  1. Hero Tales by Dave and Neta Jackson have short stories about Missionaries (there are 4 volumes) - my ds, 9, loves them and they even have longer stories but I am not sure the name - maybe Trail Blazers by Dave Jackson. For memory work, I just have my son work on Sunday School verses as well as a Psalm - we add a verse a week until we have the chapter done.
  2. My son did the pre level 1 chemistry Real Science in 1st grade and he really learned a lot from it. I love the colorful pictures and the approach in teaching it to elementary school students. My brother in law, sister and mother are in the medical field and have obviously studied all the sciences. They all are very impressed on how the information is presented and the hands on experiments. My son will be in 4th grade in the fall and we are going to be using the Level 1 books. My son cannot wait to start working through the books.
  3. I report my 180 days and I do a limited schedule over the summer. Math review, writing and reading. We also do special activities over the summer. This summer we are going to build some boats - I hope. DS has a couple kits to build. We also tend to do more activities - Museums and stuff like that.
  4. I clean by floors. We have a two story house (I never go into the basement - husbands territory). Monday's - laundry, vacuum and dust the first floor, clean the kitchen (well), clean the powder room Tuesday's - upstairs bathroom and vacuum and dust the upstairs Wednesday's - wipe down the counters in kitchen and any touch ups that need to be done on the first floor and clean up the entry way Thursday's - this is our Co-op day, wipe powder room down Friday - sheets, any other laundry, clean laundry room and iron anything that needs to be ironed
  5. I do not do laundry on Saturday or Sundays. Mondays I do as many loads as necessary. We only have piano lessons on Mondays. Then I do loads as needed. Sheets on Friday. For 6 months of the year we hang out the laundry, whether permitting, and my son does help with that.
  6. I shop every two weeks. I look at the schedule for those two weeks and see if there is any scheduled gatherings where food will be served or if there are extra guests for dinner at our house (i.e. our small group from church eats together every time we meet and my brother in law has dinner here once a week). Then I look at the other activities - baseball, soccer, music and determine how many "quick meals" I need. Then I make a list - I do put a meal down for each day; however, we do not always eat them on the assigned day. I see what we have at the house and then plan. It is not that those 10-14 meals have to be on the days I wrote them down on - but it lets me purchase only what I need. When we have used that meal it gets crossed off. At the end of the two weeks whatever is not crossed off becomes the starting point for the next two weeks. HTH
  7. We stayed at SoG 4 years ago. We went down with my dad, who is retired military. We loved our trip and if ever given the option we would stay there again. For meals, we got breakfast sandwiches at the area right before the bus depot. Very well priced and were pretty good. We then took snacks for the park and ate dinner at one of the restaurants. We were only there for 4 days but had no issues whatsoever. We ate at the buffet, which was not horrible and we ate once at the other restaurant - not impressed with that one. Never ate at the Italian one. I think we made our dinner reservations through SoG - not sure because my dad had made them before we arrived. We combined this with a conference that my mom had to attend. Other friends of hers who attended the conference shared the cost for there trip and our crew was definitely staying much cheaper than any of the other people. I do hope you have a great time with your family and husband. We were there during an off peak time and we never had an issue with the buses.
  8. I would put some money away to go out for a nice dinner with my husband for our wedding anniversary and plan a trip to the Great Wolf Resort for the family and put the rest into savings. It would definitely make me feel better and I would have a great time with the family.
  9. We do math and grammar 3 days a week during the summer. My son participates in a bowling league one day and then the 5th day is open. We take one full week off in June, July and August and that is our lighter load and our break. :001_smile:
  10. I too agree that you it depends on your child. For my son, we used the Core K from SL for K and then started SOTW. He has enjoyed both very much.
