Does anyone still use this curriculum? Is it open and go? Any recent reviews? Most of the information I can find on it is older.

I really like ULAT Spanish and find it effective, but like almost all programs, you can't give it to a normal kid and expect it to "work magic."
For us, it was most effective when we used it together. Otherwise I found that my kids would go through the motions without really engaging. Also, I found that sometimes a kid would get stuck and frustrated and need me to make digital flashcards and then just let them go on.
We worked based on the clock (30 minutes per session) and the kids kept spreadsheets with where to start the next time. At some point, adding in a written grammar book helps. Also, there is no cultural component, so you should probably add that. (Many school programs go to the other extreme, often giving tons of culture without much language).
My 14-year-old daughter was able to use The ULAT well on her own because she was very motivated. I worked with her until she said my lack of time was causing her to go too slowly, after which she made great progress on her own. This year, my 13-year-old worked on her own got frustrated. In retrospect, I should have worked with her until she got annoyed by me. 🙂 My perfectionistic son (aged 10) cried when I tried to do the ULAT with him. We're doing a simpler program together currently and I hope to work with him through the ULAT once he can be more gentle with himself not knowing everything.

Thank you! That was very helpful! What did you find to use with your 10 year old?

Does anyone have any reviews on the ULAT Spanish? Is it effective? Do you as the parent have to help or is it independent? What ages would you recommend to use it for? And how do you scedule it out? I checked the free lessons and it looks like the lesson length various.

Does anyone have a favorite Spanish curriculum that your children can do independently and you have found to be effective? My children are 2nd and 4th grade and 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. I am fine with the older ones doing something different than the younger grades.

Does anyone still use Family Time Fitness? I can't seem to find any recent reviews on it. Or are there other similar programs you would recommend for Physical Education?

I'm looking for some resources for books arranged in order of historical topics. Something like All through the Ages. Are there any other options either online or in a book?

We are doing Mystery Science this year and loving it. Is there any curriculum similar when we've done all their lessons? We love the video lessons and how it is played out step by step.

I love the looks of Sonlight with the big pile of read alouds, but I want to do a chronological study of history with my 4th, 5th and 6th grader. Any ideas of for a curriculum like Sonlight but chronological?

Oh, you can definitely just buy the guides and CD's online at the CC bookstore without joining an in person group. But it's really a super overpriced guide for a bunch of memory lists and songs though. You can look for used versions on ebay and other sites. There are CC apps too with the songs, by cycle if you want those instead. They change the editions every couple of years to force the active CC'ers into having to rebuy the guides, so you can typically find them used pretty easily (although CC will try and shame users out of selling their guides as well as buying used.)
You might check out Claritas as well as a similar set up. https://www.claritas-publishing.com/products
They make similar and aren't much cheaper, but they aren't an MLM, so if that matters to you they might be a better company to purchase from than CC.
What exactly do you want them to memorize? History Facts? Poems? Scripture? Math facts? There are all sorts of Memory Work lists you can find online for free and save the $99 CC wants for the newest guide.........
Thanks for the ideas! I'll check those out. As to the type of memory work-just in general what they should memorize from the different subjects such as math, history dates/facts, spelling rules, etc. All in one easy resource that we can do as a family. We do scripture, hymns, and poems already.

Are there any resources for memory work that are similar to Classical Conversations? We dont live near a group and if I understand correctly you cant just by it?

I'm looking for a writing curriculum for my 3rd, 4th, and 5th grader. I think IEW looks like a good fit as they dont know how to even begin putting words on the paper when I ask them for creative writing. But I would prefer something much simpler to use and preferably more independent. Any ideas?

We've been using xtra math for a few years now. Does anyone have an idea for an alternative that would be more fun?

I am looking for options for preplanned morning time plans. Thank you!

Thanks for all of the advice. We are coming from Righstart and All About Spelling. I'm probably looking too much in the opposite direction now, but I have a kindergartener starting next year who will need hands on.

I am looking for independent curriculum for math, language arts, and Bible for these grades. History and science will be done as a family or coop. Something that I dont have to teach much or very little. More supervise and answer questions if needed. Teaching Textbooks was one option for math. Also they need to be offline options as we don't have the best internet service. Any ideas to add to my list?

I am looking for a geophraphy program that uses maps etc for teaching US geography for grades 1,2 and 3. Would one of these be better for this age group? Or would you suggest another curriculum? More for the fun of learning where each state is and geographical features than the state bords etc.

We plan to use American history for young students 2 this year. Does anyone have any activities or resources they liked to use with it?

My son is halfway through Level C. Due to expecting a new baby and having multiple younger children we would like to switch to something more independent at least for the first half of the school year- and possibly long term. Any ideas what has worked for others?
