Why can't you? I have some people who take any shared information as a request for them to share their wisdom, insight and advice. I consider it a personal flaw that I'm inclined to silently endure it and then steam over it. I could firmly and politely say I'm not in need of help at this time, or whatever and I'm working on that. (I actually do tell DH, "I don't need advice at the moment, I just need to express what I'm feeling right now." It helps.
