  1. I wear Bare Escentuals and have found that Mineral Veil really 'sets' my makeup for the day (of course, not ALL day, but usually 7-8 hours).
  2. Your comments really helped give ME a better perspective on how best to understand my DD. Thank you.
  3. I very much appreciate your situation. While my dd isn't as young, she is 5.5 and works on a higher level and acts more mature- she is likely gifted. I know her capabilities, so its very frustrating when we have those moments (or days) when its as though she can't understand the simplest things. Like you, we don't quit when something is hard, even if we feel like it. :grouphug: We had one of those days today.
  4. I mean seriously doubt as in questioning if this is really feasible for this season w/ our circumstances.
  5. THANKS to everyone. I had no idea- LOL DD does have hs experience- so this isn't new. We hs'd several weeks during summer (she's a rising 1st grader) and it went pretty well, actually. Our school day (w/ breaks, games & read-alouds) is from 9-11:30, but maybe I'm still trying to do too much. I hesitate to work during DS's naps as (1)DD needs the quiet time in her room and (2)I do too. :) DD"s attitude is likely age appropriate/developmental- its not acceptable, but I do understand that its likely 'normal'. She's trying to find her voice/control, and is a fairly bright, precocious kid who picks up on neighbor kiddos attitudes and tries them out at home. She loves the challenge of school, but seems to toss in attitude just because.... DS is intense, homeschooling or not. I've done all the 'planning' I can do to help keep him entertained w/ options- there are special toys, music CD's and he is always invited to work with us. Yet, he seems to be frustrated that I"m not giving him my full attention and then acts out, which means we then have to take a break to discipline etc, then regroup. He will be going to a mother's morning out program 2 mornings a week. I think its necessary for all of us. I was prepared to want to quit later in the year, but not on the 2nd day. I just wonder if all this effort and family sacrifice is really going to be worth it.
  6. Oh wow Kim, you DO understand. Sounds like exactly the same thing- LOL. Funny that you call your youngest a hurricane- my DS is the tornado, particularly when he's dragging small appliances around the house. Can you tell me more about the heart report? That sounds right down our alley...we've been talking, praying & working towards growth in this area.
  7. :glare: Between my DD's bad attitude (who knew that attitudes could be so fierce at 5.5?) & my DS's determination to disrupt & destroy (he's 25 months old, and biologically wired to act this way, I suppose), I'm seriously doubting this HS decision.
  8. Today was our first day of school after a busy weekend. While it physically hurt my head to keep DD5 on task w/ schoolwork while corralling DS2, we made it thru the morning and I felt a bit accomplished and, well proud. Anyway. DH works from home, so I decided to go grab some groceries while DS2 was napping & DD5 was having rest time. I came out of Kroger after picking up a few things, and for some reason my clicker wouldn't unlock the trunk, so I had to manually unlock the trunk & the car doors(so I thought)- only to find my DH's keys in the ignition, car running w/ radio & air on full blast. Our car doesn't allow you to power lock/unlock with keys in the ignition, so yeah- it was sitting there running w/ keys and unlocked door for 15 minutes while I was shopping. I should have laughed or cried, but frankly was too tired to do anything but say "thank You God that our car wasn't stolen" and drive home. Guess I'm not superwoman after all...:tongue_smilie:
  9. I have a 25-month old DS who is curious & active, and brings me much joy amidst the challenges. ;) Yet on this eve of starting 'official' school w/ his 5.5 year old sister, I'm nervous. We've had several weeks of school during the summer- more than enough to let me know what to expect. He's not the type to sit quietly at my feet w/ blocks. :tongue_smilie: DD is able to stay pretty focused, despite her brothers antics w/ small appliances and my occasional meltdowns. Can those of you with experience, give me some been there/done that tips & tricks of how to build towards a productive school time w/ a toddler running around? (He is going to mother's morning out 2 mornings a week, starting in September so I know I'll have at least 2 solid days a week), but I need some tips & insight into what to do for the other 3 days. Thank you! Laura
  10. We are starting tomorrow, although it will be modified/lite until DS2 is going to Mothers Day Out 2 mornings a week. ;)
  11. Thanks for the replies. I've looked at How to Teach Art to Children before, and like the idea of adding it to the Usborne books. Hmmmm. I hate online shopping- LOL. I love to look thru books a lot more, but don't have a good local resource.
  12. I've looked at Artistic Pursuits and really like the concept, but am not wild about the fact that DD will be working w/ one 1-2 styles (charcoal etc) per year and seems just a bit beyond her level- probably next year. Any recommendations for something that has history, instruction/how-to as well as a variety of activities? I'll be doing this roughly once per week. THANKS! Laura
  13. :iagree: Another INFJ here and I very much relate to your description. ;) I'm by no means a shy, quiet person- LOL, but I don't draw energy or recharge by being around others. This link http://www.geocities.com/lifexplore/infj.htm was helpful for me way back when.... ;)
  14. Have you looked into renting a house in Sandbridge Beach (part of Virginia Beach)? Try siebertrealty.com or sandbridge.com for more info. I used to live in Virginia Beach, and LOVE the quiet beauty of Sandbridge- its great for families as there isn't the resort drama like main Virginia Beach. I have rented from both companies as well. :) Laura
  15. Ummmm, reality check?!?!?! Alphabet soup from a can, grilled cheese on fresh bread, organic grapes & steamed organic broccoli.
  16. I just saw this.... http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117095
  17. What do you do to plan for the year? Do you have a major pre-planning session to plan the broad strokes for the year, or do you create & adapt as you go along? I'm a planner & a goal oriented person, so I'm feeling the need to get a better handle on timeline, major projects, overall curricula for this year. Obviously, this would be in a broad sense and would be modified/adapted as the year progresses, but I feel scattered like I need to have a better handle on where we're going. What do you do? Laura
  18. August 17, when public school year begins, but mostly so that we're in a bit of a groove before co-op & ds's preschool begin in September.
  19. We've been homeschooling part time (i.e. sporadically) since May, and plan to officially start in less than 3 weeks. ;)
  20. :iagree: Absolutely! It's not magic, its basic math. :D
  21. We have a 2000 w/ 150K+ miles and other than an obscure oxygen intake sensor constantly getting clogged, it hasn't had any major mechanical problems. The doors are not my favorite and occasionally don't automatically slide open, but other than that, its a great vehicle, even 9 years old.
  22. I agree w/ decluttering. :001_smile: Assuming there are no major eye sores in your home, decluttering is the best bang for your buck. When we staged & prepped to sell our home (for sale by owner), we rented a storage unit and got rid of extra furniture, TONS of clutter and it really helped. IT was a drastic step, but made a huge difference having a place other than the garage to put things. We worked for one week straight to prep our home- (DH took off work) and we laid a new floor in the entry way, mildly updated bathroom, neutralized wall colors, designated every room (changed school room back into formal dining room), cleaned out closets so they were 50% full etc. The rooms were still usable, but incredibly sparce. It was a lot of work, but when people walked into my small kitchen (nothing on the countertops etc) and said it felt spacious, I knew we had accomplished our goal. We sold in less than 10 days...this was about 15 months ago. You can do this...you just need motivation. Once you start, you'll be inspired by your own progress. :D
