have *no clue* who these people are :)
  3. This is our 17th year; it hardly seems possible. Ds21 graduated in 2006 Ds17 is a senior Dd16 is a junior Dd13 is in 7th Dd10 is in 5th Ds8 is in 3rd only 9 years to go. :-) ChrisN (who is not up on all the cool ways I can format and cool stuff I can add with the new format)
  4. Fast draft or everyday modes will save you a lot of ink. The most savings has come to me in refilling my ink cartridges myself. I buy my ink from www.encoreink.com (a homeschool family). The ink is not "universal" refill ink, but is the ink for your make and model printer. A brand new black cartridge for my printer costs $28. I bought 8 oz of black ink from Encore Ink, along with the supplies needed to refill, for less than $25, and it will refill my cartridge something like 8 or 10 times. Encore Ink has great, speedy service, and wonderful support. HTH, ChrisN
  5. I have 6 dc, too, who are now ages 8 to 21. For a LONG time, the only things we did outside of home were church (Sunday and Wednesday) and a local homeschool recreational baseball league (all the kids at the same time in the same place on night a week) on Friday nights in the spring and a similar league for soccer on Saturday mornings in the fall. Don't feel guilty. The insanity of outside activities appears all too quickly... we 4H once a month 8 yrs ago that was very-well led by a mom from our church, added piano lessons a year later (the teacher came to my house for 3 or 4 years)... and now it's absolutely crazy.... I won't even go there, lest I feel like pulling my *own* hair. Stay home; relax and enjoy. :-) ChrisN
  6. My dd finished the course except for the one activity she was working on, and I sold my set. She LOST the activity sheet I had photocopied for her, so I'm here to ask if someone would mind sending/faxing/emailing me a copy of one of the activities. You can send a PM or email teachingsix@bluefrog.com. I really appreciate it! ChrisN
  7. If he's young, I'd call the doc now. If he's older, I'd let him call it.
  8. Tracy, There's a book called "The Family Cow" which would probably be very helpful to you. My ds works on a dairy farm -- not all dairy farmer give their cows hormones (this one doesn't), and antibiotics aren't ever given as a matter of course, but only when needed (to treat mastitis is the most common reason). I can tell you you'd want a Jersey because they give the least amount of milk (and I think they have the highest butterfat content -- but the book would give you all those details). HTH, ChrisN
  9. I read this board fairly regularly and post on occasion. Most of the time, someone else has already said what I would say, and done a much better job of it. This is our 17th year homeschooling -- oldest graduated in 2006 and dc at home are 12th, 11th, 7th, 5th, and 3rd. I appreciate the many, many helpful things I've learned here. ChrisN in NY
