  1. I too have wonderlust very bad. Since I was a litle girl I have always wanted to live in Ireland. I still want to live there even though it is not the most practical thing to do. If paperwork and expense were not an option I would go. My Irish heritage goes back to many generations to claim citizenship by decent. It is not as easy as just crossing the border and having an anchor baby either to gain citizenship. If it did not seem impossible I would take my family in a heartbeat. It stays in the back of my mind. Maybe one day I will find a way to make it happen.
  2. Thanks for all the hugs. It must just be one of those things that happen. She was only a pullet about 12 weeks old, not yet big enough to lay eggs. I got 2 pullets from my brother this morning. While he was out of town last week some vultures killed off more than half his flock. My nephew let them out of the pen to roam and that is when the vultures got them. Now my brother has to keep his flock penned up because of the vultures. They even saw a vulture get one. His neighbor also lost several to the vultures.
  3. The vet visit was free. We had to bring clover home in a box. She is now buried in the back yard next to our cat. I am so embarrassed to say this. Somehow Clover did not get enough to eat and did not gain weight like she should. We feed them plenty, so I never thought twice about it. I did not realize the big ones would be too greedy and not let the little ones eat enough. Everyone got enough to eat except her. I feel horrible, I never thought to make sure they were growing and gaining weight properly. The vet did come out to look at the others and they are all fine. I am not sure how we failed Clover but we did. They get food, and are free range. I am feeling a lot of guilt at the moment.
  4. Today has been one of those days, it did start out good though. We had errands to run, so it has been a little busy. Sometime this afternoon, I decide to take leftover bread from lunch out to the chickens. Our little pullet Clover was laying over like she was dead. My son was with me, picked her up and said she was alive. It appeared she was breathing her last breath. What is so special about Clover is that my daugher loves her dearly. My daughter puts clover in her wagon and pulls her around the yard. The kids insisted that I take her to the vet. I didn't realize I could have possibly taken her to the university avian department, my brother mentioned I should have done that instead. Luckily my vet is understanding, but the others in the office really looked at me like I had lost my mind. The kids are sitting by the phone just waiting for the vet to give us a call. We have other chickens, but Clover is the one that is special to my daugher.
  5. I have no advice. I do know that some cats can be shy and don't like to go when they know someone is watching. Some will not go if someone is in the same room.
  6. Oil eating microbes have been used in the past successfully. There are many extremely large underwater plumes that containe oil and methane gas pose great risk. Disperants pumped below the surface has kept the oil suspended below the surface. All those chemicals BP has used will cause further environmental damage. As horrible as this sounds, some say BP is not trying to cap the well, but buy time so they can salvage as much oil as possible from this well as they have billions in profit at stake. Some say BP is attempting to channel the gushing oil where it can be captured, stored and reserved. The amout of oil gushing said to be gushing out on a daily basis could fill 52 olympic swimming pools. That is a lot of oil. It has the potential to spread up the Atlantic coast, and all the way to Europe. I read more than 200 sea turtles have been found dead, and that is only the ones counted. I am concerned as to why more locals are not hired to help. It is their own back yard so to speak, yet they are turned away. One would think at least some of the surface oil could be cleaned up with some hay and oil eating microbes. It's simple, cheap, and works fast. it could save wildlife. Instead this just drags on and on. It would appear BP is more concerned about their reputation and profit margin.
  7. Anyone ever find links for this? Our reception is horrible. We are limited to PBS and online TV.
  8. I say it depends on your location, budget, and if you prefer to drive or fly. I would look on the home away from home website. What about Montana?
  9. We had one. We enjoyed it while it lasted. We had to pay a water truck to come fill it up. I fyou fill it yourself, it could cause problems with your well. The filter broke, and it was a nightmare to get another. By the time they decided to send a new one the water was green, and we could not clean it. Then vultures decided they would tear th pool up. We did get to enjoy it all of 3 weeks.
  10. My oldest has moved out, and it is not so bad. he visits at least once a week, sometimes more frequently. When he goes out with his friends, he does not drink. He likes to be alert, and to drive his friends home to make sure they get home safely. He had roommates, and was not impressed, now he lives alone. He manages his money wisely. As hard as it seems children do grow up, and are capable of taking care of themselves. They do much better than we expect.
