  1. I had ds start with the 3rd Eclectic Reader right after OPGR. We go through the list of words first, then he reads the story out loud to me. I think the length and difficulty is just right for him. It is just challenging enough. Sometimes, I do it the way WTM suggested, having him read the passage three times through to develop fluency. He really likes the stories and doesn't cringe at all when I pull the book out!
  2. Hi Bess, I started with 15 pages, then I realized I was ahead of schedule, so I dropped to about 10-12 a day. Blessings!
  3. Hi there! I thought I would share. I was looking into the 3-month plan at the beginning of this year and I found this link, which I found inspiring! http://www.kjv-asia.com/read_your_bible_.htm I started in January, but I got stuck in Psalms and slacked off. Am starting again. It is definetely a lot of reading, but I loved how I was better able to grasp the flow of the story. I picked up so many more connections by reading chunks at a time instead of a chapter a day type of thing. He makes a good case for reading the Bible this way on the site. Although it is definetely a challenge! Happy reading, whatever plan you choose!
  4. Yay. I was just thinking the other day that it is 6 months until the Christmas season. I almost pulled out a Christmas CD. Almost...
  5. I wear casual dresses and long skirts often. I usually wear flip flops in the summer with them. In colder months, I wear boots or flats. I couldn't find anything in the stores that was comfy enough or fit the way I wanted, so I bought some pretty cotton and a couple of long skirt patterns and made a couple - with help from more experienced seamstresses, since I am not one! :)
  6. I haven't gotten anything truly appalling, but one odd gift does stand out in my mind. My brother got me a teddy bear for my 25th birthday (and I don't collect them or anything). It made me say hmmmmm...
  7. I got a jar of marbles (big and little sizes) for my 3-year-old nephew and my sis-in-law said it was his favorite thing. I know ds loved them at that age too, he still does actually. They put them in cars and trucks, make up games with them, roll them in the bathtub and find oodles of other uses for them...
  8. Ds who just turned 6 is REALLY enjoying Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Also: Mr. Popper's Penguins My Father's Dragon
  9. Hi! New here, and thought I'd offer some confessions... I don't like talking on the phone, and I don't tend to respond immediately to emails. My mom frequently and enthusiastically passes things off to me that she is cleaning out of her house, or that her mom has passed on to her to clean out her house. I smile and thank her and put everything into a box to drop off at the local charity because if I say I don't want them it hurts her feelings. I too, am a toy snob. And just recently I took back two toys sent for ds 6th birthday and used the store credit to buy my own gifts for him. How terrible is that??
