  1. We had sun today! Which made the snow very sparkly, and my walking a bit slower. 1.2mi in 30min.
  2. We are going to be godparents in two weeks!
  3. I did not finish decluttering the bathroom, but did finish the wash stand. I will be glad when this room is done. With a family of 5 and one bathroom, I have yet to get a session of decluttering in but what someone doesn't need to kick me out to use it. I am also trying to pack up all the Christmas things as well. And do school and cancer treatments. I don't think I will have much time for decluttering come February when I start radiation. That will take about 3 hours out every weekday for 6 weeks. Plan for next week: Go through the medicine cabinet and under the sink. The bathroom will be fully decluttered at that point. If I have the time and energy, will start working on the laundry room. Only a few items to toss this week, not a whole bag. While I was cleaning up Christmas things, I found one book to donate. Bags tossed this year: 1
  4. We got about 4 inches of snow the other night, and temperatures are now in the 20s. Walks were kept short due to the need to find better ways to keep my hands warm. 20 minutes yesterday, 15 minutes today. I tell myself walking through snow counts just as much, even if it is not as long, because it is a trudge walking through it.
  5. Now that the holidays are over, and things are starting up again, I have to pay closer attention to when things happen. My walk needs to happen by 3, so I can come in and cook dinner before everyone goes to TKD. Yesterday, I chose relationships over exercise. My walk didn't happen in the afternoon, so I made dinner and everyone went to TKD, except ds because he was getting over being sick. Instead of getting on the treadmill, I called a lady I haven't seen in church for a long time and played Crazy 8's with ds. Today, I got outside before it started pouring, and did 1.8mi in 30min.
  6. @Terabith I share your president posts with my oldest son, who has had a thing for presidential trivia since he was a kid. He found your phrase "he was a jerk, but also not enough of a jerk to be particularly interesting" to be brutal, in the best way possible. 😄
  7. Cold and windy today, but I did my 30min. Strava gave me a ribbon for longest walk so far at 1.73mi. I may not get my walk in tomorrow due to an appointment for me in the morning, and well child visits for all the kids in the afternoon. 😕
  8. This week, I have had sick kids. They are all taking turns. Fortunately, it does not involve vomiting, but it does involve waiting on them, making jello, broth, rice, etc. Also medical appointments and family gatherings. I did not manage to declutter every day, but I did declutter the floor-to-ceiling cupboard in the bathroom. I also organized and corralled things in baskets I picked up from Dollar Tree, but I still need to label them. I found one bottle of children's medicine that expired in 2019, and bath toys. Nobody here has had a bath in four years. Also, a few Pull-Ups. Youngest child is almost 8. I think it is ok to let them go. 😆 Tossing 1 bag. For next week: Clean out old fashioned washstand in bathroom and under sink. This will finish the bathroom.
  9. Temperatures are back in the mid-thirties, and this afternoon was a bit breezy. I'm glad I added some long johns to my layers. 30 minutes, 1.6 mi.
  10. I'm in the old school dish cloth camp, too, and switch them out every day because I can't stand the smell of a nasty dish cloth.
  11. I have no idea. I do the same thing, too.
  12. It finally stopped raining. A brief show of sun this morning, and then the typical January grey for my walk this afternoon. But it was dry. And there were chatty chickadees to cheer me up. 30minutes, 1.6mi.
  13. Sigh. It seems like there have been so many medical appointments lately. They are all an hour away, so that is 3 hours out of the day, which makes it more challenging to get a walk in. Despite having to take dd to the orthodontist (only 30min away), I did manage to get on the treadmill for 30min, since outside is cold and rainy.
  14. Starting to feel more like myself, and happy that it will not be taken away by chemo this week. 😊 Walked 1.6mi in 30min. I might have gone a little faster if I had not been distracted trying to identify the large bird of prey that was watching me walk circles.
