  1. I looked at the AG and think it might be just what we need. Thank you so much for your input....
  2. He is familiar with grammar up to about a 4th grade level (I think.) He writes decently if just a basic blurb of information is required, still struggles with spelling though. I would like the lesson to be written into the text, but I will be available for clarification and questions.
  3. I have a 15 year old boy who is a very hands on learner and outside type of kid. He is a strong reader and finally willing and wanting to start a more "classical" program. What I am looking for is a language program that starts slowly with the basics, is self-teaching, and progresses rapidly. Do you have any suggestions?
  4. Amen to get rid of/limit extremely the screen time. Let him be bored for awhile. Boredom lets the brain have time to begin to ponder things he may have never thought of before, like what he might be interested in learning about. His morning routine should definately include some family work time. What are his chores, responsibilities, etc? Is he doing these things? Can help fix lunch? Play with younger children.
  5. It's not that he "still struggles," it's that he for the first time realizes that spelling is important and that maybe he should do some spelling drills to improve his skills. I don't know if this makes a difference compared to we have been working hard and struggling for years.
  6. for my 14 yos who is still struggling. We want to buy 3-8th grade books that he can do on his own, self-explanatory, work on a few hours a day, for a couple of months, and then move on. We liked Sequential, except that I had to always be there with him. He just wants to be able to work on his own for large chuncks of time/day. I'm thinking of self-contained workbooks with word list, phonics rules, and activities that get you writing the words over and over again. Price is important. I am considering CLP because of this. ANy other suggestions?
