  1. Just called, and the representative said when the new edition came out they made a new instructor guide so the only option is to repurchase the whole guide.
  2. No, but I probably should. Thanks!
  3. I am borrowing Sonlight D and E from a friend who is building a new house and needed somewhere to store stuff. We completed most of Core D last year and moved into Core E this fall. The problem is her instructor guides are two different ages. Core D used the newer 2 volume Landmark History along with the DK Children’s Encyclopedia of American History which my friend included both books. The Core E guide references the older one volume edition, but she loaned me the second half of the two volume edition. Any ideas on how to generally line the two up? Thanks!
  4. What ever happened to that promise of a paperless society with the advent of computers??? It never happened over here.
  5. Do you have a safe deposit box at a bank? Mine are in a Manila folder (everyone has their own) with SS card, passport, notarized birth certificate. Good luck! I really hate it when I lose stuff. My best advice, sit down and take a break and think about something else for a bit and it might come to you. When I get in a frenzy, I don’t find things well.
  6. Do you know anyone who sells them in a store - I can only find their website. I have a gut feeling that they will be too wide for my foot, but I really want to try a pair. The colors are so cute!
  7. My daughter swims a lot and we get her suits from swim outlet or the shop right behind us. She likes Dolfin for a one piece suit to swim in. Most suits geared at teens are not generally what I am looking to put on my daughter. I do like the Lands End suits from the catalogue, but never have tried them. If swimming in a pool, I like the suits with Lycra instead of spandex...they last so much longer in the chlorine.
  8. I love the Merry Janes from soft star shoes. They are zero drop, soft, and customizable. They are also hand sewn in Oregon.
  9. These look so cute! I actually like the strap shoes in all the different colors, but do you know how they fit. A wide toe box is good, but overall I have a narrow food. I love my dansko’s, but can only wear a couple styles that come in narrows. I don’t like that danskos are now made in China, but I do like that these are made in Poland.
  10. I have had my share of post office issues, but I have been wondering if some of the package delivery issues lately have to do with reduced airline flights these days. FedEx and UPS have their own planes, but USPS sends packages on commercial carriers.
  11. I am sure the teachers are paid somewhat less in Catholic vs. public schools because our PS teachers are unionized. I don’t think they are significantly less paid than than the independent private school teachers. The people I have known who teach at them do so for the tuition discount, not the money. Most Catholic schools are willing to run larger class sizes (thinking non-Covid days here) than public or the exclusive private schools. When I taught religious education pre-children I counted 33 desks in the middle school classroom that I was using. Generally. the parish will subsidize school operations in their budgets.
  12. We all get a pass on foggy brain every now and then 😉 I have no idea exactly where this guy lives (friend of my brother’s) so I looked up the pk-8 parish right by our house. For active members tuition is $6600 with 34% discount for 2nd, 41% discount for 3rd, 56%discount for 4th, 100% discount for 5th. For reference, private, independent elementary schools here are about 25,000-30,000/child so Catholic education is a good value around here if that is what you are looking for as it is subsidized by the parishes.
  13. I had a contractor here a month ago complaining to his assistant that he had received an email about a similar arrangement at his kids’ school. I believe it was $250/week/child to go sit in the same classrooms that they wouldn’t let kids go to school in to do virtual school with an aid supervising. He was pretty hot about it. He said he could pay private school tuition at his local parish for that sort of cash and get a real teacher, in person.
  14. I think if the book is old enough to be in the public domain, then the odds of a top public high school using it as a textbook would fall into the slim to none category. A novel for literature, yes, textbook pretty doubtful. I mean in most cases we would be talking about a textbook from about 1925 or earlier.
  15. 15 months seems like a long time. Never done implants, but my daughter can tell a difference after a week at camp without her retainer at night. When there is room to move your teeth will float around.
  16. If you are planning on staying awhile, could you have it done in Boston? Grandparents to take care of kids while you feel less than great. They can email x-rays. I want to like the person working in my mouth and it doesn’t mean you have to change your regular dentist if it’s the oral surgeon you don’t like.
  17. I never have moved just because, but I really want more than my 1/3 acre. I would love a historic home. My reality is I live in the home I grew up in, it’s paid off, and anything with more land is too far away. I totally understand the desire to move - I have looked at these walls a long time 😉 if you and your husband are on the same page, I would go for it. Mortgage rates are low and at 50 you still have a lot of time in front of you.
  18. Didn’t realize it had changed hands. The first article I found just now and it said Choi is being charged with fraudulent PPP loans that went for personal use.
  19. It was interesting that I saw this post right after leaving my mom’s house. She walked to the door with us and stopped me to ask if I had heard about EEE. I said no and she replied that I really should look up all the stories and I declined-one can only worry about so much as once. We live in one of the affected counties in Michigan and my boys are still camping this weekend in a state park lovingly known to them as Camp Mosquito. So far, there are no human cases identified in Michigan. EEE was a mention last year as well - I assume they sprayed again this year like the article mentioned, but it really hasn’t been a big news story around here. Mosquitoes carry all sorts of nasty things all the time and we take precautions like wearing long pants and long sleeves if out in the evenings and repellent with Deet when out in bad areas. I am pretty all natural in most areas of life, but I do buy the strong stuff for camp outs since mosquitoes 🦟 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ my oldest son. As for the spraying the news article said they are spraying based on number of cases and it sounds pretty safe.
  20. Does your receipt show three different addresses or at least three different zip codes? Does your receipt show three different tracking numbers? It sounds like it does. Any chance that there is another post office branch where you could go for help? Kill them with kindness, tug on their heartstrings, and see if they could issue you a new label to get the package to Dallas or issue you a return? Make sure to emphasize how old and frail the lady in Austin is and if they have any ideas on how to help and how much you need their experience and expertise to correct this situation.
  21. I would have her tape it back up if the address is still readable and mark on the outside delivered to the wrong address and leave it for the mailman. I would also file for insurance which is going to force them to try to track down the package. It can take a bit sometimes so if the package shows up in Dallas you can drop the claim.
  22. Six online classes is a lot especially for that age. I would take the guide, put it on the shelf, and ignore it. Maybe do some poetry over the summer. If she manages all those classes, I would count it as a very good, very full year.
  23. With 6 online classes what is left of the core that she isn’t completing?
  24. Another thing to look into is whether the college has any exchange programs for students of employees. They would get the benefits of child of employee discounts with the additional choice of schools. My cousin’s daughter was able to take advantage of this benefit.
