  1. Could you tell me a little about this chemistry class?
  2. Has anyone heard of or used this school for classes? I’m particularly looking at geometry. I just heard about this today for the first time. Any one know anything about it?
  3. Anyone have recent reviews on Geometry at Wilson Hill or Veritas Press. Teacher would be Pepin at WHA. Susan Klein at VPSA. Thanks! Edited to add that we might be able to do the class with Lindsey Church at WHA also.
  4. Thanks everyone. She has used CLE from 3rd-6th and is currently using it now. The reason I’m considering R&S honestly is the oral and mental drills in the TM. She really is a good math student and doesn’t need constant review. I’ve heard that BJU adds more conceptual stuff than the other 2, which is why that’s up for grabs. I’ve looked at the samples. For some reason, CLE looks better than R&S. I’m sure they are all fine. I’d kind of like a program that could be prealgebra if she flies through it and understands it. One thought was doing R&S or CLE 7 and as much of 8 as we could if we feel she’s ready to go to Algebra in 8th. I have a friend that did CLE 7/8 in one year for that purpose. I’d only do that if it is easy for her. She could probably handle prealgebra next year but I’m not wanting to rush things.
  5. Hi - I am trying to decide on a good math program for next year. This child doesn’t struggle with math, though she doesn’t enjoy it. I plan to put her in pre-algebra with Schole Academy in 8th grade. I am considering BJU Fundamentals of Math, Rod and Staff 7 or CLE 7. Any thoughts? I will probably supplement a little with Math Mammoth and/or Life of Fred just to get a different look at math. Would any of these help prepare my DD more for prealgebra? She’s been using CLE for the most part in elementary.
  6. Has anyone had any experience with the government class through Memoria Press Academy?
  7. I got nervous because no one has signed up for the Kepler American lit class so I signed her up for American lit with Excelsior. The teacher is Jess Woods and I’ve heard great reviews.
  8. https://www.buildingbrilliantmindsonline.com My daughter is taking one of these architecture classes in the fall. The teacher has been great to respond to all of my questions quickly. We are super excited for her to try this out.
  9. Does anyone have suggestions for biographies that are available on audible? They can be for students or just for an adult listener. Either is fine. Thanks!
  10. Thanks. And no, we’ve never used Excelsior before. I’m seeing good reviews for the lit teacher but haven’t been able to find anything on this history teacher, so thanks for your thoughts.
  11. Any reviews on Excelsior for American Lit with Jess Woods or American History with Becky Frank?
  12. Can anyone recommend a Lit Only online class for 7th grade? I don’t need comp at all, though it’s fine if they have to write a few papers - we will just have the actual instruction elsewhere. I know about and am not interested in: Wilson Hill Memoria Press Angelina Stanford (due to wait list) Center for Lit thanks for any suggestions!!
  13. I’ve signed my daughter up for the American Lit class next year with Christine Norvell. The class looks great. Has anyone else taken a look at this?
  14. Which of these history texts are more enjoyable for a 7th grader? And why? A History of US - Hakim All American History - Rakes I would be supplementing with additional books either way.
  15. Has anyone had a student in the Veritas Press live online US history class? Any reviews?
  16. I’ve been considering TOG for next year. My hesitation is that the rhetoric level books all seem to be the same - and very dull at that. I’m assuming that hasn’t been your experience? Can you tell me about those books and why your kiddos have enjoyed them? I’m speaking mostly about the Norton history books.
  17. I really appreciate your honesty. This is really good info.
  18. Thanks! Yes, I’ve listened to the samples and he definitely stands out to me and I’ve read such great reviews of his teaching!
  19. Hi - does anyone have a favorite teacher for this class at WTMA? The two I’m deciding between are Jessica Otto and Thomas Hummel. If you have any general thoughts about this class, that would be helpful as well. My student is doing WWS 1 now but we’re only 5 lessons in. She did the placement test with WTMA and they recommended EW2. We’ll keep doing book 1 the rest of the this year. (I posted some of this on the logic board but thought it might help for it to be here)
  20. If it helps - the two teachers I am deciding between are Otto and Hummel. I’m also considering W&R at Schole Academy. Books 5&6.
  21. Hi - does anyone have a favorite teacher for this class at WTMA?
  22. Thank you so much for this! Very helpful. We’ve got it narrowed down to two options next year - one being My Fun Science with Bethany. This definitely helps me think things through.
  23. I know this is an old thread but I’ve been trying to find reviews of this Geometry class at My Fun Science with Bethany Barnosky. Did you end up having a student take this? If so, how was it?
  24. Hi - I am trying to find a Spanish curriculum for my student that is credit worthy and not awful, but not the most rigorous thing out there. We don’t want live online, as we already have 3 of those. I know the two I’m asking about likely aren’t favored on this board, but I thought I’d ask anyway. Thoughts on ACE Spanish with DVDs (Cathy Duffy has good things to say about it so it added it to my list) The other one is something like Switched on Schoolhouse Thoughts?