  15. I've only relatively recently been hanging out on the chat boards, and have been inspired by these goal posts(ha!) Thanks,@Granny_Weatherwax! Formally setting goals is something new to me. I've written some down in a notebook, but what I really need help with accountability-wise is decluttering. My goal for the year is to go through the whole house, attic to basement. Last month, the Messies Manual was mentioned in a thread here. I picked it up, and wow, it's like she knows how my brain works! She recommends the Mt. Vernon method for an hour a day. Right now, I am in between chemo treatments and radiation, and I don't know exactly when radiation will start, or how that is going to effect me. They tell me it will make me tired. I have a hard time envisioning doing an hour every day. I think that at the most I can do 30 minutes, and at the very least, I can do a drawer or shelf. For January, I will work on the bathroom and the laundry room because I highly doubt I am going to run into any emotionally charged items. In addition to keeping track of how many days I decluttered, what rooms have been fully decluttered, I suppose I could keep a tally of bags of items tossed/donated and books donated. Because I have a book problem.
  16. I walked a bit earlier today, so as to avoid the coming rain. I'm so grateful today went better than yesterday - 30min, 1.6mi.
  17. It was almost 60 today, so most of the snow is melted, though a few drifts still remain. Walking today was just harder than it should have been, and I usually feel pretty good once I get started, but today it just wasn't happening. I'm going to chalk it up to having had treatment 10 days ago, and trust it will be better tomorrow. Covered 1.1mi in 22min.
  18. It has been challenging getting walking in between family gatherings and medical appointments, and just being tired. It took me almost 30min to walk a little over a mile today, but half of that is due to having to walk through somewhat deep, rather wet snow. It's getting warmer over the next few days so my trail should be getting easier to navigate.
  19. With this set of treatments, I feel great the day after, so yesterday I did not exercise, but did a lot of housework because I knew it was going to be the last time I felt good enough to do that sort of thing before Christmas. The National Weather Service says we are experiencing a blizzard, and looking out my window, I tend to agree with them. Fortunately, there is not much snow accumulation, but with 30mph winds pretty much all day, and stronger gusts, I opted to use the treadmill today. 30min, 1.3mi. I am very grateful we still have power. It went out for half a minute early this morning and has flickered a bit occasionally since then.
  20. Dh loves 7 Layer Bars. This looks like the recipe I got from dmil. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/9889/seven-layer-bars/
  21. My energy has been kind of low today. Dh asked for a suggestion for dinner (which he would cook) and even thinking about that was more energy than I could muster. But, once outside, where it wasn't too cold or windy, and dry, and I started feeling better. 30min, not quite 1.5mi. I'm thinking perhaps over the next week, it might be wise to split it up, doing a shorter walk in the morning and one in the afternoon, since dh has work off and we're not trying to do school for the next 2 weeks. I probably will not have the chance to do a walk tomorrow, since treatment now is mostly an all day affair, what with dropping the kids off with grandparents, travel time, 5+ hours at the cancer center, and since we're in the city, we usually do a short grocery trip for items we can't get closer to home.
  22. Thank you for your thoughtful post. I appreciate your perspective - a lot. The most comforting thing anybody ever said to me after my diagnosis was, "I had that, too." I think I have been almost ridiculously positive so far, chugging along, doing the next thing that needs to be done. My energy levels have been taking a gradual decline, which I was told was to be expected. It's one thing to have knowledge; it's different having to live it out. Mostly it's just gotten to the point where I'm just tired of being tired. Fortunately, this, too, shall pass.
  23. Sigh. I am just starting to get worn down. I know I should be happy Wednesday is my last treatment and all that, but I am tired and I'm not bouncing back like I was a few months ago and I know I will be in worse shape this week in terms of fatigue and bone pain. I guess the good thing is it will be Christmas and I'll be distracted enough to maybe notice it less. Anyhow, had some joint pain this afternoon, so I didn't try pushing it, but did almost 1.5mi in 30min. We live in a rural area, but on a main thoroughfare that is particularly unpleasant to walk along in winter, so my "trail" is a .2mi loop in our backyard. I was able to shift my focus from dwelling on my fatigue to what sort of little nature journal entry I could compose for Strava.
  24. Took my walk yesterday, but did not post because I needed to get ready for dd's classical guitar recital - 30min, 1.5mi. Today, my goal was just to get out there. Also, I learned that I need to be better dressed when it's in the 20's and breezy. Because even when moving, dang, it is cold. A little less than 30min, 1.3mi.
  25. Scraping ice can be a workout all in itself! How thoughtful of you to take care of your neighbor's pavement, as well.
