  1. My daughter dislikes art (my 6th) so I did plan to use same Artistic Pursuits with all of them. I thought she may get more enjoyment out of helping my littles and picking up some art appreciation books then forcing her own curriculum. Plus the advantage of group work/teaching. Glad to hear the handwriting only stays ugly for a bit. We were in a quandary about the handwriting because they currently use Zaner Bloser at school and we cannot read our third grader's writing at all. He is my only lefty although my four year old shows signs of being ambidextrous. Thanks for the encouragement about choices! I am petrified! I want them to enjoy learning and am showing the kiddos our considerations as we go. I figure if they feel they had some input into what they study we may end up further ahead. Hence the earth science and astronomy before biology although my 6th grader would love an easy year repeating biology. It is so hard to look at the cost of some of these programs and just KNOW that some of them will end up not working! That is why I am so excited about all the responses to this thread! You guys have been here and done this and I appreciate all of your time!
  2. I will be checking all of these out! I definitely want an in depth grammar program as that is one of our concerns at their current school. Thanks!
  3. Thanks! This was going to be a future question for my new friends... plan it all ahead, or week by week? I really like the idea of having it all done, maybe needing to make adjustments as we go then spending all of my very little mom time planning things out!
  4. I do not have any homeschooling experience at all and in fact just posted my own freak out post! But you are a mom, you know your kids better than anyone! If what you are doing is not working, not making you or your kids happy, then it seems to me the trash is where it belongs! Once you find something you like, that you think that your kids will enjoy and you start more formally instructing them again, it will be a whole new world!!!! School won't be a moment for dread but something to celebrate and to remind yourself why you started down this path in the first place! Life is learning, you do not stop just because you do not have a formal text in front of you. Imagine the joy in your home when everyone is happier through the day and give yourself time and space to find what will be best.... I hope it all works out for you and your kids!
  5. Hello All! I am planning on homeschooling my kids this year and am working through TWTM. However, my husband wants curriculum purchased well ahead of time so that we can plan effectively. I would really appreciate your thoughts on what we have chosen. Luckily she loves that as we already do so for an hour a day. She is an average student and benefits from one on one instruction as she is easily distracted. We plan on schooling year around and will start slowly after a brief break in June. We really want them to learn Latin but neither of us speak it except for what used to be needed in church services. They are all active in Taekwondo and my oldest son competes nationally. We plan on getting them into other extra curriculars after we have settled into homeschooling. To say that I am overwhelmed at the minute is probably an understatement! I really appreciate your help! Thanks!!
