  1. It is nice to know there is no hard and fast rule about what cheese to use. Smoked Gouda is intriguing...
  2. For some reason, I had not thought of Kraft American. Dh does not understand my appreciation of grits, and would really not understand why I would bring "plastic cheese" into the house.
  3. Those of you down South, what kind of cheese do you put in your grits? I had kind of a gap year when I was college-aged, and went down to Atlanta to volunteer at a homeless shelter. They made grits, and they were delicious, served with butter, a hard boiled egg, and government issued American cheese. I have tried to recreate this at home, but Velveeta isn't the same. Cheddar is ok, but definitely not the same.
  4. It is interesting, for sure. With me and my sister, our parents were divorced when we were little. She looks back, and says, "I can't believe Dad did that!" and holds it against him. I shrug my shoulders and say he did the best he could. Sometimes it is the grace of God. With what dh went through as a kid, I think a lot of people would have figured out a way to give up on life, ie. drugs, very poor life choices, etc. And for some reason, he did not. I don't think you can really predict what will have an impact on a person, because it can be as insignificant as an offhand comment. Nor can you predict how a kid will internalize situations they have to deal with.
  5. Huh. I didn't see Cache here - https://killedbygoogle.com/
  6. A twenty minute walk in the backyard, since it was so nice out. It doesn't sound like much, but I really pushed myself.
  7. According to this book, everywhere the cow says Moo.
  8. I put in a good 20 minutes of leg work. I was too tired afterwards to do any pattern practice.
  9. Trail Guide to US Geography has different levels. https://geomatters.com/collections/trail-guide-to-geography
  10. I did squats on Monday, and am still experiencing some doms. Took a 30 min. walk on the treadmill, since it has been cold, grey and rainy all day.
  11. Quote from Conclusion: "The time to sustained alleviation of all signs and symptoms of Covid-19 did not differ" (I bolded the key word here.) Just from my personal experience. Paxlovid probably did not decrease how long I had Covid. It did however, get rid of the Covid headache after one dose, which for me is totally worth it. It decreased my misery from about a 9 to a 7 on the misery scale.
  12. Peach/quince fruit leather? We make an applesauce/strawberry fruit leather with the dehydrator.
  13. I couldn't find the original, but found a xerox copy someone made of it in the 80's, which will explain why they are so difficult to read.
  14. They would probably be really good mixed with something else for fruit leather. Given my mother's description of hand cream, they probably have a high amount of pectin, too.
  15. I have a quince recipe book from 70 years ago. My mother says it had a recipe for a wonderful hand cream, which felt kinda gross because it was slimy, but worked wonders. I'm guessing it is probably more work than you would like. I'll spend some time this morning to see if I can find it. ETA: Unfortunately, I can't find it. It was a small pamphlet put out by a local farm. They have long since pulled up any quince trees, so they are difficult to come by now. I'll bookmark this thread, and post some photos if I do come across it. I have my grandmother's cookbooks, and they are jammed with newspaper clippings and index cards, so I just may have missed it somehow.
  16. I spent 10 minutes on pattern practice and 20 minutes lifting weights.
  17. Maybe vintage? https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=vintage+nylon+nightgown+long&_sacat=0
  18. Just got in from a 30 minute walk outdoors. There is the promise of spring. Fragrant purple wild violets have replaced the snowdrops. And I spotted the first two dandelions.
  19. I have read that the cream in the UK is different than what we can get in the US. The idea of spreading cream onto a bun is a little bit mind-blowing.
  20. Yup. Born in the 70s, but do not really remember them. The 80s I remember well. Both the scratch n' sniff stickers, and the way Strawberry Shortcake smelled.
  21. When I was a kid, my mother used to pour leftover cold tea into her snake plant. I didn't know if that's what you're "supposed" to do, but her plant never seemed to be the worse for it.
  22. This reminds me of when some church ladies wanted to fix us dinner when dd14 was born. We told them we were vegetarian and got chicken and biscuits, because chicken is vegetarian, right? 😂
