  1. My friend swears by Spelling Power. I am using The Sanborn Speller which I downloaded off of Google Books and I'm working on that with a simple method.... Monday test of all words, Tuesday write all the words correctly that you missed.....Wednesday a sentence with each word...... Thursday quiz.....
  2. What a cool program! I had never seen it before :) Definitely need more time to read all of it. I love the grammar stage though!!
  3. Ok - I just got Henle Year 1 for my 7th grader. Would you start LL at the same time for translation or maybe add it in mid-year? We are starting our 2009-2010 year now (I know it's off but since we go year round it's just what works) so I'm trying to figure out my final plan of action with Latin.
  4. I tried to do more computerized stuff for grading and was trying out some Switched on Schoolhouse. I ditched it all except math. My kids would just sit and click answers until they got the right one and would continue. They can't do that with math ;) so that will work ok - especially the fact it grades the questions and honestly I was tired of grading math for daily work all the time. Purchased the Business Math book from Simply Char. Mason and LOVE IT!! Got the eBook format so I can print it out for both kids and I really think it will help my son see what it takes to run a "business" (even though he does it with his 4-H animals he still doesn't get the real value of money yet) I'm still debating on vocabulary and spelling - but I think I might just work with some lists I have for spelling - at least for my daughter. She's taking sign language locally and she needs to spell the words for next years class. However, I'm still looking (I think that's 1/2 the fun) Most of the rest are all book for our Ambleside Online year (year 3 & 5) and I threw in GrammarLand for both kids.
  5. Hi! I am new to posting around here :) I'm reading the WTM to see how it fits honestly WITH Ambleside. I had heard so much. Last year my kids both did combo years... 1 & 2 for my 9 year old and 3 & 4 for my 11 year old. This year (we just started our new year since we school year round) my daughter is doing year 3 and my son year 5. Personally I buy most of the books - but I also have most all of them on my computer. But I love to "have" books. I'll buy used if I can but I use Amazon most of the time. (I get in too much trouble when I head out to the used book store....and I can't always count on the library to have stuff - but they do have a lot of it) We will also use audiobooks downloaded from Librivox.... my daughter LOVES Our Island Story done that way. For tracking I use homeschool tracker and plan out the week. I try and break everything down for them - especially my daughter because sometimes 1 chapter is daunting for her so I tell her the pages. I don't do much substitution except with Trial and Triumph we use Our Island Saints. I do add Catholic Bible study along with it. I use the free Bible study at Calvery Chapel with our Catholic Bible and my son will do a more in-depth study. We use it because of the literature selection and the fact the lay-out actually has a lot of playing room but it's still laid out for me. Dana
