  1. I have a friend from Greece that is planning on moving to Canada within this next year. Her son is in 8th grade in Greece. He can speak some English and understands even more. She is wanting to homeschool him to prepare him for the move. Do you know of any curriculum that you could recommend for this situation?
  2. Thanks so much for all your advice. I think we are going to focus on the new language since that is what he has to do in school. Besides, it will be good practice for me & help my language skills as well.:001_smile:
  3. We are currently living in overseas and to help my children learn the language we have enrolled them in the public schools here. My ds is 7 and in 1st grade. He was just beginning to read before we left the states. He now struggles with reading in both languages and gets easily frustrated. Should we focus on reading in the new language (very phonetic) or should we focus on reading English? We want him to succeed in both. Any suggestions?
  4. We are planning a trip to DC in October. We have a 4th grade dd and 2 ds ages 5 and 2. We only have 1 day (maybe 2) to see things. I am looking for suggestions of places to visit that are age appropriate for my kids as well as educational. Any suggestions?
  5. I purchased Teaching Character Through Literature from Beautiful Feet. It is a wonderful resource! The lessons focus on character traits from the stories and applies Scripture as well. My dd is loving it! I am not sure the ages of your children, but it can be ordered for primary or intermediate levels.
  6. When I taught PS 5th grade, I really tried to stress the importance of knowing basic math and on study skills. They need to know how to find the information they need for reports, etc. We also did lots of writing and reading in the content areas. So, to summarize: 1) math skills 2) study skills 3) writing - creative, reports, persuasive, etc. 4) content area reading
  7. My dd is 9 and will be doing mostly 4th grade work next year. However, she reads well above her age level. My ds #1 is 5 and will be in K. My ds #2 is 2 and will just be tagging along. We are very excited about our move. We will be able to have some awesome field trips for ancient History. It is my plan to put as many books as possible in their hands that are about Greece.
  8. My family will be moving to Greece in the spring of next year. We will also be using SOTW 1 for our History. What are the "must have" books you would recommend on Greece? I am planning on spending a little more time on this section of SOTW so that my kiddos can become familiar with our new home.
  9. For our dd's 1st day of K, we made her favorite breakfast before we started our school day. We weighed her, measured her, and she wrote a poem about herself. We ended the day by taking her to have her picture made professionally and eating out wherever she wanted. My ds starts K this year and I plan to do the same with him.
  10. We love it! My dd (9) has used it for 2 years. Her spelling has really improved. Before SS she would memorize for a test, but now it makes sense to her. Now, she uses correct spelling in her daily writing assignments and is loves to teach her younger brother (5) how to spell.
  11. What did you get from Beautiful Feet? I am getting ready to place an order to them. It's wonderful to hear that you are excited about what you see.
  12. Hi, I am new here, but have been homeschooling for 4 years. My d will be 4th grade in the fall and is a very good student. We used FLL 1/2 in 1st grade, but switched to EG for 2nd & 3rd. We plan on going back to FLL this fall. Where should I begin? Will we miss too much instruction on diagramming if we begin with FLL 4? Any advice on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Karen