  11. I don't think these were scary. We have some others in our que. Some that we watched online were: http://www.netflix.com/Movie/David_Attenborough_Wildlife_Specials/70090359?trkid=147042 http://www.netflix.com/Movie/The_Life_of_Birds/60030485?trkid=147042 http://www.netflix.com/Movie/The_Life_of_Mammals/60030710?trkid=147042 http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Life_in_the_Freezer/70041221?trkid=147042 http://www.netflix.com/Movie/The_Blue_Planet_Seas_of_Life_Seasonal_Seas_Coral_Seas/60022507?trkid=147042 http://www.netflix.com/Movie/The_Blue_Planet_Seas_of_Life_Tidal_Seas_Coasts/60022508?trkid=147042 http://www.netflix.com/Movie/The_Blue_Planet_Seas_of_Life_Open_Oceans_The_Deep/60022047?trkid=147042 http://www.netflix.com/Movie/The_Blue_Planet_Seas_of_Life_Ocean_World_Frozen_Seas/60021967?trkid=147042
  12. I am not near the gulf, so I have no first hand experience in what is actually happening. Rumors are swirling about how BP is hiding the truth from the public about how bad the oil spill actually is. I can not confirm or deny any of these rumors, they are just that rumors. I was told dead animals are not properly counted, volunteers are turned away, Rumors say more oil is spilling than anyone realizes, and BP is using solvents to thin the oil. It is claimed this further pollutes the environmental waterways and will cause more acid rain. It is said harmless microbes are available that will clean up the oil spill, and in turn not cause further pollution in the water. I may have been born at night but it was not last night. I know this spill may not be in my back yard, but somehow it will have an huge impact on many lives. It would appear not enough has been done to fix this problem, many are suffering. I keep thinking of those who are out of work because of this and how they are being turned away from working to clean up this mess. Where will the next big oil spill be? It may not happen today, but another one would not shock me. I keep thinking of all the coastline in the gulf, and the oil seeping into the Atlantic. All these rumors are swirling in my head. If you live close to the spill, can you update us on how this is effecting you?
  13. I like jjill, I think they are comfortable. I usually shop the sale and clearance, they have great deals.
  14. I had a friend who had this, and we somehow lost touch. Her insurance paid for the surgery. At first she lost weight fairly quickly, the first week she lost 11 pounds. He weightloss was steady, and she was pleased. Also, before the surgery, she had oxygen therapy at night, and she said that caused dramatic weightloss too. She did not mention that she had complications from it, and said it went well. The weightloss from it motivated her.
  15. I think it was poor taste. It minimizes what the day is all about.
  16. I have not read any of these books but check this out: http://www.beautifulonraw.com/natural-beauty-store/ This lady does not look her age unless these pics are photoshopped. I have been reading a little bit about a raw food diet, and I want to try to eat more raw foods. Carol Alt looks amazing and she eats a raw food diet. Demi Moore i believe eats a raw food diet, and she looks great. I want to get over the addiction t cooked food and go raw. I like taking milk baths and sea salt baths. I do not know how to slow the aging process. I use jojoba oil or grapeseed oil on my face and body. I also use mud mask, or egg mask on my face. I have been a bit slack lately.
  17. Carrot Cake 3 cups all-purpose flour 2 t baking powder 1 t baking soda 1 t cinnamon 1/2 t salt 4 cups freshly grated carrots 2 T fresh lemon zest 2 T fresh orange zest 2 T fresh squeezed orange juice 2 T fresh squeezed lemon juice 1 cup butter room temperature 1 cup regular sugar 1 cup brown sugar 4 eggs room temperature Preheat oven to 350. Butter and flour 2 cake pans set aside. Whisk dry ingredients together set aside. Grate carrots set aside. Zest lemons, and oranges set aside. Squeeze lemon and orange juice set aside. Cream butter and sugars. Add one egg at a time beating well after each addition. Beat in juices and zest. Beat in carrots. Gently beat in dry ingredients until moistened. Do not over mix dry ingredients. Pour into prepared cake pans. Bake about 45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Some people like to add a cup of nuts. When I have fresh organic orange and lemon essential oil I do add 5 drops of each so that is my secret. I top with a homemade cream cheese icing, and add just a touch of lemon to it or a few drops of lemon essential oil. I always say it is not my skills, just the recipe and the ingredients. I use only fresh hand zested organic lemons and organic oranges, only fresh squeezed juices, only organic sugar, cultured European butter, fresh laid eggs from free range hens and King Arthur flour. It cost a small fortune to bake this cake, along with some time to do all the grating and zesting. I think I am going to ask for a food processor for Christmas to do my grating for me. We usually only have this cake when it is his birthday, or he is coming and going out of town. It is his favorite, he will usually come over ever day to eat a piece or take the whole cake with him depending on his mood. The cake is in the oven and now I must start on the rolls.
  18. On the news they said mature trees should be inspected yearly. Anything can make a tree fall over. Some trees like pecan trees, prune themselves. That looks and sounds scary. I am glad no one was hurt.
  19. This guy probably knows more about chickens and farming than anything else. He is probably grateful that he can spell the few words he can, and read as well as he can. It is a shame one of his younger relatives did not volunteer to help him place the ad. As for preschool ads, I would run the other way.
  20. I think I would use natural methods in order to influence the outcome, then be happy with either gender. There are even astrological methods to try. I would not do sperm sorting or medical intervention though.
  21. I am not sure if this applies to the person who posted the add or not. Years ago children had to quit school in order to work and support their family. I would think the youngest from that generation would be in their 60's or 70's. It wasn't talked about much when I was a kid, but there was a farmer who could not read or write, yet he owned a convience store and was not poor. I had a friend in school, her dad only had a third grade education. He had to quit school and take care of his family. I hope this trend stopped at some point. I can't be sure something similar did not apply to this person. They know how to use the internet, so this is really odd.
  22. Plain yogurt can be a good base to add other ingredients.
  23. This brings back memories. My brother used to come with his family over daily with a bag of groceries. Yes, he wanted his little sister to cook his meals. I wish he was around to do that now, it would cut down on my grocery budget.
