  1. Benedictine (cream cheese, cucumber mix) moist and tasty.
  2. I was involved with a cookie exchange a couple of years ago and they had a rule - no chocolate chip cookies. I don't know why, except maybe they were afraid everyone would bring them. I would go with something with a hook to catch people's interest. Below link is a grinch cookie. I've not made them, but they look good. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/68750331783213856/
  3. My brother had a pet snake when we were kids, so I don't have a problem with a pet snake. I think your biggest problem is when she goes off to college. Would she be willing to find another home for it when she goes to college? If so, I think you should get it. I would suggest that you slowly, slowly get to know the snake, so you can deal with it in case of an emergency. They aren't as bad as people imagine.
  4. You should keep the receipts for what you paid to have everything fixed. You might call customer service back and tell them what you are going to do and ask if you can expect them to reimburse you. I would tell them that you can't wait on the water and the trash. I think it is always best to get the company to agree ahead of time to what you plan to do. Get the name of the person you talk to and write down the day and time you called.
  5. I make fake presents. Empty boxes wrapped up. You can put funny tags on them. From: Santa From: E. Scrooge
  6. You are wise to start looking now. We bought a very nice tree from Kmart several years ago. We had a little white tree, but wanted a more traditional green one (at least my DH did). It was 2 or 3 days before Christmas on sale at least 60% off. Make sure you know how tall your ceiling is (don't eyeball it). We got the type of lights with white flame shaped bulbs they have a diamond patter on them. They are 'nicer' lights. I've never was worried about the trunk with the tree skirt and packages you really don't see it. Our tree limbs come down so low it is difficult to fit packages under it. I have 'fake' packages that I put around the tree until we have real packages.
  7. Gift card to some place he might eat lunch? Panera. Chipolte. Or if there is a local bookstore or local music store?
  8. I think this is one of many reasons that both spouses need at least one card in their own name.
  9. 100,000 to 500,000. If someone makes around 500,000, they could describe it as low to mid if they wanted to downplay it. If they wanted to leave you guessing they might say just 6 figures which would be 100,000 to 999,000.
  10. PBS.org and hulu.com both have lots of Nova episodes.
  11. I prefer Serena. My first thought was "Serenity Now" which is a Seinfeld reference. I also think it is the name of an adult diaper. So because of those references I wouldn't pick it as a first name. I think it wouldn't be bad as a middle name, because most people don't pay much attention to middle names. If there is a person you love with that name, then you can overcome any the negative connections with a name.
  12. One thing that might be helpful. We often have raw veggies cut up and set out before dinner. It is funny how a plate of cucumbers, carrots, celery will disappear in the 15 minutes before you set down for dinner.
  13. We used to have a life size Captain Kirk. My DH owned it when we got married. For a while it was stationed looking out our garage window. Then for some reason we put it on a friends front porch on his birthday. It has since traveled around a bit. We don't know where he is now in his five year journey to explore new planets, to bravely go where not cardboard cut out has gone before....
  14. There was a car drive through a taco restaurant near us last year. It is such a weird thing.
  15. Oh I disagree. People don't have to know sports. Lots of people know nothing about sports even in areas of the country that a sports mad. It just doesn't really matter. Now some people would like that to be true, as an excuse to watch sports but doesn't matter.
  16. So if you want to watch something on the other tv for several hours and the kids want to watch with you, then that would be okay with your husband? I would just stop what I was doing whenever football was on TV and go into the other room and relax and watch tv for the exact same amount of time.
  17. I like Martha Stewart too. She does cover lots of different things - gardening, crafts, cooking. We also like Mother Earth and Organic Gardening.
  18. You know that as soon as you replace it, your sister will return it to you or your DH will find it at the back of some closet it that it was accidentally moved to. Then you'll have two of them. Three times a year, that would be worth it. Once a year, maybe not.
  19. Never boxed. Real. Used Ricer. Added Sour Cream, Cream Cheese, Heavy Cream, Salt (and tomorrow butter). Delicious.
  20. We have a pug/beagle mix (puggle?). He has the energy of a beagle, but the love of comfort of a pug. We also have a big yard, but our dog also loves walks. He gets a long walk every day (an usually poops on the walk) so it involves taking along those poop bags. Dogs need consistency, so can you commit to walking the dog about the same time every day? This was the one thing we didn't fully think through. Otherwise, he's a perfect fit for us. You might want to put the word out to your Vet. Vets often are brought lost dogs to be checked out and can help you identify ones that are might fit your family.
  21. My first thought is that stuff they give to celebrities at those big awards shows. Second thought Pirates booty. Three thought is cool awesome stuff ie like from Parks and Rec.
  22. So you are probably too nice to send her articles about 'thinning hair in women'. Just saying, that you are probably way too nice to do that. Oh you know, because maybe she has some friends her age with that issue.
