  1. I recommend alpha phonics it will teach her all sounds of the english language and it will challenge her this is what my oldest did at four who was also very advanced Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Burn out is VERY real and it does not show now it shows up later on when they get older. Right now they just do as we say it shows up in the teen years. By then its too late to start over. Best wishes and becareful! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Only time will tell how this acceleration will affect young children. As for me I am OUT of this race. My kids are enjoying being kids and I am enjoying being a mom! My brother got into Harvard and at six we were playing outside! That was our curriculum! while some were doing work! And our friends that were doing work did NOT get into Harvard. They were burnt out well before that. Burnt out is a real phenomena. More work and acceleration does not equal success. Its beyond that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I agree but I think there is a huge misconception in his forum that more is better that advancement is better. Every situation is different. The question to ask does that child love learning? Or the moment that child has free reigns will they run as far as they can from books? The experience the child is having at home will be a memory that will last a lifetime. This could be a good or bad thing it all depends on what you are doing at home. Scarcity thinking is the belief that more is better. It is not letting a kid be bored but its also not exploiting. There has to be balance in all that is done. In Finland children do not start school until seven bit despite this late start by the age of 15 they out perform most countries in international assessment and yes this includes the United States. So in Finland a child's curriculum at six is PLAY. and they still are among the smartest in the world. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I am taking it slow even though my child is advanced. We do bot do more than one hour of school a day. Childhood is too short and adulthood a whole life time. I want my kids to enjoy being a kid. Seems like alot of people here are in a race! My kids play and do interest led stuff all day. I could move my four year old to first grade level math right now since she is done with k level but I decided not to. There is no rush. Only because they can do something does not mean they should. We all need to take into account emotional maturity and how all this will affect child inside. Best wishes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Some of your children are doing third grade and fourth grade work in first grade at what age did you start that a six year old would be doing such advanced work? At that pace they will be done with elementary at 8. Will you move on your kids to middle school subjects at that point? I think certain mental maturity is needed for those higher levels. Just curious!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Does anyone here try classical conversations coop? Do you think it is very demanding for kids and for you? I went to visit and saw four year olds memorizing things they would never understand like communitative property multiplication and other facts that ate very abstract and beyond their understanding. I think memory work is valuable but I am just concerned about filling my young childs brain with facts just because she can memorize it. I like the science and fine arts projects with other children. I am afraid to pay for this and then be overwhelmed and add stress to our homeschool schedule. Let me know your thoughts and experience! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Sounds great! So do you suggest the online course or the spines? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Has anyone used Veritas Press? If please share your experience. I know it starts at second grade level has anyone used it with first grade. It is all online? I hear its a very good curriculum and that it is classical in nature and you can buy the time line cards similar to classical conversations. Id love to hear more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Thanks for all your responses. I have decided to wait one more year until she is six because I do not want to start something she will not fully understand like dates, wars, the whole concept of history is very abstract for a child that young. I will most likely be doing unit studies based on things she can grasp such as community helpers, grade level biographies, History and Geography readers. Abeka has one called My America and My World. You just read aloud. This would be more age appropriate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Can you all tell me what the abbreviations stand for ELTL, WWE,AAR,AAS,OPGTR, TOG, ETC, RLTL? I am new to the forums and I feel like you all talk a different language!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Thank you all for your comments they have been very helpful I think I will put MUS aside and see how everything flows with Singapore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. This is amazing!!! Congratulations!! Alot of hard work indeed how did you manage to achieve all of this with six kids? Did you have any help?
  14. I love alpha phonics its less than 30 dollars and its the only book you will need to teach phonics. It teaches all 144 sounds of the English language. No colors, not fun just hard core phonics that works. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. My four year old finished math U see primer, she will be five soon. I do not want to Move her along too fast Math U See was easy for her. Should I move her on to Math U See Alpha which is next level? Or change gears and do Singapore Math? Can you tell me your experiences with advanced math learners? I was thinking of waiting until September do start first grade math but this would mean four months with no math. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
