    How's everybody doing? It's been a wild couple of weeks. We're fine, though our office staff are mostly working remotely and we're inundated with emails from parents who are suddenly homeschooling.

    We at The Well-Trained Mind have been serving students and parents for over 20 years. In order to help us learn how we can serve homeschoolers well in these unusual times, we're asking you to take this BRIEF (7-minute) online survey.

    Why is talk of CC banned on the WTM facebook page?

    A W.T.M. Press employee here, just chiming in to clarify that this discussion is talking about an unofficial Facebook group called Well-Trained Mind....NOT talking about our company Facebook page (which is facebook.com/welltrainedmind). The moderators of that WTM Facebook group aren't connected with the Press or Susan in any way.

    We haven't banned anybody from our company Facebook page in a long time, and the ones we did ban were folks who denied the reality or distorted the size of certain historical events that happened in Europe in the 1930s and 1940s. Otherwise, we're fairly wide-open in terms of topics.

    Oh, I am sorry that is happening! It doesn't seem to be happening to others; I can't replicate it on my end. But we will absolutely make sure that you get only the items you want, and at the sale price.     Hello Hive,

    Well-Trained Mind Press is in the early stages of revising the book-lists (fiction and non-fiction) in the Activity Book of "The Story of the World, Volume 3." We'll be adding new titles that have come out in the past 15 years (or titles that we missed the first time around!), and deleting some that are so thoroughly out of print that no parent could be expected to find them. We have a plan for doing it that we think will provide a variety of parental viewpoints, and keep any one contributor from getting stuck with too much work.

    We've divided the book into sections (chapters 1-7, 8-14, etc). Each section would pay a little differently, based on how many books we need to find (you'll notice that some sections need a lot more work than others do). Each contributor can do one, two, or three sections, but no more (to spread the work around). Each section will end up being a combination of the work of two contributors plus our editors.

    Time Frame: We will ask you to submit a sample list from a particular chapter, to evaluate your abilities. Your full booklists would be due by mid-to-late January of 2019.

    Here's what we consider a "successfully found" book:- age appropriate
    - period appropriate
    - in print (we make occasional exceptions if it's REALLY good)
    - available in physical form (you can make 1 fiction exception and 1 nonfiction exception per chapter...kindle, etc...but not more than that)
    - relatively easy to find
    - write a one-sentence summary like we did in the first edition

     

    We will provide a PDF of the original booklist, and a PDF of the actual textbook; we have gone through and crossed out the out-of-print ones or ones we want to delete, and we'll tell you how many fiction and nonfiction books are now needed for each chapter (it's usually between 2 and 8 books needed from each genre).

    Hi all...Many of you had asked about Olive Branch Books' Telling God's Story series, and wondered when Year 4 would be available. Well, the wait is over!

    Telling God's Story, Year 4: The Story of God's People Continues is now available as a digital download from Olive Branch Books.

    Author Rachel Stone takes the elementary Bible curriculum into new territory: the Book of Acts and the New Testament Epistles.

    These weekly lessons guide elementary students through the Scripture texts, while also deepening the understanding of parents and teachers. Each lesson provides background information for the teacher and a scripted explanation of the biblical passage designed especially for children to grasp with ease. 

    When combined with the coloring pages, games, and review activities in the Activity Book (also now available as a PDF download), the Instructor Guide provides a whole school-year of religious instruction.

    Hi forums folks...just wanted to let you know that we're running a big sale at Well-Trained Mind Press.     Can these 4 books/years count as high school credits?  I'm wondering because we are doing R&S and currently in book 6 in 8th grade.  DD14 really does not like R&S and we have books 7-10 to go to complete grammar.  I would like to switch over to Grammar for the Well-Trained Mind if it truly is a complete grammar course.  Am I correct in understanding this?

     

    Rod and Staff is grammar and composition, and our curriculum is pure grammar, with no "composition" component--meaning that the books probably will NOT take the 120 hours per year to complete that are necessary for a high school credit. We would suggest awarding a half credit per year for the grammar books and another half credit for writing that the student does using a composition program, in order to come up with a full high school language arts credit.
